  • I still don't understand what is happening when you edge tech, the wall and ground ones make sense. What exactly do you have to do and why does it grant you those invincibility frames?

  • Up-B out of shield is super easy? great I can't wait to use that technique with my main...oh wait, I use jiggs.

  • I have a question about wall jump edge and wall-teching. When I'm moving towards the wall/edge, would I have to press the L input and the upwards DI at the same time, or would I press L at the tech timing, and then the upwards DI after, as I hit the wall?

  • @SC2V

You DI into the wall and tech that as you have to have the wall to tech a move.

  • @GCLU But when I want do the wall jump, I need to press up on the directional stick and L at the same time, or after the teching animation. What I'm asking is do I press up+L at the same time, or do I press L and then after that, up on the control stick?

  • Poor Mewtwo... He got pwnd by Marth and Pichu...

  • lol 41 ppl think brawl is good

  • So grab should be performed by pressing A+R/L instead of Z right?

  • noticed you sweetspotted marth's out of shield up "b"

  • I learned to tech by accident xD

  • can you just use the c-stick up smash out of a shield? or it has to be with the analog stick?

  • @zRawki Assuming you powershield it, yes.

  • Thanks for theese videos, I'm trying to get better at this game.

When I was a kid I used to be really good.

Completed the game 3 times ( well I never unlocked the 64 stages D: )

And I used to be able to beat 3 level 9's on a team.

And Now I suck at this game.

  • O.o

Wak017, Your dolphin slash to the mewtwo out of shield, you did the reverse and the normal at the same time? HOW THE HECK YOU DID THIS O.o

  • @juiey2 you just push up-b and then slightly backwards rather quickly.

  • @RockLobsta23

Genious, i heard that the knockback was greater

  • @juiey2 indeed it is. Oftentimes used as a good killing move on characters that just recovered and landed on the stage, or a jiggs that has missed a rest.

  • @RockLobsta23

    True, thank you

  • Is the timing for upsmashing out of shield the exact same for every character or is it slightly differently for every character because each character has a different number of frames for their jump?

  • How do you usmash out of shield without using the c-stick?

The video says "Since you can jump out of the shield, if you press up A or B while you're still standing on the ground, you will perform your up smash or B."

Well I can't figure out how to do it this way. The way I learned was to do Up on the control stick and up on the C-stick at the same time.

    Any help?

  • This is a very edgucational video. thanks !

  • Wombo combo?

  • i do all this shit and didnt know what tech names i was using :) btw my character is fox ;)

  • should i be trying to edgehop and edge waveland with marth, even though his double jump barely gets him back on the stage?

  • can you shine out of shield?

  • @jkim519 technically, you need to jump out of shield, then you can shine. Even though, there is one frame during the jump animation that any character is still on the ground but it's aerial attack can be triggered. So, you can jump out of shield and would have one frame where you can shine and you are on the ground.

In a missed situation, you do not shine at all, or you shine in the air, which is also acceptable because your opponent will probably hit the shine anyway.

  • @jkim519 I do it by jump canceling the shield with the c-stick and immediatly pressing down+B.

I flick the c-stick upward with the joint of my thumb, and the B button with the tip.

  • This video series really helps. I recently picked up melee again. Play alot against friends, but not at high level. Just as far as you'd get without the advanced techniques. So we're kinda stuck at a certain level. This will help bring in new challenges.

  • I hate assholes that edgehog >>

Great videos by the way! :D

  • @Thedarkside02 in our house there were "rules" and number one was air combo all you want, but you gotta give them a chance to make it back if they go off to the sides. there were too many times my brothers and friends got really pissed cuz they had no chance to even fight because of edge hogging.

  • Please make part 3 and 4. I'm learning all these techniques currently and I need to know what else there is that you can do.

  • Is it possible to tech the invisible ceiling glitch? And if so, does it count as a normal tech, except reversed(in a sense), or does it count as a wall tech? If it does count as a wall tech, is it possible to wall jump off the invisible ceiling glitch?

  • Wak, Part 3 of the video can't be viewed in Germany (and some other countries I guess) anymore due to copyright. Is there a place where I can download Part 3 or this videos in general?

  • Can someone help me? I can't get the part where he was Captain Falcon and right before the Ice Climbers hit him, he did a wall jump

  • @MrMamaMario

it's really difficult to time at first, just keep practicing. it's just a ledge tech while holding up on the analog stick, which makes (some) characters wall jump after the ledge tech.

if you're having trouble with the ledge tech altogether, just imagine the ledge as the ground and time the tech accordingly. at least that's what i do.

  • @RSIWuzHacked Can you be more specific?

  • @MrMamaMario

he didn't wall jump before the ice climbers hit him, he got hit and tech'ed the side of the stage. to practice, pick falco and go to break the targets. on the left side there's two parts of the wall with electricity, Side-B or Up-B towards one of the electricity barriers, and press R/L to tech the hit. you'll know if you teched the hit because falco will seem to "absorb" the hit (like CF at 4:19). Similarly if you tech the hit WHILE HOLDING UP on the ctrl stick, you will wall tech.

  • @RSIWuzHacked No look at 4:29. I want to know how to do THAT

  • @MrMamaMario

I already said it, hold the analog stick UP while doing 4:19, and you'll do 4:29.

  • Teching takes tons of practice. Luckily, I think you could do it in ssb64 so I always practiced since then and I could do it since melee came out.

  • Don't shield grab shffling spacies :)

  • what does "away" mean? at 6:10 ? because I cant think of any "away" other than down

  • @HawtKimchi

Aways means opposite direction of the ledge.

oe, @ 6:10 you would move your control stick left.

  • Yo Wak, about that part of the Usmash out of the shield, u can perform it easier by instead of using A button, using C stick up, is quicker and easier to learn, actually u dun even need to release ur R/L button to perform it ... Just trying to help a bit ^^''

  • @KusakaKyo

Isn't it hard to go from X/Y -> Cstick that fast?

  • @RSIWuzHacked

You can use the Directional Stick too. That way you put one thumb on each stick.

  • @AllOfUsLoveSpam

I can't seem to grasp Upsmash out of shield...

X-> DirectionalStickUp+A either sends me to a shield grab or UAir.

  • @RSIWuzHacked

    Hold R.

Quickly tap the Dstick up, let go.

    Let go of R.

While character is still on ground, press A.

    or

    Hold R.

    Tap Dstick up.

    Let go of R.

    Tap Cstick up.

  • @AllOfUsLoveSpam this technique works wonders for me :D.

The C-Stick method is soo simple and easy to use.

  • Comment removed

  • @RSIWuzHacked

You don´t use X or Y at all in this technique!

  • @RSIWuzHacked nope, instead of usin x/y to jump u use ur joystick and to perform Usmash u use Up C belive me its easier to do thatway =D and u dun need to release R/L

  • great vids...although i think this should be part 1. all much easier to do than the SHFFLC stuff

  • Excellent video! Expert advice! You should upload your video to Ewisdomtv

  • When you talk about pressing "away", which button is "away?"

  • I'm just guessing, but I'm fairly sure it means backwards from the direction your character is currently facing. (on the control stick)

  • Okay, found the part that you were mentioning. Away (for edgehop) is pressing the direction away from the stage (If you're on the right edge of the stage, hanging on, you press the control stick right and you will release the edge.)

  • @xThePunisher21x The opposite way your character is facing. So if you're facing left it's right, if you're facing right its left.

  • i cannot dowload the video, it says that the video is missed or it doesn't exist..please if someone could do some it will be nice!! Atte. HG

  • thanks for making these, wak

  • can anyone show me hot to knee from the ledge with cf

  • funny, shield grabbing is kind of obsolete now, with the c-stick you can retreat as you do your aerial and keep from getting grabbed. see Darkrain vs Kage, neither of them get shield grabbed

  • 2:57, it is possible i do it all the time.....

  • IN FLAMES 5:00 <3333

  • hey between about 4:48 and 5:15 the music sounds like a dbz song. does anyone know the name of it?

  • The song is In Flames - Man Made God

  • Comment removed

  • theres 1337 ratings right now.

  • Does tech work if I push L rapidly?

  • I don't think so I think there is a 20 frame window that you can do it in (that's about 1/3 of a second I think) and then you have 40 frames that you won't be able to do a tech again (2/3 of a second).

  • arent there 31 frames in a second?

  • No.

  • are you sure you have to release the shield button to do Usmash Out-of-Shield? I was under the impression the jump OoS automatically cancelled the shield, and the Usmash cancelled the jump

  • Infected mushroom

    =)

  • 5:50

a self destruct not an... just sayin

  • there are waaaay more grammar mistakes in these vids

  • I've seen AlphaZealot play and he's good, that explains the excellent tips. =D

  • Comment removed

  • Odds are you do relative to "most pros". These techniques give players a HUGE advantage and make up for a lot of character specific shortcomings.

  • I don't suck and I never will just make sure your game is tight

  • I've already mastered the wavedash...

  • hey,why advanced htp 3 doesnt appear available to my country? i clicked the link and it says so T_T

  • fucking shit... that happened to me too! i want to see the part 3 T_T

  • Hey Wak, could you make part 3 available to other countries?

  • Comment removed

  • Edge Hogging is really useful on short stages

  • lol i just saw these vids like an hour ago and i still cant get wavedashing down, so confusing. and no one i know knows how so i cant learn from them.

  • Just try over and over. Practice makes perfect bro.

  • Just remember three things.

    First, press the jump button.

Second, press the control stick diagonally down.

Third and as soon as possible after #2, press L/R FULLY.

Do it some times in training mode at 1/4-1/2 speed to know how it should look, but only practice it at normal speed. It takes very long until you can incorporate it into your real gameplay, don't worry about that.

  • You don't have to press L/R fully, the game can tell if you push it or not by a little tap, I can L cancel and WD by tapping it lightly, like, halfway in.

  • Yes you have. Wavedash is only possible due to air dodge. To airdodge, you have to push it until it clicks (at least for me and all the people I know).

  • Oh, I think it MAY be because we have different controllers. I Have a gamestop controller and the L and R triggers are bulky.

  • Try using an official one. They are much much easier for fast button combinations.

  • that's a technique to speed up your reflexes and reaction time even moreso in the heat of battle. soft l / r

  • wow... Haven't used these skills in over a year. I won't dare to try them because Brawl sorta made me forget them. Only ones I remembered was teching, shuffling, and edgehopping.

  • yeah, brawl does that.

that's why i never play it; takes no skill at all

  • true to that man

  • sick, didnt know that if u tap away when edge guarding u fall slower

  • You got them off the stage and forced them to try and grab the edge. The game encourages you to stop them from returning by any means.

  • this is realy good. you probably should have added somewhere in ur videos some part on grab canceling like when u wanna block someone from grabbing u and stuff and maybe a few recovery techniques that some special characters have like marth, mario, jiglipuff, etc.

  • Every time i try to download this video i keep getting errors. Ive tried multiple websties and i think its the video. Halp Plz

  • Just watch the stream off youtube imo.

  • I still suck at wavedash and L-cancel, even after knowing about it for a while now.

    :[

  • me too :[

  • A month is a while to improve, so I'm sure you got the hang of it by now. If you haven't, just keep trying; L-cancel is something that eventually becomes muscle reflex.

  • Thanks for the vid. I'm sure you just increased the pro population by like 300%. (i'm part of that 300% :P)

  • best melee vids ever

  • Thanks, I found this Video really useful and now I can really improve my Melee skills.

  • 5:47 "an Self Destruct" XD

  • become an hero!

  • Stfu with your /b/ nonsense.

  • Rules 1, and 2, newfag.

  • Lol what the fuck are you talking about?

A little bit late dont you think?

Idk what goes through a brain as slow as yours though.

Why are you even swearing at me?O_0

  • Only during raids.

    Idiot.

  • now the edge tech that was nice

  • This is a great video. The techniques are clearly explained so even a newbie can learn to play like a tournament caliber killer. With the propper practice of course...

  • dashizwiz is not the best.... atm i think its m2k , mango , and dashizwiz and there is alot of others that are really high up there with them

  • this is so nicely explained...but "resulting in an selfdestruct" is kinda wtf lol

  • blame AZ 8-)

  • it helps if you read "sef destruct" as ESS DEE(SD)^_^

  • dude! i gotta know the name of the first song!!!

    great vid, 5/5!

  • nvm i found it, if anyone is interested..

the track is called Bust a Move by Infected Mushrooms

  • Up smash out of shield also works with the C-Stick. If you hit up to jump, but C-Stick up before u leave the ground, you do it much faster. i forget if it works for other smash attacks, but i dont see why not...

  • will edge rolling work in brawl?

i dont think it does now but i dunno

  • rolling doesn't edgehog anymore, just like in ssb64. This means you need to get on the ledge at just the right time to edgehog some characters. other characters are impossible to edgehog anyways.

  • at 6:06, there is a typo. At the bottom, it says "resulting in an self-destruct" or something like that. It's "a", not "an".Glad to help

  • SWEET! I already knew about shield grabbing (I feel all fuzzy inside now)

  • ...

  • Teching has a real name ^.^ it's Ukewgo! On the smashdojo websites.

  • Teching is easier to remember than Ukewgo.

  • lmao soo true

  • Haha My brain hurts!

  • If people are wondering what the song is that starts at 4:48

The name of the song is "Man Made God" and the band's name is "In Flames"

  • is it working in ssbb???? (=^.^=)

  • whats the name of the song that starts at 4:48?

  • Just an add-on to the recovery unit: Most character's forward-B moves will give you a tiny boost and slow your fall. (Examples: Mario/Dr. Mario's cape, Pikachu/Luigi's ->/B attacks) But, DO NOT use Falco, Fox, Gannondorf or Capt. Falcon's forward B move unless you are well above ground, as this counts as a disable (You can't do anything else 'till you hit the ground).

    Hope it helped.

  • Please make AHTP for Brawl!

  • any chance someone could fill me in on which moves are changed for brawl?

wut do u do to l-cancel now?

  • You can't. Same goes for pretty much every other advanced technique.

  • srry to tell u but there aint L cancelling in brawl, there isnt wavedashin either WAVENOTHING except bounce which isnt that great i u can still short hop (aint a glitch duhhh) but yeah now u gotta be pro cuz of stuff thats in the game lol but ay i forced mysefl to learn how to wavedash and abuse falcos Bdown but only dd it cuz everyone who said they were good abused it so im gald now u can play normally brawl rocs <333

  • I still don't know how to use wavedash everytime I try it doesnt work.

  • by wavelanding does he mean wavedashing?? and i acctually knew about most of these before, and i didnt even know they were advance techniques. and i dont really get whats the point of waveshielding since wave dashing already gives you a couple frames of invincibility why do you need to shield as well

  • No, he means wavelanding. There are many kinds of wave techniques. And, BTW, no one cares if you already knew what the video instructs.

  • you seem to care cause ur the only one complaining about what i said

  • tuber, there's no invincibility in wavedashing if you're getting any distance out of it.

  • it says right in the vid for edge waveland

  • whoa i thought the shield was kinda useless!

  • Nice

  • i new how to tech with out knowing i was doing it its easy for me

  • Cause it's hard to do...advanced refers (probably) to things that are hard to master at once..it's not the same as knowing when to dodge or how best to attack.Get it?

  • because they are not mentionned in the how to play or playing manual,

plus these moves weren't ment to be used this way except for shielding + grab.

  • and except teching and wall jumps and all..

SHFFL and wavedashing is what i ment by it

  • i dont think they will even allow (especially that contentious grab and wavedashing) some of those moves in a tournament *the upcoming brawl tourney* but these r some great techniques to use for fun or stuff

  • Well for one they took out directional dodging in Brawl, so wavedashing is out. Other than that I don't think there are any limits on how you can play besides levels, items, and stock limits. At least not at the turnies i went to

  • ok thx! :) now i CAN enter lol!

  • Dam nice job the edge hog helped me XD

  • these techniques only good for slow process games....you do not have the time to think and act on these techniques...its all about instinct and just raw play.

  • Actually not really, when i first played (without the technical stuff) I had the mind games and beat some ppl that do technical stuff but now that i can do both i can actually win matches but im not sayin that im the best or anythin, i need to enter some community tourneys to find out if im really good or not

  • Thats just your style of play, but I never think about it when I do any of my techniques because its all muscle memory. And you can't argue with the fact that these techniques make you faster, because that is fact. You just need to know how to use your techniques, raw or not, effectively.

  • not realy u can use 75 percent of these in every battle

  • You know, just cuz u know technical stuff doesnt mean you'll be good, the person who has the mind games will win

  • Yeah, but 'technical stuff' contributes to mind games because it adds speed and trickery. But you're right, just knowing advanced techniques won't help you win a match. Instinctively using them will, though.

  • yea true that XD

  • Fantastic!! I really like how professional looks this style of fightning.! I learn new techniques also.
