Playing music is not about playing it as fast as you can. I heard the SFU at the worlds in the early 2000's and said that no band would beat them on their drone sound alone, and they won it that year.They are an awesome band. For pure tone and great drone sound, listen to the Field Marshal in the flesh.

At our last competition my Band sounded like the preverbial *Fire in a Petshop* but the Party was Fantastic!!  we sounded better drunk when I think about it.The Strathspey was definitley easier! It's all about taking part is'nt it! :O)

I have to disagree; there are several fundamental mistakes in the cinematography that give the video a rather amateur, albeit voyeuristic feel. It's a good thing I uploaded this clip as soon as I obtained it, so that others may learn from its example.

They got robbed at the 2006 Worlds. Anyone with half an ear would hear that they blew FMM out of the water. Mind you, FMM is a great band. But the SFU performance this year was in a class well-above grade 1, if that's possible.

one thing ive always wondered about pipe bands is what is that thing they do at the beginning with the drum rools and quick blast on the pipes called and whats it for?

The 'attack' as that is called is a military band tradition and is useful in helping a band to play in unison from the start of the set. It also helps everybody's marching to stay in step with each other.

That is damn good. I am just taking up the pipes now...after just doing about 3-4 months on the chanter. It is amazing how these guys play 7 min. without hardly missing a beat. Thanks for this sm8000.
