Wow now macs come with special FX on the screen? This Jobs guy sure is breaking through with new technologieeeeees!... Oh... it was a deffect??? er... sorry to hear that I thought they just worked...
well i have a IMac G4 when it start mac i see no apple screen i just see a folder icon with a question mark and mac folder blinking i figured it out i pushed alt option but then i don't see anything anyone no what wrong with my mac
Have finally worked this out it's overheating there is sunlight warming the screen and turning it black insane someone posted they had the same issue and I tested it and yup sunlight I love my mac but really apple sort it out she says from her iPhone which rocks my world thanks all for helping :) oh yeh good one we do have computers in Australia on ya sooooo funny my side is splitting no really stop it sigh
i just bought an imac about 2 weeks ago and i have an issue ... a few minutes after i turn it on .... the screen goes off... well not off but black... and ughh... i hate it coz i also got issues with my ipod... gosh cant these ppl do anything right...grrr... well i hope you get to fix your prob! good luck
I have a "black blob" all across the top of mine except it is gray and not black and it doesn't go away. It looks like dirt but it is on the inside and I have the white iMac and not the aluminum with the screen that comes off with a suction cup.
Your power supply in the top left corner inside your imac is overheating the back of the screen. I had a similar problem with that. If its new just take it to the apple store and have them fix it for free.
My new 24" iMac does the same thing, Apple had it for 2 weeks and couldn't make it happen... was your screen in direct sunlight? It happens oon mine when it gets hot from running or if the sun shines....even cold winter sun...
Don't know about the blob; but there is a worse issue the glare. Jobs decided to go glossy screen, so at the very least never have the machine facing a window....
I think it might help to run the color calibration wizard again and do that. Then it might help to try turning it on somewhere else to see if it's from electrical interference. If that doesn't work, I think I'd call it on applcare.

@audioslaverockband
That mean your heard drive is dead. Hope you backed up your work cause its gone now.
Same thing happened to two of my macs.
RINGO4LIFE 1 year ago
@audioslaverockband that usually means that your iMac can't find/ boot from the os. re install mac os x, by holding the "C" key when you turn it on.

As YoyoFlamingo commented, its posible that a magnetic source can interfere with the circuits.
Dafaernir 3 years ago
maybe a magnet is near by
YoyoFlamingo 3 years ago
but it does like goes ... so she would have to move the magnet i don't think it's a magnet
topazsin12 3 years ago
maybe you have something giving off a magnetic field like speakers, i dunno. move it to another room adn see if it does it

Apple says they can fix anything related to the software for free. you dont need to be under warranty. If they can't fix it they replace it. :)
