Fitting a turbo onto an engine like this isn't exactly cheap and easy. You need to get all the parts first.

IC, turbocharger, aftermarket ECU, Vanos delete, rising rate FPR, uprated fuel pump, bigger injectors, forged pistons and rods, piston rings, stronger studs, bearing shells, exhaust manifold and intake plenum and a decent exhaust system. I would also reccomend a BOV. If you are going for an external wastegate setup, then you will also need a w/gate.

I'd personally prefer to get rid of Vanos on an M50 because it is notoriously troublesome. Plus, with all that power, I wouldn't want valves hitting pistons if something does go wrong. Also, aftermarket EMS aren't exactly compatible with Vanos - I hear the top of the range MoTecs are, but even then, it adds unnecessary complexity.

I bet this thing is running an M50B25, not an M50TU-B25 (Vanos).

@1984BMWpower If you want to blow up your engine, then sure... Try running 400 HP with forced induction and a stock bottom end, then get back to me.

If you are running turbo, you need lower compression - otherwise the engine will detonate. Also, the bearing shells in the M50TU are shit. Very easy to spin one.

@1984BMWpower Depends how cool the engine runs, the quality of the fuel used and how much fuel it is getting. My car runs 11 PSI with 400cc injectors, a huge front mount and 8.5:1 compression (on 98 RON pump gas). It pings like a bitch when it is hot (over 25 degrees Celsius). Injectors are maxed at 11 PSI too.

With 10.5:1 compression, an M50TU would shit a rod in those conditions.

@1984BMWpower M50TU is the later version of the M50 that comes with VANOS.

Retarding timing won't do much if the engine is pinging before each piston reaches TDC. Personally, I would only go up to 4psi max on stock internals, but good luck to you.

BTW, those stock M50's boosting at 19 PSI would probably be running AvGas or some other high octane fuel. The higher the octane rating, the less likely the fuel is to detonate - even at high compression ratios.

@E30323i If I were to turbo, I'd go non VANOS too. Finding a non VANOS M50 is pretty hard these days though, as there aren't many E34's around - especially 525i's. You can always get a VANOS delete, but thats more cash.

well my car is in good shape and it has almost everything like M/// does ,but the engine :) iv changed inlet manifold m52/m50, tubular exhaust manifold like M3(eu)has and gave it whole M3 3.2 exhaust system but nothing significant ,i mean difference is noticeable(30 hp gain) but 200 hp isnt much in our days you know :) so my problem is POWER :( what would you recommend man
