Even a slight change in the position of a muscle or bone, for either, would be excruciatingly painful and would not be an advantage for survival. It is quite possibly because I am uncreative at the moment, but I can only think of two natural unstated points of comparison: a baseline aggregate measure, or oneself. As the comparison is TO the former, that only leaves the latter as the unstated contrast.

as far as I know, the appendix in humans plays an important role in our immune systems. It's sort of an ingrained concept that the appendix is entirely vestigial, along with the tonsils. They are important and helpful, but not necessary.

What is indicated by the fossil record is that birds evolved from dinosaurs. Dinosaurs were not amphibious.
