I just had an epiphany due to the copyright tag on the video.. You guys videotape the scene of crimes and then sell them off to the mass media for reuse? Capitalizing on murder..I love america
Under fair use, any media organization can use video uploaded to an online medium like YouTube without purchasing if they feel their useon air or online is for educational or informative value. A better idea would be to upload only the first fifteen or thirty seconds, instead of the whole video, and to move the notice to a place where it wouldn't be obscurred by a lower-third computer graphic.
Very true and if I were to find out that that had occurred it would severely compromise my working relationship with said media organization and that organizations ability to use video shot my myself in the future and cause all my videos to be removed from YouTube.
I post video to YouTube as a way of fulfilling my obligation as a journalist to inform the public and miss use of my video by a commercial media organization would cause the loss of the public's ability to be informed of things that occur in the community that may not have been covered by a commercial media organization.
How is it misuse? Fair use is not misuse, that's why it's called "fair use." It may not be how you'd like your video to be used, but that's why I offered a solution. I highly doubt "misuse" would stifle your efforts to receive a paycheck by any media organization, it would just mean you solicit your video in a different way.
The misuse I refer to is the misuse of the way I intend the video to be used. I agree with you that the video can be used under fair use that's why I said "very true". I appreciate the offer of solutions and will use them in the future, thank you for your help. I am also working on a new way of soliciting and distributing my video and hope to have it operational soon.
