I think I can answer your question about Uthman. He was not really a tyrant, he was simply a weak Caliph. The problem is that he put his own relatives into powerful posts, and this included REALLY evil people like Mu'awiya, Marwan (who had been condemned by Rasoolullah, SAW) and Hakam bin Aas, Mughira, etc.
Uthman pretty much let his corrupt relatives do as they pleased - murder, torture, oppressing non-Arabs, overtax the people, and they made a lot of enemies, who killed Uthman.
