OOOHH, I have been wanting a new bird for a pet for a long time since our parakeet past away to an illness, he was old! Ever since I can remember being a little baby, he was around our house and my father would take him to place with us. I think I want to get a lovebird. Where do you get or buy these lovebirds?
YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO AWESOME. I SIMPLY COULDNT STOP KISSING MY COMPUTER SCREEN AFTER WATCHING THOSE BIRDS,,,, THOSE ARE TRUELY THE BEST AND I LIKED THE WAY YOU TREAT THEM AS YOUR OWN CHILDRENS. GOD BLESS YOU.
@KarayanDesdemona and everyone else: I'm sorry, I have to interject, because holier than thou know-it-alls drive me nuts. I volunteer at a bird sanctuary with a little over 100 birds who were everything from abused, abandoned, to rescued. I also have my two birds at home, and the thought of them being hurt or scared upsets me. So I know where you're coming from with your concerns. But really, if you did research on TLA, you'd find lots of positivity and responsibility taking place.
Precious little things. I have a question. What do you call the lovebird sitting on your hand? I have one of the same colour but I don't know the right name for it's species. Also when I try to pick him up with my hand he lets out this little call of fear. Do you think he might of been abused or just afraid of hands? I've had him for three years and he still does it.
wow! I've seen a few videos of your lovebirds already, and I really have to ask. How many lovebirds do you have?! Mine flew away because it got scared by a dog and never came back... ='(
Lovebirds are amazing! I think that it would be soo hard trying to raise a bunch of lovebirds......I could never do it! But, I want to.....
Lol. Very cute video. All of the videos that I have watched, that are yours, have beautiful colorful lovebirds..... :D 5 stars to you and pretty lovebirds!!!!
again i am in no way finding fault with the way you are raising them like your own babies. everyone who follows your posts and videos will know you care for them a lot and love them. peace!
Yes, and that is the main goal we have as an aviary, to help bird owners learn more about their birds and how to give them the best lives possible in captivity.
its sumthn else if you r providing homes to abandoned birds, birds which hv flown out and caught by the animal ambulances or people who abandon them with cages on streets coz thy cannot care for them anymore. i realise these cannot be set free as thy r not used to living in the wild. a home for these already handraised birds is understandable. my statements are not meant to be personal or just twds you. am just voicing views about buying birds and breeding them whoever does it around the world.
You are certainly entitled to your opinion and there are lots of people who feel the way you do. We do not encourage our pairs to breed, but they do. Since we cannot keep all the babies they have, we have to find homes. We made them take a year off, and as bad as this sounds, the only way we could do that is by replacing laid eggs with fake eggs. We try our best to fight the nature in them, but it still happens. And since they are in captivity, we do our best to give them the best home.
Oh and we do find many abandoned birds homes. We just don't advertise that we do it. Most people come to us via email or phone calls to find homes for their birds.
@stargazrt4 I only saw your reply, and not the original poster. I am confused, if you don't want them to breed, why not just separate them but let them be near each other? I'm sure it would be rough at first, but after awhile they'd be fine. That or reduce their lighting periods etc etc so it no longer mimics breeding season conditions etc. And leaving fake eggs with them. You seem to love them and take good care of them, its a shame so many of them are abandoned.
@KarayanDesdemona I don't have time to write a book. This video is 4 years old. Dewey and Sierra are retired, Cody and Mia have not had babies in over a year and our methods of keeping the birds busy with playgrounds and human time have worked without ever seperating them which we will never seperate a bonded pair who love each other more than most humans.
@stargazrt4 What birds are being abandoned? Our pairs get to be around their babies from hatch to wean. Plus, we know every home that our babies have ever gone and stay in close contact with most of them even now.
@stargazrt4 That's great, I never asked you too, nor looked at the date of the video, sorry. I'm glad you finally found methods that worked to discourage breeding behavior. I merely assumed you tried those methods before, they didn't work, so separation might be one of the only options. It wasn't meant to offend. I merely used to work with animals and rescues for much of my life, so I get concerned and try to help where I can. Have a nice day :)
i dont for a moment mean that you guys r not taking good care of it. all i am sayin is bredding more n more birds in captivity and confining them to a routine adapted to humans doesnt sound like a bird's life. however well we try to justify that thy are free and happy. they are birds and thy hv to live and die in nature be it for 24 hours n then being killed by bird of prey or 24 yrs. the more u breed them,u r only increasing and encouragin more people to buy them.
i think birds need to be left free in the nature as they were meant to be. breeding them and giving them love and affection as a pet is great but we r interfering with wat thy are supposed to be. how would it be if humans wr raised in a tree hole by a bunch of loving caring hornbills who take care to feed us on time, care for us etc etc. would we like it? just because we are on top of the food chain and boss of the pyramid, we assume that we can change everything to suit our needs.
Hey!! Your birds are amazing, same with u anyway I got two sister lovebirds Rosie and Baily i got them as second hand birds Baily bites and she is teaching rosie i read in a book if u get rid of a bird the other bird will like u more?? Is that true also How do i teach baily to bite she lunges at you but rosie will step up (She has her temper sometimes) Can you give me any idvice? Thanks
hi umm im OBSESSED with lovebirds because their so sweet and gentle, but i was just woundering, what do you FEED the babies when you hand feed them? like whats in the mixture? thanks bye xox

I was having a discussion with verticalsmurf on domestic birds and grit. I got an e-mail saying that he replied. I came back to reply and I couldn't find any of the posts. :-| Did you delete the conversation?
This is a highly debatable topic, but our understanding is that grit is only needed in birds who do not hull their seeds. Most finches, for example, eat the seed whole and use a small amount of grit to help digest the seed.
However, if anyone were to look into our flock's bowls, you would find hulls from the seeds that are uneaten. You see, most hook bills remove the outer casing and just eat the meat of the seed. They don't need assistance in digesting the meat of the seed. Also, with a well-balanced diet, birds don't need grit as a source of Calcium.
Unfortunately, we have heard of many birds, especially budgies/parakeets, who have compacted their crops full of grit. This can cause complications because the grit won't digest, the bird will stop eating, or can even die.
Therefore, we do NOT recommend grit.
(Our Board-Certified Avian Vet would concur on this!)
There will be no more discussion about grit. This is our board and any more comments about grit will be deleted. We will not be responsible for the death of birds on our sites.
I didn't repeat anything. You deleted my comments, repeated what I said (in the deleted comments) almost word for word (in your new comments), and now you're not being very nice. I don't "need" to do anything. What happened to freedom of speech? I'm being polite and expect to be treated as such. Verticalsmurf was spreading incorrect information, and I was trying to educate him/her and anybody else who happened to be reading the comments to prevent pet birds from dying, just like you are.
Even though we appreciate your input, if there is someone who is providing incorrect information it is our responsibility to put a stop to it. If the views or comments start a debate or cause confusion that could cause other people to harming their birds, we will delete the comments.
OK, I understand what you're trying to do, and I respect it, but I just don't find it fair that you deleted my comments, which contained correct information, and kept xxbechasyxx & binashraf's comments, which contain incorrect informaion. That is all.
i have a peachface but he isnt tamed i used to have 4 lovebirds.
i feel soo mean cos i got them when i was 8 and i didnt know much about looking after birds so they didnt eat any fruit. my lovebird only eats seed, shellgrit and fresh green seed soo he's not on a very good diet. I cant convert him
anyway ill stop talking.. (sorry)
i really want a tamed lovebird from you but i live in australia so yeah...
what are the issues with back breeding? i had a situation where my daddy lovebird flew away and the mommy bird has now bred with her son. will i hav defective babies?
There is a lot, because they share so much of the same genetic weaknesses that would not cancel each other out in comparison to birds of different genes. Father and daughter is the worst combination, but mom and son is pretty bad also. Good luck with this clutch, but I would not let them breed again; too risky.
how would i go about introducing a new mate to my mommy lovebird. every time i've tried she either kills the new mate or seriously injures him. I feel like ive tried everything. i was told to take out the nestbox for a couple of days but...im skeptical. what should i do or how should i go about it.
if i took the nestbox out would she respond to a new mate? would she respond to the new mate even if i stayed with her son?
ps. love your videos. mine are peachfaces and i really want some green and yellow mixes so i wanna get a luttino male for my esmerelda. the son's name is The Green Goblin ( i let my neice name him). but your advice is crucial at this moment. ive only been breeding lovebirds for about 2 years so im fairly new at this. my original breeder male ricky flew away last august.
Birds can be very territorial. Get a new cage/avery or change the current one so that she doesn't recognise it. Let the male have a day in the new environment first, then introduce your girl. Also as stargaxrt4 said, remove any nest boxes.
thanks.. ill give it to him after he gets over his illness :) i have a ringneck but i dont give her grit.. only on occasions cos she will eat anything anytime lol
aww,he's ill? hope he gets well soon :), i love ring necks! was my first choice after i saw wild ring necks flying around london! they're amazing, striking birds, lol, but thought i'd start with budgies, (easier to manage) i've got 2 budgies, a 3 yr old female called saphire, and a 10 month old male called turk, turk just arrived, there was another male whos place he's taken called tweety, but he died about 6 months ago, (tweety's in my videos i think) :) tc, tell ringneck "get well sooon"
hehe soo cute. what colour are your budgies? hehe sorry about tweety :( (R.I.P) ill watch your videos.
yeh ringnecks are awesome but noisy at times and very cheeky lol. its my lovebird thats sick so ill tell him your wishes :P he's getting better slowly so its looking hopeful that he will recover.
dont they need a tiny bit of grit though? to digest properly? i have budgies, and i leave the grit potthere all the time, havnt topped it up in months but i see them taking tiny amounts from it now and again, they decide when they need it etc, and grit dissolves over time? , (so i've heard)
Gosh, I miss my lovebirds! Louie was sweet, but Rembrandt was the dohl of the bunch. Peach-face vs. Blue mutation Black Mask personality.
Myst, my friend's peachface was sweeter still. I sure do miss them.
... I've got a 2-year old normal green quaker, a 3-year old blue pacific parrotlet, and a 12-year old whiteface cockatiel... No lovebirds for about 14 years. *Sigh* I didn't realize it had been that long. Wow! Tempus fugit.
Gorgeous birds! Stunning. I used to breed budgies and I had one girl who was infertile, Lacy, but she was the best mother, if I had a girl who was struggling, I'd take a few of her eggs or babies and give them to Lacy, she was the most attentive, loving mother bird ever. I got out of the bird show scene as soon as I realised I was more interested in interacting with my birds than breeding birds that looked pretty.
my love birds had 5 eggs 3 of them already hatched but theres still 2 more that havent, yet.what should i do in case those 2 wont hatch?cuz as a far is i know ur not suppose to put ur hands in their nest cuz ive heard that she wont take care of them n eventually theyll die any advise on that?n also should i be concerned about the male i mean so far he is a good father he feeds the female n the babies n also keeps them warm when shes out of the nest is his attitude gona change towards the babies?
If the eggs do not hatch after 23 days, throw them out. The best advice I can give you is leave them alone. They know what they are doing. After the babies are weaned (8-10 weeks old) they need their own cage.
how do u kno if ur lovebirds pregnant? do they get fat cuz i see my girl love bird she be fat one min then it gose down r she stay fat for a like 2hrs then down. so how would u know
ok now wat should i get for the nest u think. cuz some one told me that there not the same kind of love bird. my male bird is a Peach-Face lovebird. nd idk wat my fmale is. but she yellow with green on here back not like all together but like all over her back. so do u kno wat kind that is. r is it a Peach-Face
We have six of our own: 2 pets (fids) and 2 breeding pairs. I also have 2 budgies. Right this moment, however, we have 9 more lovebird babies that we are looking to sell. Some have been inquired on, we are just waiting for some final answers. I should be posting a new video tonight of my fids!
get the foster mom away!!! she was pecking at the babies.

thanks.. ill give it to him after he gets over his illness :) i have a ringneck but i dont give her grit.. only on occasions cos she will eat anything anytime lol
how many budgies u got?
xxbechasyxx 2 years ago
aww,he's ill? hope he gets well soon :), i love ring necks! was my first choice after i saw wild ring necks flying around london! they're amazing, striking birds, lol, but thought i'd start with budgies, (easier to manage) i've got 2 budgies, a 3 yr old female called saphire, and a 10 month old male called turk, turk just arrived, there was another male whos place he's taken called tweety, but he died about 6 months ago, (tweety's in my videos i think) :) tc, tell ringneck "get well sooon"
binashraf 2 years ago
hehe soo cute. what colour are your budgies? hehe sorry about tweety :( (R.I.P) ill watch your videos.
yeh ringnecks are awesome but noisy at times and very cheeky lol. its my lovebird thats sick so ill tell him your wishes :P he's getting better slowly so its looking hopeful that he will recover.

dont they need a tiny bit of grit though? to digest properly? i have budgies, and i leave the grit potthere all the time, havnt topped it up in months but i see them taking tiny amounts from it now and again, they decide when they need it etc, and grit dissolves over time? , (so i've heard)

A bird will take avocado even though it will kill them in seconds also, but that does not mean it is good for them now does it.

They are making my cockatiel whistle at them, and my quaker is calling them, "Pretty Birds" --- Truly I must agree!

I got out of the bird show scene as soon as I realised I was more interested in interacting with my birds than breeding birds that looked pretty.

my love birds had 5 eggs 3 of them already hatched but theres still 2 more that havent, yet.what should i do in case those 2 wont hatch?cuz as a far is i know ur not suppose to put ur hands in their nest cuz ive heard that she wont take care of them n eventually theyll die any advise on that?n also should i be concerned about the male i mean so far he is a good father he feeds the female n the babies n also keeps them warm when shes out of the nest is his attitude gona change towards the babies?
f1fan84 3 years ago
If the eggs do not hatch after 23 days, throw them out. The best advice I can give you is leave them alone. They know what they are doing. After the babies are weaned (8-10 weeks old) they need their own cage.

ive watched many of your videos, and it brings back so many memories when i used to own lovebirds. keep them coming!
and just out of curiosity, how many lovebirds do you have in total at your place?
guyaroundthecorner 4 years ago 2
We have six of our own: 2 pets (fids) and 2 breeding pairs. I also have 2 budgies. Right this moment, however, we have 9 more lovebird babies that we are looking to sell. Some have been inquired on, we are just waiting for some final answers. I should be posting a new video tonight of my fids!

We were going to try something like this, have our hen sit on some parakeet eggs that would otehrwise be ignored, we haven't gotten around to it
