when i went to fullsail university they broke it down. The band makes about 50cents per CD or less, and live shows is where they make their money. Fewer hands in the money pot at live gigs. I don't think that a music school (media school really, but had a music program) would lie about that. Plus it just makes sense if you break down percentages of who gets what out of a cd compared to tickets and sponsors at live gigs

Everyone downloads music sometimes. If I bought all the music I listen to, I'd be broke. I usually download a lot of albums and if any of them really stand out to me, I'll go buy them. I would get so tired of only listening to the albums that I have bought on my iPod. I have bought every album by Rise Against though.

I prefer to go to their gigs - for which they get alot more money.

So we've gone through a golden period and now everyone thinks that bands should be aloud to make their money without people downloading their music for free, but its money (as a driving force) that is ruining the music industry and music.

bands should be willing to play for their love of music... there are plenty of independent bands out there that do make their money buy touring, stick that in your pipe and smoke it ninjabrocly, you're figures are wrong and subjective. Stop supporting the music industry completely, download all your music, and maybe the DIY ethic will return along with an actual love for music. I used to be in a band and we never made more then what was just enough to drink that night, but we loved doing it.
