  • I would love to see a test done on how much the temp can rise in a car on a cold nite and how long the fuel lasts.

  • Buy a diagnostics tool for fifty bucks or get a free ecm scan at your local auto-parts store to avoid a unscheduled breakdown and burning your self to death in a car

  • @ivyinetbiz I'm sure that diagnostic tool will work awesome when a tie rod or ball joint breaks in the middle of no mans land. Not everything is computer.

  • I wouldn't be surprised if some one actually tried this and accidentally knocked over the burning can while in the car

    This guy is a fucktard

  • @ivyinetbiz You seem to be missing the point. People have frozen to death in their car. You sir are a AZZHOLE!

  • good job

  • Think i'll just carry an extra can of gasoline and skip the queer mcguyver shit...

  • pretty cool

  • it's all perfect, but where am I supposed to put the can in the car without setting myself on fire?

  • Can gasoline be substituted??

  • thanks. you are a good teacher.

  • A can of Sterno canned heat would give the same results, and it would be cheaper that buying a paint can, toilet paper, and several bottles of alcohol. You could also install a CB radio (citizens band) that will work in most places that a cell phone will not work. This must be how McGyver started out !!!!!

  • Look at the other video for a 12 volt fan heater. Just make sure that your battery is charged up well and in good condition.

  • What's the total burn time for one of these?

  • Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I do have a question though. How long would a pre-made one survive in the car? My thoughts are I guess how long will the toilet paper last as a suitable wicking material before it just turns itself to mush and becomes non existent. Again thanks, I think it is a brilliant idea. right now I keep an empty large pea can and emergency candles for such use.

  • awesome! I need to buy some toilet paper for my car along with the other practical stuff..Thanks!

  • See the comment below. I'm doing this in a very large kitchen, and the heat was incredible rising out of this. No burn marks anywhere whatsoever, not even on the paper. I set the large can lid gently on top and the fire went out in 4 seconds. Cools down fast. The flames rose about 8 to 9" at times, which would alarm me in a vehicle I suppose. How would I use this for cooking? If I put a pan on the can, it would act as a lid and put the fire out. I hope you can answer, this is NICE !

  • I went out today and bought everything I needed, between Lowes and Rite Aid, total was about $8. I went home, had a MAJOR SERIOUS problem getting the roll of toilet paper in the quart size can, almost stabbed myself trying to work it in, ended up unraveling aLOT of toilet paper, but did get it in. Filled it with 1 1/2 bottles of 70% alcohol, and lit the can setup in my sink in the kitchen. OMG ! It performed FAMOUSLY. This gets VERY warm. I'm keepin' this. LOTS of heat rising. Nice Job!

  • How long does it burn from start to finish (in the exact example you demonstrated?) 3 hrs? 5 hrs? 12 hrs? 18 hrs? etc. That would be very helpful to know. So you could make more than one if it doesn't last very long.

  • Metal is a heat conductor and having the internal tin sitting on top of the exterior tin means that heat will be transferred to the outter tin easily. So, you shoiuld use a heat insulator like a piece of wood in the base of the outter tin or you may cause problems and melt or incenerate whatever it is sitting on.

  • fucker if i buy those stuff from store i will be suspect for terorism

  • Isopropyl (Rubbing) Alcohol combustion is: 2C3H7OH + 9O2 → 6CO2 + 8H2O + heat

    Methanol combustion is: 2CH3OH + 3O2 → 2CO2 + 4H2O + heat

    Ethanol combustion is: C2H5OH + 3O2 → 2CO2 + 3H2O + heat

My point being, it should produce very little CO (A good thing if you want to stay alive inside the car where you are burning feul). However, fuels do have contaminants and the toilet paper itself when burned will produce some CO. Burning is generally unsafe without ventilation. Be very careful.

  • I had just bought two of each cans at Home Depot though I did not know what I was going to do with them. Best Idea I have seen yet, thanks!

  • Great idea, thanks. I would add that it would be best to use toilet paper that has no other chemicals in it. Many are scented or have skin moisturizers in them. Probably best to be as chemical free as possible in an small space like a car.

Thanks again. good thinking. Alcohol burns hot and clean

  • LOOK, it's Really a neat invention........with a little modification maybe a great soup warmer or something as well. let your mind be the leader.. and use common sense . Also to the comment of eastofacron1 must just be only 18 at the oldest, according to his language.Only not just disrespectful but shows how not only now, but how transparent his life is.

  • outstanding tip thanks by the way you look like my drill inst. gunny jones

  • Bravo!!!!!From Russia.....For Ice fishing!!!!!!

  • I use Heet for my alcohol stoves and it burns hotter. You can find it in the automotive section in most stores.

  • @FG37209 Heet is just isopropyl alcohol. It won't burn any hotter than his 91%, and definitely not hotter than the 99% you can now buy at drug stores. It's about $3 a quart for the 99%. Heet is considerably more.

  • I did this and its great!

  • Maybe you should change the title, doesn't seem to safe to use inside a car.

    But, awesome invention, Thanks.

  • Just be sure you never do this with the windows closed as Carbon monoxide will kill you, you could also suffocate from lack of oxygen. If you live in an area that is prone to storms, I would recommend a heavy down blanket in your trunk.

  • @christo930 what about drilling small hole (or 2) in the outer can and running some hose(s) to an adapter placed in the rolled up window. (would supply 02 and get rid of CO if done correctly)

  • @romansten9 I suppose if you put holes on each side of the can and ran the hoses to the window and cracked the window just enough for the hose to reach it might work, but probably not because the hoses wouldn't be big enough to supply the oxygen and get rid of CO and CO2. By the time the holes are big enough you have both windows open 2 inches or more creating a cross breeze and most hoses couldn't take the heat anyway and would melt where they go in the can.

  • I like the concepted imma try to mod it a lil bit for it to be more of a woodsy kinda thing....but i like it i will video reply with mine when i make it

  • great video man ! ive beent hinking about buying a fire pit for my deck ,too cold out there for my smokes (: but now im gonna just make one of these. just saved me a hundred bucks.thanks !

  • How awesome that was. I am going to send this to some people I know up north. Who knows, they might need it someday. Plus it is very interesting. Thank you for sharing this vid. ;o)

  • These work just fine. I carry the little alcohol burners that are used to keep buffet hot. Five of them take up less room than the can and they burn several hours each.

The bonus is that a simple ceramic coaster insulates the bottom of the little cans.

A gallon can is not that big and properly insulated you could easily set it in the floor of a pick up. I just like the little alcohol burners you buy in packs at SAMs ....

  • Excellent Video. Subbed. Would like to see more.

  • it all looks great just not overly practical to carry bottles of flammable liquid in the car.for some folks (like with pickups) a small box in the back would be not a badidea. good vid tho

  • @imsneeky many people carry alcohol gel in bottles to clean their hands (hand sanitizer) the stuff burns great and doesn't spill like liquid. Get some big bottles at the dollar store and store them in a metal can with something to use as a wick. They also have a practical use (hand cleaning) and aren't just taking up space.

  • nice! my heating core just blew and i might have to resort to this.the inside of my windshield is freezing in the morning already. awesome job man!

  • All fires use a lot of oxygen. Be careful in an enclosed space.

  • I bet fiberglass insulation would work as a wick too.

  • this is false. that outer can is going to get HOT. to do this CORRECTLY, there needs to be a good, non-combustible insulator between all sides of the two cans, and the inner can should be as near level with the outer as possible. Fireplace or woodstove ash (the really fine stuff) is good. about 2" in the bottom, then all around the sides. Personally, I wouldn't use this in a car without having another can over the inner can....where in your car are you going to put it so flames don't touch?

  • i like the idea of it, a really good heat source as long as the people know how to do deal with boiling and burning alcohol. in my opinion the outer can or some container to douse the flame is extremly important. spilling that shit while bunrning could get ur car hotter than you want... :)

anyways thx for the informaton! a fast and easy long time burning wick.

  • I'm a scout master here in Indiana and I did this for an activity with my scouts this week. They all thought it was the coolest thing. Thanks for the vid!

  • people use common sense it's not a good idea to have any kind of a fire in your car. Just carry extra blankets and clothes. Go outside the car if you want to start a fire.Where are you going to sit that can at in a car when it will get to hot to handle people use your heads.

  • @WaIkingthunder Burning your own shit.....LOL !!! hahahaha :)

  • I don't get why there are so many trolls on this video.. He is just demonstrating what you could do in an emergency situation than just burning your own shit to keep warm.

  • those are some appropriately named beans

  • Excellent video! Going to make one for camping and also emergency heat,. Thx!

  • Excellent idea! I would put the lid of the smaller can on the bottom of the big paint can for some extra insulation. Perhaps even an inverted tuna can would work better. Also, if you use one of the side opening can openers it allows you to remove the top cleanly and even reattach it just the way your paint lid does. You can use a #10 can and a big pineapple or bean can on the inside.

I can't wait to make mine. Also good for smores in a pinch.

  • Great video Thanks. ya might want to put a (CO) warning in there for the fools that might roll the windows up tight and go to sleep

  • Great Job I just learned somthing new today

  • This saved my life but I wasn't carrying alcohol around with me

  • good idea and it seems cool but it seems pretty impractical to keep two paint cans, toilet paper and multiple bottles of ISO in your car,

  • @bjizzle123

Not as impractical as being dead from being unprepared.

A simple heater of this type could have saved many a person stranded in snow storms they never though would happen to them.

  • Great video. I won't bother to read the other comments!

  • Great idea, thanks for the information, I am going to try this. I have about an hours drive home on very rural roads and no cell phone signal, always wondered what would happen if my engine conked out on a -10 degree night., now I don't have to find out. I think even with a window cracked this would provide enough heat to keep you from freezing to death. Always carry extra clothing and blankets with me in the winter time.

Too bad a video like this brings out the trolls and morons.

  • Dude, don't mind the idiot haters here. They're Obama voters and don't want you to be prepared. Keep it up, educating the public how to take care of themselves is instrumental.

  • yeah top it up when the flame is still there and you ll burn yourself to death

  • great video i use these in my der stand and duck blinds all winter, they work great!

  • made 1 its in car now winter coming but if u didnt use it all how would u put it out? just put cover on?

  • all these assholes making negative comments, fine, freeze to death and go fuck yourselfs. You can jack off to keep warm.

  • @eastofakron1 Yeah dont think thats a good idea never seen Bear Grills do that on Man VS Wild so must not be a good way to stay warm

  • @eastofakron1 ... The TV show Myth Buster did an investigation on your claim and the two hosts almost froze to death after jacking off repeatedly in cold weather in an effort trying to keep warm.

Stop making unscientific statement on here. You could kill someone.

  • @nipzilla I laughed at your remark so hard I almost passed out. WTF. C'mon, you gotta give this guy credit, it's a fantastic idea, and in a small enclosed space, this has got to work/warm enough air to feel a difference. I mean, c'mon, you aint trying to heat the living room, right? Or are you....

  • @eastofakron1 im dying of laughter...

  • Just a tip: Make sure you keep the window open some for ventalaton. As long as you keep the window open a few inches you will be fine.

  • curious. love idea will try it only concern is if you had to or wanted to put it out how do u do that? how do u snuff it out? can it be reused if u didnt use it all?

  • Cool, you could make it better by welding the small can to the large one, punching a bunch of holes in the large can, insulating the handle and using a longer lasting wick material like Kevlar. That way you could put the lid on and catty it by the handle like a lantern.

  • hey hey this is u tony keep all this rubbing alcohol in your can see '' so ya when i get in a car crash i am going to expolde. ya i would arther freeze

  • @deadguy237

its widely known that rubbing alcohol explodes with impact.... Idiot!

  • @antoniscon007 I hope I don't hurt your feelings TOO MUCH...idiot, by raining on your parade, but.....Under certain circumstances you can explode alcohol.

    1) tennis ball cannon

    2) spud gun

To detonate alcohol you need to compress the hot

    alcohol and then ignite it.

Neither of these circumstances are present in this application. Now, BITE ME !

  • @chivone21 Please, learn how to detect irony in text form.

Hint: when someone says something blatantly obvious like "its widely known that rubbing alcohol explodes with impact"

I do apologise to TacticalIntelligence for indulging your petty comments on his video page; since i did enjoy his video very much.

  • Death trap !!!!!!!!!!!!

  • what do you do if you need to take a dump..? does everyone have to freeze until you come back with the toilet paper. and would you use the paper on your butt after all that alcohol has been on it ?

  • @bontromium LOLOLOLOLOL....AHhahahaha!

  • i heard running a hose from the exhaust into the vehicle works EVEN BETTER :)

  • You from Mas?

This would've saved my ass in a few occasions... Now I know what to keep in my car. [caaah]

  • nice information thanks for sharing!

  • to make it simply, I just will drink that alcohol and be happier.

  • only bit of advice mising is to open your window on vehicle a little bit. generally opposite side that wind comeing from.

  • Using this inside a car or even a tent is nuts. It should only be used with lots of fresh air. To say it produces little CO2 is wrong, -- it has to, the conversion of the alcohol and oxygen to CO2 and water is what complete combustion is. You should have learned this in 8th grade chemistry, if you paid attention. However, the real problem is not the CO2 but the carbon monoxide (CO). Some CO will be produced, guaranteed, and it gets worse as the oxygen is consumed. That will kill you.

  • its fine if you resist the urge to sleep but yea... itll eventually knock you out and kill you from suffocating you

  • Hey, i got a bunch of that stuff that i carry in my trunk at all times! WHY DO PEOPLE WASTE TIME AND MAKE VIDEOS LIKE THIS!!!!!!!

  • so its ok to breath right

  • hey litovnese619, this actually produces very little co2 plus you should crack your window. this is meant only to keep you from freezing to death. Of course maybe you should light this, roll your windows up, go to sleep and prove Darwin right moron.

  • nice, let's burn some and make carbon monoxide in your car and pass out quick. I think it's a great idea, we should all try that and die.

  • @LiToVNese619

Are you stupid or something? Carbon Monoxide is produced by burning fossil fuels not rubbing alcohol which is Hydrogen monoxide. This is a clean burning fuel.

  • nice idea! Just don't top it up while it's still burning.

  • does it smell bad in any way??

  • AWESOME
