fronabulax63 if you think watching the Multihulls racing around in this event will be boring your truly out of touch. I have been watching the Extreme 40 racing along with F18 and Hobie 16 racing and its all very exciting to watch. Come on do you think the average person watching some big slow monohulls sailing upwind is that exciting? We need new blood in this sport if it is to grow.
WOW!!!!!! Already making travel arrangements. This will happen ,and then in two years the newest cat technology will be down to the F18s. Catamarans will bring back sailing to its popular prime. Fast and dangerous!!!
Now I am an avid match racer and there is no way these boats will match race at all. It will be who ever has the fastest boat and the best navigator to find the breeze. At least when they crash it will be interesting to watch otherwise its just drag racing
But I must say that this video has really impressed me even though it is unrealistic the speeds these boats are shown doing. According to this video and the spectators in the background these boats are traveling at 50kts+ and upwind no less
The PR Marketing Machine in full swing, they didn't CG this vid in a day, they were headad to SF all along. What put us all on pins and needles in SF was the high stakes posturing and negotiations. Hallelujiah!
@fronabulax63: How long has it been since you have seen some decent multihull sailing? I recommend you check out some of the extreme 40 series. The next AC will be heavily based on that format. The new format is specifically designed to attract new blood to the sport.

As someone who didn't care less about the AC until the 33rd because of the awesome boats - I'm very much looking forward to this and intend on spending my money in SF

these boats in this conditions are much to dangerous for match racing.
When they hit each other, the crew will be in real danger.
So they don`t go to close,and it will be boring highway sailing.....
