I had the same problem with 3 MTH engines. Rock Island U30C, BNSF ac4400cw & the new es44ac. I discovered it seems to be with the 6 wheel trucks. For all 3 engines they are the exact same trucks (mechanically). I also noticed that it was more pronounced at the point on my layout farthest from the power hook-ups from the transformer. A call to MTH tech. told me to loosen the screws that hold the bottom of the trucks to the top of the trucks- this helped loosen the gears & free them up. It worked!
@CSX4343 I very well Understand what u r going threw with the speed controls,, I have an ALCO NEW YORK CENTRAL S2 Switcher, which was acting up, ran cool at first, but .when i went to pick up the freight do some switching and coupling, DAM!!!!! I REALLY COUPLED!!!!, I press down hard on the RED EMERGENCY Button, to stop the the unit dead , and went to use another switcher, I had to go and travel to get the other switcher from my moms house, and send that to the shop ,
I guess I'm fortunate in that I can "Try before I buy" at my local train store....otherwise, they wouldn't see a nickel from me until I see it run in their store!
i know how you feel- i purchased a CSX SD70 from Trains n Things and it popped- turned out it was used and it had a scratched circuit board and RC battery not MTH-- really pissed sent it to Scags Trains where I live- he gave it to Mike Wolf- Trains n Things made pick any engine from the table as an apology- then I traded for another CSX- that one was dead- my father and uncle drove to Trenton which is 1hr away and got a brand new one from the factory- the CSX AC6000 engine you see now
@Southerntreatment hey thanks for the kind words, this thing is on its way to Maryland. We bothers me the most the same service center burns me twice. I never knew why they didn't send it back to the factory in the first place.
@Railfan108 Thanks man, I am hoping MTH will get this resolved soon. What is the killer is that an Authorized Service Center would do such crappy work.
What you can do is send it back to MTH. The warrenty will cover the shipping and repairs. You get good results from them. It might take some time but I have had about 90% success with them. (One engine came back with a blown DCS board)
@MTHTrainFanatic , thanks for your help. This engine is on its way to MTH. Unfortunately it should of never left the factory. I'll be patient of not I got the Better Business Bureau or the Attorney Generals office that loves to handle this.
