Question: Why do people work so hard on this??? To see the end result of realistic water flowing? Because it seems like an awful lot of work for something sooo... (for lack of better words) useless...
Well, you are right. I had to sit countless hours in front of computer and make all these calculations, because obviously it's impossible to run these simulations in background. I thought that exploring new software and learning to use is something interesting, but well, you proved me wrong. I did it so maybe people like you would think I'm as awesome as they are. Well I failed. Now I have no purpose in life. Damn.
@Currypl I apologize, maybe I was too forward. I did not mean to insult you, I simply wanted to know the motivations behind these videos. School project or maybe part of a larger project? Because as nice as it looks, it looks like alot of work for not much reward... Unless you really enjoy the labor. Again I am sorry. :(
Because simulating realistic fluid takes forever and is "not" possible in realtime. I think perhaps GPUs could do it realtime, but they're busy doing graphics.. :P
@Martinnj90 hey i have a very good idea one graphics card for simulating and andother for putting the picture up on the screen then you dont need a processor for physics cause the other graphics card does all of that work that would be cool wouldn't it?
@realflow100 The only system i know that currently devides SLI GPU's for physics and graphics are Nvidia PhysX, And it does not do water, and still the amount of RAM real water simulation takes is just staggering ):
I think any game company would implement realistic water physics if it was as 'simple' as just dedicating a GPU. :)
@Martinnj90 well you wouldnt need ram cause if you simply remove it thing would a extreamly lage bit faster and the cards ram was used instead of real ram and the only file on the computer was the ones to run your desktop not extra stsem 32 files that take up space only just the explorer.exe and the ..dlls to run explorer.exe then having a mouse then you would very happy and everything would be so fast cause it does not use a processor is uses a card and then simulating a million partilces in
I stand by my former statement, if it was that simple it would have been done, besides calculating a trillion particles is one thing, then comes meshing, light and rendering. Besides, as a game dev you cant count on everyone to have at least 2 GPU's available.
@realflow100 no, because people still can't afford a super computer...
Game devs are still bound to hardware boundaries, and they still struggle to implement multi-core optimization so i doubt they will make a physics solver that works over 200 cores on a GPU any time soon...
Real Flow is by far the best software for this. But you can also try Maya or Blender. They heve their own fluid systems.
As about tutorial? for what? everything you need to know about doing this is in this video. This video is itself a tutorial on how to create a wet map using this method.
Hey guys, is there any program out there thats relatively easy to use where I can do this sorta thing. I'm real intrested by CFD aka watching how fluids interact with solids of various shapes.
Awesome. Everything was perfect. The only thing that disappointed me was the fluid type. I KNOW that rendering refractive materials takes a long time but still...The only thing I would suggest adding is a few heavy-ish objects, and some light ones and simulate dynamics. That would look cool. Anyway, excellent job. 5/5 for sure.
A LOT! :) I dont remember exactly as I rendered it in parts and then join them and it was rendering inthe background. but it will be about 2-3 days for ALL renderings.
The best

Why don't they use water physics this good in video games? Will it be too much for the game?

Hi! I'm spanish, so, sorry for my english...xd
Well, the question:
you know what is the engineering that works with program like this, or similar, or related with special effects in general?
thanks, and sorry for my english.

omg NICE! I was going to say, how the hell did that take 2 to 3 days to render :S but then i watched the final render ;)
