People, if you have a problem with this video, then don't watch it. I really hate to see people criticize a person who is making classical music sound modern and making sound a lot more interesting to the younger crowd. Listen, I have listened to both the original and this version by Maksim, and I have to say, both of them have an equivalent amount of talent. In my opinion, Chopin and may other famous composers would be proud that their music attracted such a young man who has such a passion...

what a bunch of dumb idoits. any person can spit out a classic with enough practice but this guy puts his creative touch on old music and you're upset? This guy is good
@mexdrumpiano Creative what? What on earth is creative about this? What kind of ears do you have? He's gone and turned a great piece of music into rubbishy muzak :(
@lewars1912 Seriously, are you that ignorant that you think Maksim arranged this? He performs the arrangements he gets told to perform and gets paid. So lets wake up and blame the "team" that arranged the piece, yeah? If you don't like it go else where.
@Mattyb2001uk No, I don't think I'm ignorant, lol. I don't really care who arranged it. It's still hellish, and thank you but I won't be going anywhere. Perhaps you should go somewhere. Take a running jump.
@lewars1912 the definition of creative is to be able to create and what he has done is takena good piece of music and created an arrangement with a different style. Your problem is that you are one of those people who hate change and wants everything to stay exactly the same forever and if anything changes, your upset and it isn't as good. "He who rejects change is the architect of decay.
@mexdrumpiano You said that I have a problem in that I "hate change." I'm all for change. I certainly wouldn't describe the bastardisation of great music as "change" and I can't imagine anyone who is really familiar with Chopin's beautiful compositions could possibly enjoy this, however this is just my personal opinion. Live and let live.
Is the drum compose for performance to let Maksim to keep in tempo? Because it sounds like a little bit too "plain"......but this is very inspiring though :P
We, the real pianist love chopin but maksim is great piano player when you learn to hear music you can appreciate all kinds of music so Maksim is great
Look, as music is a living and changing form of art, there's nothing wrong with attempting to update it...but this sounds like a dorky, overdone rock opera. Mrvica doesn't even play the original bass, which is the whole purpose of the etude; overall, a failed attempt. Give me Pollini in a suit playing the original Etude any day. And don't think classical music has died out in the younger generation. I'm fifteen and I'm fine with classical music only being understood by those who understand it.
for me is interesting this new form of representation maybe that he made for a reason: actually the people forgot the classical music and he made Electronic etude for capture more interest of the public
@Mattyb2001uk i think its kinda cool but realy its cheasy.. you cant argue it isnt. This is barely an orchestral.... i could do this with my synthisizer. But If you want to get the true perspective of this song and what it means, you should listen to the solo, and perhaps read the history on this song. this song shouldn't be so upbeat xD
@rabidgunfight I have listened to the solo, I play it. No "piece" should be limited to its original form. It's music, no limits and no bounderies. People need to wake up and move on. I love the original, it's my favourite but I think people should add beats, and more instrument, even add vocals if they want. If people don't like it then fair enough, no one's asking them to listen...
I really don't want to get involved in a debate, but can I just say that what you're fighting about is completely stupid? Music is music, beautiful, happy, sad, angry, violent, hopeful, magical music. Anyone ever tell you all that Music is Life? It can be anything that it wants to be, and if you don't like it, that's your problem. Don't tell someone that what their heart inspires them to create is wrong; that's just one more form of oppression that this world doesn't need.
In the end it is the rigidity of the tempo that ruins it. It reminds me of the old hooked on classics thing. It's not that I am anti.I have often thought we could do with some showmanship from the pianists. This is still not quite what I had in mind though.
The problem is Chopin is Mr. Piano. Adding things into Chopin is a bit much.
I dont think Frederick is dancing the night away. An original composition might say something.

@Mattyb2001uk Bravo! I love it. This guy clearly has no idea how Maksim gets the pieces he performs. Ever heard of Tonci Huljic, tiwi21? Fucking idiot.
Hell, this is a best massacre ever ! I could not even have thought about this possible. Making some modern piece from some classical stuff, yeah why not, some are interesting. But come on... disco-chopin ?! The only missing thing is a singer screaming random stuff in the middle.
To all my compatriots, please could you make me a pleasure and shut up! I`m Pole like Chopin and I think, that any method is good in order to know clasical music. Even if orginal has a new arrangement, like here. By the way, the performance of Maxim is really good and I like it. Of course I prefer orginal, but I must to say, that this young man is talented!
Art is in its creator's control only until he releases it to the world. Untold thousands of pianists have played this piece in the pure, unadorned classical sense, and keyboardists from all genres have learned on Chopin and all the classical composers. Nearly 100,000 people have listened to this clip and Maksim has earned, through his talent and determination, the right to tour internationally to play before sold-out houses. This performance is legitimate, regardless what Chopin would think.
tiwi21 the core or the basic of the music is still there... he didnt change any notes in it!!!!!!! its just modernization of the music.... u dumbasss!!!
The issue with all of the Maksim things I've heard has been tempo - he's so rigid about it, and romantic piano music doesn't work that way!
The one classical composer I've heard transcribed very effectively into rock or jazz with any consistency has been Bach, and that's because his music is all in the notes, and doesn't rely on dynamics or tempo. A few Shostakovich pieces might work well also, though... But yeah, the Romantics? Don't even try. Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff all need room.
It's a pretty good indication that the arrangement is terrible when one's first instinct is to burst out laughing at how cheesy it is, then spend the rest of the video wondering who did the crazy piano set design. The leather wrist cuff was a nice touch though.
Not bad, it was well played. But making it contemporary really took the agony out of it. This piece is supposed to be tragic and roiling with emotion. By making it "exciting" he robbed it of it's pain.
@CheekyVimto08 Well, and there I think is the problem conceptually and musically. The thing rolls forward furiously and almost breaks its neck at speed, played in the traditional way -- the pop backbeat has put a terrible harness on it and constrained it to having the strings trying to replace the lost emotional and musical forward drive.
It is interesting, and dance-able, and it doesn't sound awful at all -- it just takes the raging heart out of it.
with regard to previous comments on how pop/rock and classical music should never be mixed. I do agree (with instrumental music anyway)... But lets not forget the astounding collaboration Monserrat Caballé (one of the greatest opera stars) had with Freddie Mercury (another epic voice) with "Barcelona". Check it out..
I don't think there's anything wrong with "improvisation"---(Liszt Rhapsody 2 etc..) and I'm at the same time a Chopin fan/purist. If one wants to alter a piece of music, that's fine, but this is NOT the same music anymore. This is NOT the revolutionary Etude (improved) it is now another piece of music altogether. If you like it, fine...but it is NO LONGER CHOPIN. Now it's just techo mix club music or something. No power or soul anymore. No one can speak for Chopin, but this is not him.
What is this abomination? They've ruined this étude. It sounds like it belongs in a James Bond movie. This is horrible. It sounds completely commercialized.
Get over it, move on, times change etc. So we leave the etude how it is, then how many younger people will ever know the name "Chopin"? Schools certainly do educate classical music do they?
I'm not against progress or modernization of music. This is just plain butchery. It doesn't even sound remotely good. Like I said, the strings make it sound utterly tacky.
Are you implying that the work of great composers won't carry on unless they're given a modern spin and passed down? That's absurd.
It's not absurd, it's true. The younger generation are not interested in classical music, its all pop, rock, rap etc. Although Maksim plays a crossover he also does classical as well. If I hadn't heard Maksim play then I would've never heard of the great composers that lived many years ago.
@Mattyb2001uk - I disagree entirely. "chavs" will listen to this, or the authentic version and will think it's boring crap. Especially teenagers. That's not to say this isn't good. I'm mainly a rock fan, but listen to a varied selection of other music, rap being one of them. I would however say, without some basic music knowledge and appreciation, classical music will never be popular with the youth culture whether it has been "popped" up like this, or played authentically. Thx for posting this.
What's the point of trying to get idiots who only like rock/pop/rap etc. to care for classical music if you have to destroy classical music to fit their pallet? You defeat your own purpose.
OK, why are people "Idiots" if they listen to rock/pop/rap?. It's not about making them "care", more about appreciation and it's not to "fit their pallet" it's to grab their attention.
@Mattyb2001uk Classical music in its current form will be around long after you and I are both dead and buried. It needs nothing but real talent. You seem to assume that classical music will simply die because it hasn't been gizmo-ized.
Ever see a BBC proms? Noted how full it is and how many youth orchestras there are? Not saying that some people might benefit, but we don't all need this special effect. You should give younger people more credit.
@linkfan69 its not that... its the fact that most people who watch this are classical music enjoyers or pianists them selves... seeing this makes them feel slightly sick as pop music and classical music should not be integrated into each other...
lol that was funny...and thats how this makes you feel. I am not sure about this pop mix. I don't like it. It takes the suspense of the piano out keeping it all on beat.
mi respects to this guy i am an opera singer well i study that i am rock singer any way i just foun about this guy and i like his arregment to the clasikal music and he play so fuking a,asing i learn to play piano becouse it was esyer for me to get in tones but any way never gona play like this guy
For all the people who are hating...we all agree that the original is great but once you''ve heard a piece long enough it gets old. When musicians like Maksim Mrvica change things up a bit you fall in love with the piece all over again.
Come on, Maksim is a genius! How could you people say nasty things on a man so gifted as him? He is the man!! Play on, Maksim! And thank you very much.
Forget Chopin for a moment...This sounds great.. awesome!!!!
Back to real life....Sadly for Maksim..It was composed by one of the greatest composers ever... It´s interesting when somebody plays new versions of classical music. That´s all. INTERESTING. This piece was composed for piano.... Enjoy original version. Nothing better than that!!!
My, Chopin was certainly ahead of his time! Do you think he's upset because he gave us "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows", "Til The End Of Time", and "Sincerely Yours"? Why should he mind a "techno" version of the Revolutionary Etude? Might even get some people to listen to the original. Maksim is a well trained classical pianist and can play the original classics beautifully - just watch his left hand float so easily over the keys from 1:38 on. Fantastic!! Interesting new version of a favorite.
First off ... How old was Chopin when he composed this? and then, how long did he and every one whom came after take to perfect it . with all respects cut Maksum a little slack stop being so bitter
...he's not playing the left hand parts. the left hand parts are what makes this piece hard, seeing what he does, any 12-13 year olds can do it too. however what makes this piece good is the rest of the orchestra, but the piano is not really challenging.
What's the problem with him? If chopin lives at this time he probbably make the music like this... we are in 21 st century please. I like his style. If you don't like, nobody forces you listening
YOu know music like this was made for popularity, not a bad idea. But If you are much more serious , you should listen real classical artists. He is not. He is a talented young boy who wants to be famous, and wants to make classical music more receptible for everyone who doesnt understand and adore the true c. music. thats all. he is handsome and young . it goes well:) but he isnt serious enough.
(my personal opinion is that it feels like a classical disco:D not badxd) good luck!
the originality in this special rendition, for the lack of a better word, is ingenious and enjoyable.
Whilst studying the effects of technology on music (summing it up into a nutshell) and taking an original song and then adding technological influences to it at university, this piece comes as an excellent example of ingenutiy based on a song that is more than a couple of centuries old.
I look foward to finding more videos like this and his great innovations in music. Great catch Matty!!!!!!
Indeed he's a good pianist....but, like all the pianists of our Time... noone can create Operas like Chopin and the old pianists did.... we can just try to learn and maybe modify those Melodies.
CONGRATULATE CHOPIN on the original, but not on this. If you have to do THIS to make great music appeal to the [stupid] general public then my answer is Don't do it at all. Poor chopin.

Rachmanfan4life 1 year ago 3
What is this abomination? They've ruined this étude. It sounds like it belongs in a James Bond movie. This is horrible. It sounds completely commercialized.
OriginalBasaliskos 1 year ago 37
Get over it, move on, times change etc. So we leave the etude how it is, then how many younger people will ever know the name "Chopin"? Schools certainly do educate classical music do they?
Mattyb2001uk 1 year ago
I'm not against progress or modernization of music. This is just plain butchery. It doesn't even sound remotely good. Like I said, the strings make it sound utterly tacky.
Are you implying that the work of great composers won't carry on unless they're given a modern spin and passed down? That's absurd.
OriginalBasaliskos 1 year ago
It's not absurd, it's true. The younger generation are not interested in classical music, its all pop, rock, rap etc. Although Maksim plays a crossover he also does classical as well. If I hadn't heard Maksim play then I would've never heard of the great composers that lived many years ago.
Mattyb2001uk 1 year ago
@Mattyb2001uk - I disagree entirely. "chavs" will listen to this, or the authentic version and will think it's boring crap. Especially teenagers. That's not to say this isn't good. I'm mainly a rock fan, but listen to a varied selection of other music, rap being one of them. I would however say, without some basic music knowledge and appreciation, classical music will never be popular with the youth culture whether it has been "popped" up like this, or played authentically. Thx for posting this.
Hardysamnin 1 year ago
@Mattyb2001uk no it is absurd to imply that the younger generation dosnt like calsical music there are many who love classical music
Jonweb009 1 year ago
@Jonweb009 And so many more that don't.
Mattyb2001uk 1 year ago
What's the point of trying to get idiots who only like rock/pop/rap etc. to care for classical music if you have to destroy classical music to fit their pallet? You defeat your own purpose.
Grimgerde 1 year ago
OK, why are people "Idiots" if they listen to rock/pop/rap?. It's not about making them "care", more about appreciation and it's not to "fit their pallet" it's to grab their attention.
Mattyb2001uk 1 year ago 3
@Mattyb2001uk Classical music in its current form will be around long after you and I are both dead and buried. It needs nothing but real talent. You seem to assume that classical music will simply die because it hasn't been gizmo-ized.
Ever see a BBC proms? Noted how full it is and how many youth orchestras there are? Not saying that some people might benefit, but we don't all need this special effect. You should give younger people more credit.

Mattyb2001uk 2 years ago
@linkfan69 its not that... its the fact that most people who watch this are classical music enjoyers or pianists them selves... seeing this makes them feel slightly sick as pop music and classical music should not be integrated into each other...

people who really loves music knows that no matter how great a musician is there is always room for improvement.
If you really loves music you'll also know that you can do almost eveyrthing to make music sounds good.
If you hate this then you dont really love music. you just want people to look at you as if you love music.
people who really love music wont be fanatic!!

For all the people who are hating...we all agree that the original is great but once you''ve heard a piece long enough it gets old. When musicians like Maksim Mrvica change things up a bit you fall in love with the piece all over again.

tato4527 2 years ago
My, Chopin was certainly ahead of his time! Do you think he's upset because he gave us "I'm Always Chasing Rainbows", "Til The End Of Time", and "Sincerely Yours"? Why should he mind a "techno" version of the Revolutionary Etude? Might even get some people to listen to the original. Maksim is a well trained classical pianist and can play the original classics beautifully - just watch his left hand float so easily over the keys from 1:38 on. Fantastic!! Interesting new version of a favorite.

Oh wait. He starts playing the left hand part like half way through. Good stuff.
acamam 2 years ago
...he's not playing the left hand parts. the left hand parts are what makes this piece hard, seeing what he does, any 12-13 year olds can do it too. however what makes this piece good is the rest of the orchestra, but the piano is not really challenging.

My admiration for Chopin and for anyone who can make his works enjoyable according to Chopin's time and for the actual and future generations
Isn' t it wonderful to be able to savor life in different ways ?

Indeed he's a good pianist....but, like all the pianists of our Time... noone can create Operas like Chopin and the old pianists did.... we can just try to learn and maybe modify those Melodies.

jdurr4, it's called making the song appeal to others. I'm 15 and I love it due to myself being bought up in this generation of pop/disco.
I love the mix and I think the composer of this alteration should be congratulated.

CONGRATULATE CHOPIN on the original, but not on this. If you have to do THIS to make great music appeal to the [stupid] general public then my answer is Don't do it at all. Poor chopin.
