Hey Evo owner here. It's nice BMW came out with a car like the 335. For us those into turbo power, but want a car with premium quality of a BMW, this is the car. But what I don't understand is why a twin turbo 3L 6 is only making 300hp? E46 M3's were 333 with a NA 3.2L. With today's technology, I would think the 335i would make close to 400. The STi makes 305hp with a 4 banger and one turbo. Last time I saw twin turbo 6's making 300 was back in the 90's with the Supra and 3000GT VR-4.

Why would they offer a 400hp I6 3-series coupe for $45,000 if they were, at the same time, dumping a ton of money into a 414hp V8 for the new, $70,000 M3? This engine responds incredibly well to basic bolt ons, so if you ask me BMW held it back a bit so it wouldn't seem more powerful or better than the V8 in the M3.

the 335i engine is very restrained for drive-ability. if you wire out an engine to much it is not going to be as reliable or last as long. the thing about the 3L twin turbo is that there are staged turbos. one small one at lower rpm and the larger one that kicks on with higher rpm. simple mods gets you 400hp. they kept it 300hp so it would be a smooth revving engine. 1 turbo = huge lag. this engine has none! thats what is great.

and i love STI's and Evo's for the record. different cars.

I own a STI and love 'em to death but you've got to give credit where credit is due. The 335i is a great car for tuning. A little expensive to tune compared to a STI, but the results speak for themselves.
