I think universal pulse is amazing although I do agree about the Chad thing. I personally think they should straight up self produce the next record I really wanna hear what that would sound like and just get saint in there to record them cause his mixes were pretty damn good.
I am not so sure that this has to do with the producer as much as it does 311 getting older and evolving. I am a drummer and I "understand" what you are saying about Chad, but if you really pay attention his playing is not drastically different, nor is 311's as a whole. Nick, P-Nut, and SA are either all married or have a kid. All the members of 311 are in their 40's if I am not mistaken. I can totally relate to what you are feeling in this post, but I think it is more just about 311 evolving
@davis311c I know this, but Ron Saint definitely has an influence on the sound of the record. Listen to the differences in Music through DTOM, and tell me that the Saint produced albums don't have the best sonic qualities. And I disagree about Chad not changing... UP was very simplistic...
@davis311c fair point....however i refuse to refer to the change in there sound as an evolution...more like a regression....chads playing had def lost some of that signature sharpness in my opinion......whatever the explanation something def needs to change....time to get rid of martha stuarttt uhhh i meen bob rock ......:P
Nick rarely replys but pnut always replys Soundsystem I love because Freeze Time, Come Oringnal, large in the Margin, Flowing, Mindspin, and Livin and Rockin best songs
soundsystem, from chaos, uplifter, and universal pulse are my favorite. Rock did a good job on sound on the album IMO, but had too much writing influence, he simplified a band that was known for their amazing musicianship. I would like to see Saint produce and scotch mix the album. I would also like to see 311 just self produce and mix their own record in the future too. Mahoney said himself next album will feature long instrumental breaks.
I will say this I think they need Rick Rubin. I think the band and this amazing producer would make the best 311 album to date. I am still pissed about 8 tracks but hey what can you do . If you didn't go everyone missed an awesome show at Red Rocks in Denver. Atlanta rocked also. Sorry I missed Riverbend this year how was it JP..
@SAVEOURREPUBLIC2 Riverbend was slightly disappointing. We got some good stuff (Rubadub, Full Ride, Plain) but we also had far too many singles. All in all, it was a good time though. :)
I wrote this on FB but ill copy it here for shits n gigs! I don't think Ron produced Soundsystem..I think it was Hugh Padgham, but i could be wrong....I think Ron Should come back because well, for example.. 311's first two albums sold under 100,000 copies.. then Ron comes along and produces Blue..which would be a multi-platinum selling millions. I also read in an article somewhere that Saint really liked 311 because of their unique sound and different mix of styles.. Maybe he will come back :D
I do think Eddy Offord Is a better Producer though cause he did the first 2 albums and those were 5/5 albums 3rd album to me is 4.8/5 to me and transistor (my favorite album) -from chaos were good. the rest has like 1 or 2 songs that are classics to me :)
I did actually sit through this boring video lol hey he said it
But seriously no offense to 311 at all by any means but BOB ROCK ruins sound
He's crap he's just a name
Just my opinion
