I dont oppose feeding squirrels at a park in a city. Next time try to feed them something healthy. All the salt on those pretzels is horrible for the little guys. Those poor things probably live off of junk food only. That is why they are so fat. There are so many of them because they don't have to work for their food. Getting it for free from people causes an increase in births and a decrease in deaths from starvation. Being in a park, they also don't have any natural preditors or competitors.

Where was this? What state, city or highway was this truck stop located at? I got one of these ground squirrels as a baby because the mom abandoned it in my neighbors front yard down the street from me. And it is now an adult and tame for me, but I still want to set it free. So it can be where it belongs. So this looks like an okay place, he will have a steady supply of food, people won't think he's rabied by running up to them, and he'll have tons of company.

These little guys are plump and well fed for a reason, they know that humans=food. So they are nice and friendly. On my college campus the squirrels come when you call them and love treats like granola, cereal etc and will come right up to you and take it out of your hand they have no fear of humans because humans have never been a threat to them and there are no dogs on campus.

I moved into a new place where the previous tenant apparently fed the little buggers on the front walk just outside the door. After I was there for a couple of days Alpha Squirrel came up to the front door and barked at me for being slow with the snacks.

You aren't suppous to feed squirrels pretzels. They will die from them and have health issues. You are never suppous to feed any type of animal human food anyway. For squirrels to be healthy, they should only be eating nuts and some fruits.

You can still be this close to them without giving them human foods. Next time, try giving them nuts or fruits if you don't want to see all animal life go extict because of human carelessnes.
