Barney McKenna (seated, playing banjo), John Sheehan (fiddle), Jim McCann (guitar), Sean Cannon (guitar), Ronnie Drew (singing the song), Paddy Reilly (guitar), Eamon Campbell (guitar, mop of white hair!)
Two questions about this song: Dicey Reilly (sp?) is the heart of what? and Was Dicey a real person? I know lots of Dublin's characters made it into songs, like in "The Mero."
classic geek - yes there is not a lot to say for getting old but am lucky enough to have seem these blokes! Ronnie Drew was great! Live in NW england but saw him in dublin - Magic!
I wish I could have seen Ronnie when he was alive in concert but the biggest issue for me is the fact that I'm 15 hopefully I'll be able to see the Dubliners before they leave this earth I am sincerely jealous of all of you who have seen them
I'm looking for a good history book on Ireland, old and modern. But, i'd rather get one that was written by an Irishmen/Irishwoman. And, needless to say, in America it's hard to find books that aren't Canonized horse shit. Any recommendations?
Poor old Dicey Reilley hasn't got it all wrong. There's worse things than the sup, so don't feel too sorry for Dicey, after all she's in Ireland enjoying a drink or two....not bad.
Relax Chawky - 5 guitars IS a lot, particularly for a kind of music that isn't naturally FOR guitars. But they do a great job working them all in...it isn't easy to find something for 5 guitars to do. What's the story on the video? Lots of friends of the Dubliners joining them on stage?
my daughters doin dis song in a major venue over xmas with her skool but the words are changed!! great song!!!! cmon some smart fucker say somtin???? if yis dnt like dis sort of music wot d fuk as yis doin on here?????????????
I was in Dicey Reilly's on Harcourt St watching the Dublin v Tyrone match. There was thunder and lightning outside. Then the news came on saying that Ronnie had died.
People were genuinely very sad and stopped whatever conversations they were having to watch the tribute to Ronnie.
i love this song my cousin who is basically another mother to me is called dicey rielly in our local haha she hates it but i love singing this song to her haha
this i a great song when my sister told me why she keeps singing it we all mad fun of her but no i no it brings back memores for her in 4th class with her mates now she is in 3 year xxxxx ha ha
can anyone help me. My husband would sing a song of theirs about a young girl that would sale her body to get money to look after her father, all the men wanted to marry her but she wouldn't. When her father died she then disappeared. It was a lovely but sad song. My husband died 4 years ago. His son is now 12 and can still remember his father singing it. My husband was half Irish the other Scotish! What a mix !!!!! Thank you
i'll neva 4get the day he passed way, i was at the dublin tyrone game i'll neva 4get walkin bak from the game people were in bits over him, i'll neva 4get it. RIP
@steinerz66 And that's the reason I don't fear Death-despite leaving loved ones on earth, i'll have so much fun with the Dubliners waiting for them :)
They are one of the best Irish bands ever, this somg is another example of their amazing talent and singing skills, thank God for the Sons of Ireland. Thanks praskovia13 for this video share.
ah now here, Luke was the greatest ballad singer of all time alright but his banjo playing never came anywhere near Barney's. Luke played a 5-string banjo basically as a rhythym instrument to play chords. Barney plays melody on tenor banjo. Completely different instrument and much harder to play properly
Don't you think Iknow that? It's just I don't think Luke was at the concert when this was filmed. This must have been filmed in about 2002/03 or something.
Irish culture is so strong . It will never die, who breathes it once, never more will forget that.

Don't you think Iknow that? It's just I don't think Luke was at the concert when this was filmed. This must have been filmed in about 2002/03 or something.
jameshlee17 4 years ago
Yeah it was in 2002. Thought you were saying Luke was as good a banjo player as Barney, my apologies
woollywonder 4 years ago
OK no bother. What I meant was that Barney is the best banjo player alive. No offense to Luke of course.
