@julkaxDxD i think it was because she was on a previous show with Maks and she did not want to be partnered with Maks that is probably why she got derek as a partner, although i think you were right, she would have been wonderful with Maks, Maks is more at her level of strictness, I'm not saying she would have won with Maks but this is why i never liked Maks other than for this one week because he is too strict on his partners and i can see why she was partnered with derek instead of Maks.

@theyankeegal13 They don't pick their partners, the producers do. In season 10 Erin Andrews admitted she wanted to be partnered with Tony and she got Maks. Although sometimes I wonder in season 8 if Julianne asked the producers to partner her with her then boyfriend Chuck Wicks.

@bart11114 i kind of think the pros and the celebrity partnership is taken into account, if i remember i think it is random because two pros may want the same celebrity sometimes and there are numerous celebrities who all ask for the same pro. Think about dereks fanbase, i bet he gets a lot of requests from certain celebrities, i remember seeing an interview and nicole actually requested derek but i guess part of it is the fans as well, they may choose a partner for a certain pro as well.

@SavethePanthers I don't think she was so awful; I think she was eliminated when she was because any fan base she may have had is probably mostly male, and I think most of the people who watch and vote are women. And anyway, why should Derek have all of the best partners?

@el7jake derek did not always get the best partners, in fact his first partner was considered by many fans to be his best partner while Shannon was considered the be the black hole when it comes to dereks past partners. Brooke was a natural but not as popular which is the case with joanna, joanna and brooke were both surprises when it comes to partners. Nicole, Jennifer, and Lil Kim all had some previous experience in fields that were very dance oriented. Hopefully derek will get any natural.

I really struggled with Maks for several seasons because of how rough and unprofessional he was with his female celebrities but it was this performance that totally captured me as a fan. This would have been phenomenal were it not for that misstep. Joanna is really the kind of partner they need to give to Max. Mel B and Laila Ali were wonderful but imagine giving Maks a Nicole Scherzinger? WHAM! Fantastic! We'll continue to hope!
