  • If I had a dollar for every pixel in this video, I'd have one dollar.

  • I'd seen Mr Orbach a few times casually walking down 8th Ave in the Manhattan theatre district. He was as daper, elegant and handsome as he appeared on film. I miss him.

  • @UandMeKid I miss him, too. He was my favorite actor. He could act, sing, dance. He could do it all, a true multitalented entertainer.

  • @pucciniverdi777 So very true!

  • is soo weird seing a young jerry, he is one of those persons you'd believe he's always been old =P

  • Terrific! Thank you for posting. :)

  • I love how Jerry's Billy Flin had a touch of both Bing Crosby and Jimmy Durante.

  • Wow. He was simply incredible.

  • He was so talented, movies, tv, stage, he did it all. rip

  • Wow. I liked Richard Gere's rendition, but NOTHING compares to the original. I love myself some Jerry Orbach. :)

  • wow, what a great voice

  • Does any one know where I can find a really great backing track to I Know a Girl and When Velma Takes the Stand???? We need them for our production!!

  • Phenomenal. He just made it all look as easy and natural as breathing.

  • Holy crap. This took my breath away. Absolutely amazing.

  • :-) LOVE IT!!

  • :-)

  • I watched West End's performance if Chicago a few months ago... kind of disappointed that the guy playing Billy didn't strip hah.

  • AMAZING! i didn't realise the choree we did in the recent Chicago was the original choree.

  • Gere was good in the film, but this is insanely awesome.

  • = O whoa this is great

  • He sounds EXACTLY like an old crooner. What a performer.

  • Jerry Orbach sang "She likes Basketball" on Braodway in "Promises, Promises" The CD is availble.

  • I wish he would have sung this on "Law and Order"

  • Please answer this for me, I am a Broadway fan but not much show knowledge here. Did he ever sing a song called "Basketball" or "She Likes Basketball". I saw the bit on a Broadway compliation on PBS. I wish Youtube had it.

  • Wow! He was good. I wonder why he never got to play Billy in the revival.

  • because hes like 70 something lmao....i actually just saw it yesterday with Bret Barret and he was fantastic

  • @HEYJoeSergio I saw Barrett as well, and I agree. The color of his voice took some getting used to, just because I'm not accustomed to hearing a tenor in the role, but his rendition of Razzle Dazzle sold it for me. I thought he was fantastic too.

  • first of all, he was in Law and Order when the revival came out. secondly, Orbach died in '04 and the revival is still going strong (to my knowledge).

  • I loved how Jesse L. Martin sang "Razzle Dazzle" as part of the tribute to Jerry Orbach at the Tony's the year Orbach passed away. I wish the Orbach performance of that was online. I thought Gere was ok, but I'm not a big fan of his, so that colors my perception too.

  • Miss you Jerry xo cheryl

The Women In This Number: Pam Sousa, Sandra Brewer, Karen "Geneva" Burke, Michon Peacock, Fern Fitzgerald, and Cheryl Clark

  • @CassieClark3 Where was Graciela Daniele? Did she leave the show by then? I know she was one of the assistants on the show (I believe she was the Dance Captain, if I'm not mistaken!).

  • @BwayBabyCA HI! SORRY FOR LARGE PRINT- I HAD SOME EYE SURGERY! YES, GRAZIELA AND CHARLENE RYAN (GO TO HELL KITTY) HAD BOTH LEFT BEFORE WE DID THE TONYS- SANDY BREWER REPLACED GRAZIE, AND FERN FITZGERALD REPLACED CHARLENE. OH! AND CANDY BROWN HAD LEFT TOO, THUS, KAREN BURKE REPLACED CANDY- SHE GOES BY GENEVA NOW! LOVE! CHERYL CLARK "POP" ORIGINAL XO

  • I had no idea how good his singing was! What an act!

  • His other great performance here on YouTube was from 42nd Street- "The Lullaby of Broadway". Jerry was something!

  • God, Jerry was so amazing!!

  • Wow! They wore less on stage back then than they do now! That's suprizing. Had never had the chance to hear/see this before. Thank you for uploading this.

  • now there's a surprise. he could sing!

  • I love Richard Gere's version too. Duno why so many here picked on him.

  • He's so young here! Fabulous!

  • He's great!! I like Gere's version too... it's odd for me to like more than one performance of a character but they are both great!

  • Jerry Orbach was simply a master of the arts

  • ok, I've listened to the Richard Gere version of it... DO NOT WANT!!! Seriously, he's so nasal, and he sounds like he's so bored!

*whimper* I'm now going to watch this vid until I get Gere's voice out of my head...

  • @90geekgirl06 I know right..Richard Gere, as charming as he may seem, can't sing well. If they are going to get someone with a mediocre voice, at least get George Clooney, he oozes charm even more.

I always thought Richard Gere was a miscast in Chicago..it is a flawless film, one of my favourite musicals and movies, and it deserves the Best Picture win. However I wish Richard Gere wasn't casted.

  • He is wonderful :)

  • omg, Jerry Orbach stripping on stage... *brain melt*

I love this song! His voice is AMAZING!

  • What a great video!!

  • Happy Birthday Jerry Orbach :)

  • was there ever more charm, scum, cheese silk, and talent? love it

  • As far as i'm concerned, Richard gere comes no where close to a performance of this caliber. Orbach is the definitive Billy Flynn

  • Incredible. We miss you Jerry Orbach.

  • I was also too young to see Jerry Orbach on stage. Damn!

  • I like the little Gershwin-esque flourish right at the end.

  • There's a dvd called Broadway's Lost Treasures (Vol II) that has this. I got it from my library, or Amazon has it. What a talent, song, dance, acting - he did it all. (Also my favorite character on L&O).

  • no one compares to the original

  • Wow.

  • I don't know how many versions I've seen of Chicago but no one could do Billy Flynn like Orbach!!!

  • @norm58 You are sooo right. I just wish I had a video of Razzle Dazzle -- no one could do it like he did. I saw it somewhere once, but don't know where. He was truly one of the great performers!

  • God Bless Jerry Orbach, I am so sad he has passed away. I was too young to see him on Broadway, thanks to you I can see him in his prime on the big stage, and I love it!

  • Thank you for posting this. It is an absolute classic. I wish I could fins more jerry Orbach numbers from Chicago.

  • HE WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

  • WOW. That's something amazing right there - thanks for posting this!

  • Ahhh, the original Show. The things I would do, to see it!

  • The best Billy EVER!!! James Naughton was good, too though. But I can't stand the sound of Richard Gere's voice! It's all nasally! Blecccchhhh! Now THIS is the real star!

  • OMG! I miss Jerry Orbach! Thank you for allowing this glimpse into the Broadway past. Thank you! Thank you!

  • i miss jerry orbach being on this earth.

he was such a wonderful man.

    <3333333333

    RIP Jerry

  • We definitely lost a legend

  • omg. is that really him?? so young. crazy sauce.

  • Ooh we're performing our Chicago the musical in a week. Doing this dance with pink fans too!

  • Great, great, great. What Broadway used to be but no longer is, sadly.

  • shit that was good

  • The authenticity and original form is incredible!!

  • love him love him love him

  • Jerry Orbach should have reprised his role as Lumiere in the Broadway version of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast"!

  • Bravo, Jerry!

  • Gorgeous performance -- he still has it all! Too bad they didn't make the movie at this time and put him in it. Richard Gere, eat your heart out!

  • thanks. i love the chicago obc!!!

  • Damn he's good. One of my favorite numbers, and one of my favorite actors.

  • Jerry Orbach is AWESOME but it would of been better if they had Gwen or Chita

  • He is a legend and will never be duplicated. Mr. Orbach is one of kind. Great Actor.

  • Ditto.

  • God, I miss this guy.

  • me too.

  • holy chomba lomba he was HOT! And he's in his underwear! LOL!

  • By the way if anyone happens to have the 1991 Oscar Awards performance of Be Our Guest by Jerry I would be eternally grateful if you uploaded it!

  • Wow. Holy Shite--

    How sexy was he?

I would have been done for if I had been there....I was um about 5 or 6 that year *L*

  • RIP, Jerry...we love and miss you always.

  • Jerry Orbach is the MAN.

  • Man, I've seen Jerry in Law and Order, and I didn't recoginize him at first. Anyone know where to get the version with Jesse L. Martin (at the Tony's in remembrance of Jerry)??

  • Totally different kind of billy flynn from the ones you see bein played these days...but still great

  • but still? he was the best, he knew how he was suppose to be portrayed from the writers. and no one does it like this anymore.

  • gosh... Jerry is SO freaking talented... I miss him... ;_;

  • Who is that introducing him? is that Jane Fonda

  • Yup .. let's hear it for helmet hair

  • Such a voice. I miss him on L&O.

  • Oh my. I never saw Jerry younger than he was in Dirty dancing. So to see him then was nice. He was so talented. I miss him so much. God rest his soul

  • This production of "Chicago" never got the recognition it deserves. Jerry Orbach was great.
