Filmmaking is an art. I think Nolan is very aware of this and he is a GREAT artist with a great intuitive mind, but filmmaking is also show biz and you have to mix the two. Without your audience, you have no business. I think he tried to pack too much into a 2 hour film. The concept was great, but the organization of the ideas was rather poor. I'd give it around a 7.

Yeah the two "old men" that she interviewed have to be the most incompetent people...how can you NOT understand this movie after viewing number one?? I found no trouble understanding the movie in its entirety...."Bamboozled"? "Pretentious"? You've got to be kidding; people like that old man are the reason why Americans are getting dumber by the day: no common sense.

The movie isn't difficult to understand. But it is definitely not a movie you can talk to your buddy during. On a second viewing, I picked up a lot of subtleties and nuances in the first half of the movie pertaining to things that were only really explained in the second half of the movie. Which is what you wan't to find to make the second viewing more enjoyable. I give this movie an overall 9.5 - 10/10(don't really have a definitive answer as of now).
That old man was a complete moron. He was just angry because he is too dim to understand the film... which, is really not that difficult to understand. I also find it EXTREMELY annoying when someone cites a piece of art as being "pretentious". It is not pretentious, it is ambitious; and whether or not the art succeeds is a different story, but I always admire ambition especially because of the lack of it in Hollywood today.
There's just one thing about inception that i didn't like and it was how Ariadne designed the "dream" specifically for action sequences. I thought they didn't know Fischer's mind was trained by an extractor...yet! The environments were built specifically for ACTION.

There are many layers to the film, with basic understanding then the complex understanding, and then you can argue what the plot twist was in the movie. Then there's the fact that it is actually a movie about making a movie.
Definitely more complex than all the other films of 2010.
It's not hard to grasp, but you need to sit it at least twice to get EVERY little detail.

Why was Cobbs wife standing opposite of the hotel room on the other side on a different building and how did she get there? Also, every single one of Nolans movies has strong character development except this one, why? After watching many of these reviews in the theater I have to ask and I am serious, Why do so many of these people have back packs on when they are going to the movie. Is this a big city thing? Well, apparently this movie appealed to plenty of people. it's currently rated as the 3rd or 4th best film of all time on IMDB. As well, it has reached over 200 million dollars at the domestic box office. On top of that, this movie is just fucking incredible. One of history's very best.

@themightyjoseph i say he was awake, cus the top begins to wobble a split second before it ends, and if it was a dream, 1. It would never shake, and 2. Notice how he only has a ring on in the dreams? he didn't have one on at the end.
although the ending was intentional cus christopher nolan wanted us to be left wondering what really happened

@ThoseWhoGame Ok, now let me tell you something that will challenge your idea. Why was Cobbs wife standing opposite of the hotel room on the other side on a different building and how did she get there? Also, every single one of Nolans movies has strong character development except this one, why? Unless these characters dont actually exist in that world, and Cobb is the only one because all of it is in his dream.

@themightyjoseph Character development? im sure that Cobb, reaching peace with his wife being gone towards the end counts as development. and if he was dreaming when his wife killed himself, how could he just keep going into more levels and yet not drop into limbo, although his willingly went in there and if Ariadne was just a projection, how was it that she was the only one who understood Cobbs prob if everyone was a projection?

I think marion cotillard was by far the best actress of Incetion, there were some moments she showed so much emotion with little or no dialogue

I would not watch it again. For the simple reason that I loved it. My parents thought it was boring since they had seen The Matrix. Watching Inception once again would kill the magic for me.

chris's best film so far, the man is a genius and always leaves you reflecting on life, my only dispute on this is that he sometimes tries to hard and i think he should let it flow.

I absolutely love inception, it is tbe best movie i have ever seen to date. But as for the dark knight i believe it was a good movie but, i think that it got a little carried away saying that was a standard set for movies. I believe the only reason it got as much attention as it did was from ledgers death, if it wasn't from that it wouldn't have gotten as much attention as it did. But you can shun me all you guys want but i honestly believe thats why it was so popular. Inception was amazing tho.

After watching many of these reviews in the theater I have to ask and I am serious, Why do so many of these people have back packs on when they are going to the movie. Is this a big city thing? Do they load them up with a bunch of food. Thats the only thing I can think. I don't think anyone has ever even thought of bring a back pack into our 8 plex movie theater and whats with all the guys carrying man bags? I know you folds who are being interviewed must come through u here so tell me , Thanks

i don't know what the big fuss is about, it wasn't that hard to follow, alot easier to understand than the matrix when it first came out! tom is right, better than the dark knight! ahh it was soo awesome :D also apparently if you wait til the end of the credits the spinny thing topples? ahh i can't get over how amazing it was<3

I don't appreciate Grindhouse being in there. Moneymakers don't mean good movies, definately not. I thought Death Proof was quite fantastic and Planet Terror was quite good as well. Oh well.

I just think that those people given it either a too good review or saying it is crap is for the exact same reason, a side of them it's just because they just didn't fully understand the complexity of the flick and have their intelligence offended in the process, that's why they say it is over-complicated and that is a trick from Christopher Nolan to make you watch it more than once!
the other part give extragood reviews because, as the other group, they didn't quite got it, but won't accept it

I think you need to scope out a new movie theatre... sad that the people at these theatres gave the new Karate Kid a higher score than Inception. And I agree with "likeastarbaby" - this was an easy movie to understand the first time. It was a complex movie told in a simplistic way. Incredible!

Yea i commented on this when I first watched it and now that I'm watching it again, those old men were complete jerk***s. I understood it the first time I watched it. The only thing I get from the 2nd, 3rd & 4th viewings were the same things I'd get from watching "Sandlot" the 4th time. I see things I missed. I didn't understand more. Just pay attention

Inception has got to be my favorite movie in a long time. I actually payed attention when I watched it so I didn't have to watch it again to understand it. Christopher Nolan just keeps on making great films. I still plan on watching it again because it's so amazing.

Nolan is the best at what he does. If you like Inception go see The Prestige it's another one of Nolan's "confusing" movies, BTW they are not that confusing. Inception was great and I wanted to add a little more to my last comment. Inception is the new Avatar of 2010 no questions asked. Like i said Inception is better than Avatar and blue aliens flying around like monkeys. Leonardo Dicaprio gives an awesome performance. The ending (please excuse me) "mindf***'s you at the end. Thanks guys

Best movie I have ever seen. Nolan is awesome. Avatar sucks compared to Inception. A lot of people underate this movie. And i think this movie beats Avatar out of the water. This movie was never boring. I still dnt understand why ppl were confused. I understood the movie in one showing just PAY ATTENTION TO EVERY DETAIL. Throughout the movie they repeat some of the stuff. This movie was very enjoyable and for pleasure I would see it again. Leonardo Dicaprio was awesome (no homo).SEE IT. THANKS

Well, apparently this movie appealed to plenty of people. it's currently rated as the 3rd or 4th best film of all time on IMDB. As well, it has reached over 200 million dollars at the domestic box office. On top of that, this movie is just fucking incredible. One of history's very best.

the plot was complicated but understandable as welll...becuz there are effforts made by Mr Nolan to understand the plot at times....repetitive explanations about situation in the movie...
