In Round 3, between 2:32 and 2:34.5 there is not so much fire "emanating from Peach", but Mario is running around as if there was at least 2 fireballs being sent after him.

1. Mario is teasing Peach

2. Mario is panicking

3. Mario is very determined to thwart Peach and is nervous and therefore jittery

I did however, find it funny in Round 1, that Mario kept ramming Peach head-on with no letup until he passed out. I know the enclosing Bowser head black-out is standard for Mario 64, but it was even so extra humorous in this instance. xD —was nice..
