Even though this movie is older than me by a few years, this is one of my all time favorite films. I love the time period, and the music... it is genius and beautifully made.
This is one of my favorite movies for a lot of reasons, the biggest being that even though it was decades later, this family could have been my Jewish family, complete with the lilt that was Yiddish even when the words were English.
could somebody please tell me what exact recording of September Song is playing in the beginning? it is by far my favorite version. please and thanks! :D
I love the introduction with September Song on the background. It perfectly sets the tone for this movie (along with the preceding opening gag, of course!).
This film means so much to me because it portrays my parents' era. If I were to make a movie about their teenage years during the Depression, it would be a lot like this.
And us crazy Irish were in the neighborhood next door.

This performance of "September song" is one of the best I've ever heard. also "Body and Soul" is fantastic.

Radio stars were just as big as movie stars back then. Though most are now forgotten.

Our fondest memories. It is true. The gloomiest, rainy, snowy days were the most beautiful.
