The hard drives may stay cool enough since they are not stacked but are separate and air can flow over them. I am looking forward to a review of how well the stack of 8 HDDs work with the Silverstone Temjim TJ04-e temperature wise.
Nice review. It appears that one could fill 4 of the 6 5.25 drive bays and be able to put the two 120mm fans inside and be able to pull in enough air to cool at least a Corsair H60 with one of the two 120mm fans.
Looking forward to your review of the Silverstone Temjin TJ04-e window. I am very interested in that case. Would like to install 5 3.5 inch HDDs and 3 SSDs in the front.
I just got one of this and its really awesome cable management is sweet very neat layout and very spacious i just love it by the way mine is gray stripe and its cool.
if i removed only 1 of the bottom fans, could i still use a corsair h80? Probably a dumb question but I like this case but I dont like air cpu coolers. sure they work but they look terrible. lol in my opinion.
@TheExprima Nope this case is the RV03W-B, totally different case/model number, plus I think the -BA ones are OEM which is why there not featured on the site.
@TimeToLiveCustoms the one u reviewed is the RV03B-W and the one @TheExprima is talking about is the RV03B-WA right? :) (either way awesome review as allways! :)
I like how the stress of the graphics card's weight is now held from the top, with the weight force downwards, which means that compared to a laterally mounted card, there is little to no stress on the pci-e pins. With the trend moving to bigger and heavier graphics cards, this is definitely a plus, even though this isn't a really a big issue most of the time.
I wonder if the Corsair H100 would fit into that case. It seems, that it might fit into the 5.25" drive bay to 3.5" drive bay adapters. There are 2x 120mm fans there, so it it aligns, it might just fit perfectly with one set of push fans. The motherboard tray may be very close though.
If you then turn the H100 so that the nozzles are at the bottom of the case, you might even fit an optical drive at the top. Could you confirm, if such a thing was possible without modding the case?
@TOBORtheMighty always makes me laugh when people say stuff like that. Especially as I dont and never have smoked in my life :p even normal stuff lols
I honestly don't get this case. It seems to be much too complicated compared to "traditional" setup cases. It seems to be built this ways just for the sake of being different. I don't see any advantages to this internal setup. Innovative? Hell yes! But i don't see any efficiency and sleekness. The fact that the HDD's are cooler is simply amazing considering the "mess" that is back there.
@spasmele Actually its very very efficent because hot air moves up, when you suck air from bottom you get cooler air inside the case then it starts getting hotter and goes out from the top of the case. You can say "I can install fans at the bottom of my normal atx case" but in normal atx cases air coming from the bottom first hits the graphics card then CPU, in this case both GPU and CPU gets the fresh air at the same time and quality which creates an excellent efficiency
@spasmele this case is perfect for an air-based cooling system, because the whole idea is that it violently pushes air upwards. Might not sound so brilliant, but if you consider that hot air rises, then you realise that its quite smart to have an upward air flow rather than a traditional, from front to back air flow, which usually ends up with hot air pockets in the top corners of the case.
@k0pix i think that they are very different cases, and you should choose based on your needs. However, the RV03 seems cheaper, but its a lot more fiddly and a little wierder.
I have had this for a few days now and I am loving this case and very good build quality and it has some amazing cooling. In matter of minutes it has cooled the entire case down after doing benching.
What camera are you using? I have recently beem begining to think that your videos have really bad quality and are pretty blurry, even in 1080P. Is it your cam's fault, Youtube's fault or has my eyesight gone bad?
I love this case, but i wonder if new corsair h100 wil fit into it ? maybe on the fan mounts on the front where you can put 2x120mm, but what about optical drive ? Or maybe on the botom on the intake fans ?
i just got this case very impress with the nh-d14 temp of cpu wont go above 25c loaded. only 1 downfall of this case is the amount of screws i had to take off. tip for those ppl who want raven rv03 with nh-d14 make sure u put you dvdrom first.
That's a very unique case. The gold stripes are a little too much for me. But, the strips can be removed and painted to a color that you prefer. Nice review Tom!!
Too much plastic, hideous colors, and why are we still getting chassis' with so many drive bays? How Silverstone goes from making the FT01, FT02 (which I personally use), and Raven cases to this is beyond me.
Quick Idea. They could mount optical drives in the back of the case like they did with the hard drives (Might look kind of odd at first). So this would work for people who don't use the 5.25" bays (TTL) and it would also free up some space in the motherboard portion of the case so it could be used for other items.
what about the back(in this case top) panel??? as far as i could see, you need to have the top plastic thing off in order to have all the cables plugged in (DVI, ethernet, USBs, etc)
@PremchandNL I dont even think it has looks going for it. just cheap really. Strange HD mounting, strange PSU placement, weird side vents, and I think its honestly really ugly.
@PremchandNL OKey, so in my opinion it's the best air cooled case in market right now, for me its better cuz its not that long like RV02 does have USB3 in a front, U can mount more fans if U would like to (RV02 just 4, RV03 i have all optional, all 10:))8x cooler master stickle flow GReen and 2x 120mm Air Penetrator Green.The window its on proper side(left). U can do really goood cable managment there:)More space for long GPU like 6990.
Alright then, i think I'm going to buy the RV03 saves me like 60 euro as well :D. Did you know that you can buy a USB 3.0 upgrade kit for the RV02 for 20 euro (ex. VAT)directly from Silverstone. so thats not a real issue(well it will cost you more) and a 6990 can also (just) fit in the RV02
Great vid. I agree 100% ( not that it matters) about the awards. Would take a long time to get used to the placement of the HD's, but as long as it works, it works.
Retraction...I have to admit this case has grown on me in a very short time. I've watched some other reviews that go thru the build process and some things have been cleared up. My only concern is the power supply and the drive access bezels. If you have a bay device installed you cant have a bezel on it.
nice review as always. I personally don't like the case though and would not buy it for the following reasons. Only USB-3 and audio/mic jacks = bad. Also limited to standard sise power supplies =bad. From the looks of that first HDD mounting...it looks like you would have to gut the case to get at those screws? If thats the way it's mounted = horrible idea
Whould you be interested to see mig "pimped" summer project where i have used some of your mentions in the video? i personally think it's amazing. Still not 100% ready though, but almost
Heat rises in all cases and if this design gave better passive temps then sure, the design is just looking for a problem to solve imo and I just don't see it. Each to their own though. I would have thought more effort into acleaner smoother air flow path was better time spent. Just me I suppose, a bit to conservative im my likes :)
Do think I have seen a more messy, diff for diff sake case ... can't see ANY redeeming features. It just such a puzzle as to why and who would buy it. ???
Hey tom chaney from your forums here i was wondering if a ax1200 psu would fit?, It says fits 180mm or something like that pus and the ax1200 is only 5mm more.... Could you try it and see if the cables are just bent at the back or what. Thank you will tell me wether i want this or another way way way more expensive case. :)
hmmm..... seeing that you have 35mm above the fans, you might be able to fit at least a 30mm radiator with brackets that come with the RV02. i was able to fit a 30mm radiator with a standard 101/2" gpu in the RV02. a radiator with low fin density would work best with the gaps between the fans and radiator when you use the brackets. my results were very fair temps with a cpu gpu loop. raven cases have very good air flow!
I would get it but I don't like the power supply positioning, I can't fit the Corsair AX1200 in it. I am gonna go with the FT-02, price isn't an issue.
You are better off with the FT02 anyway. The build quality is so much higher and the cooling is pretty much the same seeing as the FT02 has 3X180mm AP fans instead of just 2........Not to mention it allows a higher wattahe (larger) PSU to be installed without issue.
Have a look at the RV02 as well, its basically the same as the FT02 but than the exterior is made out of mostly plastic.
He said timeline 2:39 and quote" he never been the one for cooling back of motherboards? Not sure if he meant that in a good way or bad but that is a good option because there is another of heat being stored in the back of motherboards believe it or not.. Next time you should say things like that TLC..because this Raven 03 was feedback from current or customer that have this case that would have like that feature.
Not a fan of the styling, but can't disagree with the innovation award. Too much plastic, and the plexi window would look better on the other side of the panel IMO.
I would buy or look for other PC cases/brands - but the only thing I want is the '90 degree design'. And only Silverstone does that. In a good way. (high quality and damn good functionality)
First, the hardware looks better on it, you can look at your graphics cards, second the warm air raises up through the graphics cards and there is pretty much 100% airflow throughout and third, I think it's MUCH better to connect monitors etc to it.
@TheTerriblePuddle y know that he said that the corsair has shitty cooling (mostly all cases) but yeah might be that one , will try to get my hands on the raven 2 tiny love the white :D dont like this one.
For me it's worth every penny and so innovative (done in the right way), all I think it need is rubber grommets and a little more space behind the motherboard tray for cables :)
@adrianchen19888 RV 02 looks better, I agree. The 03 is too much plastic looking.
More practical?...I can't tell. Looks like the back of the mainboard now has more room. I didn't really look into details but I'm happy with what the 02 has to offer.
I love my Raven RV02-E. I think they tried to take an amazingly cool running case and make it run cooler. I think it ended up being overdone and complicated. Although I do like the magnetic filters on the bottom!
The hard drives may stay cool enough since they are not stacked but are separate and air can flow over them. I am looking forward to a review of how well the stack of 8 HDDs work with the Silverstone Temjim TJ04-e temperature wise.

I would get it but I don't like the power supply positioning, I can't fit the Corsair AX1200 in it. I am gonna go with the FT-02, price isn't an issue.
Rinx7 7 months ago
@Rinx7

Great review as always Tom :)
Really don't like the RV03 layout or the gold accents, imo the RV02 has a far better layout, but it is a fantastic price.

I like this case too but aesthetically the window bothers me a bit with the plastic on the outside of the metal. 3:35
Blue79 7 months ago
would you have his over a SilverStone FT02R?
If money was no option for air cooling
WookieWoolie 7 months ago
@WookieWoolie
The FT02 has 3X180mm AP fans, and a higher degree of over-all build quality. However, you might get lower temps with the RV03.
TheIrredeemable 7 months ago
@TheIrredeemable Bang for buck this looks good but have am slowly saving up for the FT02 and not sure it is worth the extra.
WookieWoolie 7 months ago
Not a fan of the styling, but can't disagree with the innovation award. Too much plastic, and the plexi window would look better on the other side of the panel IMO.

@holodoc79 i srsly doubt that

I like my rv2 better lol
Thathard 7 months ago
@Thathard
Indeed, the RV02 is the better case......But the FT02 is better than both......But the TJ11 is the king all.

I really like this case :D

According to Silverstone, there is an upgraded version of the FT02 with USB 3.0 comming in September.

I must admit, not a massive fan of this case, Great review but just not my cup of tea, to much going on and a bit plasticy looking. :\

This case would look nice with a UD7.

what the difference between the raven 3 on scan - got three different options - and does the cooling seem more efficent with this case

I already wanted to buy the Raven RV03, and now that Tom has made a review... I want it even more!!! Thanks Tom, awesome review.

TTL has been pumping out a lot of videos recently, and I love it :D
nobodypersonsomeone 7 months ago
I would buy or look for other PC cases/brands - but the only thing I want is the '90 degree design'. And only Silverstone does that. In a good way. (high quality and damn good functionality)
First, the hardware looks better on it, you can look at your graphics cards, second the warm air raises up through the graphics cards and there is pretty much 100% airflow throughout and third, I think it's MUCH better to connect monitors etc to it.

TheTerriblePuddle 7 months ago
@TheTerriblePuddle y know that he said that the corsair has shitty cooling (mostly all cases) but yeah might be that one , will try to get my hands on the raven 2 tiny love the white :D dont like this one.
TheMRamstaff 7 months ago
@TheMRamstaff I own a black FT02.
For me it's worth every penny and so innovative (done in the right way), all I think it need is rubber grommets and a little more space behind the motherboard tray for cables :)

@TheTerriblePuddle
Couldnt agree more!

My Raven RV 02 looks far better and way more practical than the RV03...
adrianchen19888 7 months ago
@adrianchen19888 RV 02 looks better, I agree. The 03 is too much plastic looking.
More practical?...I can't tell. Looks like the back of the mainboard now has more room. I didn't really look into details but I'm happy with what the 02 has to offer.

I want Fractal Design to build a 90 Degree Mounting Case :'(
NLRoadKill 7 months ago
I love my Raven RV02-E. I think they tried to take an amazingly cool running case and make it run cooler. I think it ended up being overdone and complicated. Although I do like the magnetic filters on the bottom!
