  • is this available on cd?

  • SIMPLY awesome. i regret never having the chance to listen to them alive.

  • People nowadays forget one of the key things about all types of music. Less is more. I think Duke did more with fewer notes than anybody else would, especially compared to guys nowadays who are always trying to over complicate things. Keep it in a context and make the notes matter. Its not just a key or just a fret.

  • clever duke, love it............

  • Listen in mono

  • Duke el mas grande músico de USA

  • so clear and minimalistic!! delicius!

  • With Duke, you don't listen to music, you watch notes gently blown by the breeze on canvas.

  • simply he's the best!!!!!

  • I LOVE Duke´s minimalistic sound. All us piano players often tend to play WAY to many notes. Not the Duke though.

  • When talking about drum solos many people forget the greats of the jazz music scene and only focus on rock n roll. Rufus Jones kicked ass on the solo. One of the best drum solos in history

  • Apparently Speedy had a major drink problem and was replaced on "And His Mother Called Him Bill" and the Second Sacred concert by a white drummer Steve

... but he didn't want to be interviewed!

  • simply awesome

  • twisted in a great way or ways even Ya !!

  • his work isnt just music its a work of Art.

  • masterpiece!!! :D and the drumer is fantastic!!!

  • no lo puedo escuchar!!! no tiene sonido ahora

  • i love jazz and i love duke but this arrangement was kind of BORING

  • If the drum solo is insane, then I´m insane too, because I love it. Great, great bass. Duke shows he was an amazing piano player. THIS IS A MASTERPIECE!!

  • the one person who disliked this was the person who got their face melted by the insane drum solo

  • i loooove this bassplayer... damn... ^_^

  • @alisanchazz Check out his handiwork on Ellington's Far East Suite, especially the opening number, "Tourist Point of View". This very rhythm section drives the hell out of the orchestra.

  • @07123me they'd laugh at you. There are few people in the world, that admires that kind of art. I'd give you standing ovation ;)

  • Obviously the drum part is child's play. It totally shows that the guy has no talent. (sarcasm)

  • The master

  • Obviously Duke is not cool with the bass player.

  • Hamburg Steinway B-211 Baby.... Pro Piano KNOWS!!! Ricard

  • 67-Duke Ellington trio

  • Duke a eu des batteurs bien plus intéressants...

  • this drum solo is really wicked

  • @bekifftercookie1 I thought so considering the year this was done

  • Comment removed

  • Is there a stange whispering in this recording? Am I mad?

  • absolutly very absolut. OMG, where is this club? i give up guitar play,,,,

  • Too good

  • Duke was a subtle, humble, stylish, impeccably tasteful pianist who really knew how to shine in a small group setting while highlighting the talented musicians who played with him. Money Jungle w/Roach and Mingus is fantastic. Wish he'd made a dozen more records like this.

  • @kdwade

Don't forget to listen to Duke's piano trio recordings with Blanton.

  • @pooperscoopr69 what album(s) are you referring to? i need this for my ears!

  • Sometimes with Duke's composition and allowances for young cats improvisation - you get a sense of what Jazz and what it will become.

  • The key to being a great player, a great communicator is to listen to the other cats in the group. All of these cats are very good listeners.

  • Masterpiece.

  • Any fan of this video and Duke Ellington in trio and small combos in general should check out both Money Jungle (Blue Note Reissue CD) and especially Piano In The Foreground (Columbia Reissue)

  • so fluent, an amazing piano trio ound, yeah better than most round today. drum solo... oh my god!! amazng.

  • The, beg. /middle of this is reminisent of The Shepard w. lamb / woodyard ,similar jam ,chord 's but Time's a bit different AND room for musical RUFUS who still blows away Blast beat and non drummers, Get some Help,..

  • very, very good!!!

  • drum solo was siiiiick

  • Pretty fast drum solo.

  • Where did the Duke take me?

  • Segun dice al final del video se llama "on the fringe of the jungle". Igual está escrito a la derecha del video, donde está la info del usuario. Respecto del baterista no logro encontrar uno con ese nombre. Tendré que seguir buscando.

  • that drum solo was pure insanity

  • One day... one day when I'm grown up... I'll hope to play just like John Lamb here in this video.

  • Not just great players but great communicators as well. They play with a clear and common purpose and it sounds so much better to my ears than so much of todays piano trios. Magnificent.

  • Rufus Jones has got to be one of the most incredible drummers I've ever seen.

  • Very cool, daddio.

  • Rufus is gone son!

  • Publiquen el nombre del baterista please, gracias

  • El baterista se llama Rufus Jones.

  • i have this on dvd, plus with horns!!

  • This is life!:-)

  • Long Life for de Duke!!!

  • WOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA WOWOWOWOWOWOWO.

    WHOOOOOOOOOOOO.

YEAH yeah pfiuuuuuuuuu pfiuuuuuuuuu pfiuuuuuuuu (whistles).

    My-god.

I'm such a fuckin big fan of money jungle !!!!!!!! I didn't know this piece. My-god.

    My god.

  • that is a great record!!

  • Jo Jones, Philly Jo, Elvin, Harold, and here "Speedy" Rufus Jones (also with Maynard's band). Both of these guys fit with Duke than Mingus and Roach ("Money Jungle") or Elvin and Garrison (the Coltrane-Duke session). Look for a youtube vid erroneously labeled 1940 for Duke the florid piano player. Later he could sound Monkish in both touch and use of time. This guy carries on in the Blanton tradition--as did Aaron Bell and Joe Benjamin.

  • Of course they fit better than Mingus and Roach on Money Jungle; these guys were part of his regular band, the Mingus-Roach thing was a one-off album done in a day. It's a gratuitous comparison.

  • Esto es lo que se llama una obra maestra.

IN OTHER WORDS...THIS IS A REAL MASTERPIECE.

    Salud.

  • Mr. Lamb is awesome! Duke also! And the drummer... Awesome... Incredible performance!

  • SUMMA CUM LAUDE

    Salud.

  • BOM BATERISTA ESTE HEIN!!!! FUDIDO.

  • Hola! Quisiera saber el nombre del baterista,me lo envías?.

    saludos

  • Thank you very much for posting this great video on Youtube!

Just a suggestion : I think your video could be much more heard and seen if you would put more elements in the tags such as the title of this piece, the album from which it comes from, and the names of all the musicians.

  • Thanks so much for this one! Excellent video AND audio quality! Kudos!

  • Beautiful piece I've never heard before. Different but unmistakably Duke.

  • This is really really good, did this trio ever release any albums?

  • Man, I really dig this! Thanks for posting!

  • Wow, thanks for this post!!! NICE!!

  • A genius!

  • this song is part 2 to the little purple flower

  • correction, its actually an excerpt from a song called, "eggo"

  • Wow I was almost mad searching desperately for some Ellington solo or in little combo, thank you very much!!

  • A great trio.
