There is no such thing as 1 notebook being better than other. It comes down to what you need from it. If you like gaming, Hp envy 17 is by far better than apple. If you need battery life,apple is the better choice. For me, I like HP because I watch alot of entertainment,plus if your going to buy a 17 inch your probably not going to carry it around that much. So what did we learn today children,lol.the better notebook is the one that gives you what you need.

I must say, it's quite impressive. But still, it was still based on the Macbook design. It's a shame that they didn't fit a dvd drive for a laptop that thick. If it was thick as the Air, then it's probably acceptable.

The HP Envy looks really nice, it really does and I commend HP for stepping up the bar. That battery slice attachment that adds 18 hours of battery life is insane and it fits so nicely! My only issue is still the price. Yes it is a great looking machine but if i'm going to spend over 1,000 bucks for a laptop I would be looking at a Macbook at the same price. Just my two cents. Not really. Yeah, 18 hours is awesome, but you need to attach an external battery to the bottom to get that. Not to mention the Envy 13's base model is only 1.6GHz with a battery life of 6.5 hours, where the base model of the 13" Macbook Pro gets 10 hours of battery life with a processor speed of 2.4GHz. The 13" envy and the 13" Macbook Pro base models are the same price at $1200, but the Macbook Pro has much better specs. Check them out for yourself if you don't believe me.

How is OSX a deterrent? OSX is an amazing operating system with little to no flaws. There are far less crashes and errors with it than any Windows OS to date. Apple manufactures more successful devices than any other company as well. Finally the MacBook has a worthy competitor and that battery slice is genious lol.. At least now apple has a reason to make the macs even better lol i like my pc though :(

This thing looks like a piece of shit ripoff of the MacBook Pro. I own a 13" MacBook Pro that I paid $1000 even for with better specs and a MUCH better INTERNAL battery (nice solution, HP...)

Not really. Yeah, 18 hours is awesome, but you need to attach an external battery to the bottom to get that. Not to mention the Envy 13's base model is only 1.6GHz with a battery life of 6.5 hours, where the base model of the 13" Macbook Pro gets 10 hours of battery life with a processor speed of 2.4GHz. The 13" envy and the 13" Macbook Pro base models are the same price at $1200, but the Macbook Pro has much better specs. Check them out for yourself if you don't believe me.

How is OSX a deterrent? OSX is an amazing operating system with little to no flaws. There are far less crashes and errors with it than any Windows OS to date. Apple manufactures more successful devices than any other company as well. I'm not sure who crapped in your cornflakes, but the main thing you should hate here is the overpricing of this Macbook ripoff. ;)
If Apple is such a "deterrent", then why does almost every company try to be like them and use the same unique features?

Looks like macbook and even this ad made in Steve Jobs style - trying to show that its much better than other laptops, but its not!
Casing does not cost that much, totally overpriced like Apple products.

This looks cool... I would have bought this instead of a macbook only this wasn't out at the time. I am very pleased with my Macbook but I didn't really want to switch from windows. Turns out the Mac os is fantastic (though it won't run autocad) but I'm almost ashamed to use my mac... I'm afraid people automatically put me in a prius/starbucks category. This is why I bought a ZEN instead of an IPOD. I'm in the process of making a native indian style leather cover for my mac to hide its identity

This is just a scam, copy of the Macbook Pro. It's obvious..the look and and design of this..HP really cant think of nothing else but to just copy other designs? They're really cheap by doing this and they even use a term -
"ENVY" in which means:
"a feeling of grudging admiration and desire to have something that is possessed by another"
So they even use a term that describes "Macbook Pro..hmm lets make a PC version of this". FAIL. Good job idiots, definitely not worth $1, 299.

I've seen a few TV adverts for the Envy recently. I originally thought they where yet more Macbook Air adverts, until I finally noticed and read the final captions at the end.
BTW I wouldn't have either. Underpowered and very expensive executive toys IMO.

Then on the 7th day the Macfags commeth, trolling, trying endlessly in vein to justify there purchase of an overly priced peice of shiney tinfoil.
Apart from the fact that ethstetically the notebook doesn't look much like a Mac at all (The glass screen and chicklet keyboard where not Apple's invention boys and girls), the device packs a greater punch in terms of hardware, and the OS it is running is nothing short of superb.

Daaang i7 processor on a laptop. that is quad core and its 20-30 percent faster than a regular quad core. Bad ass laptop :)
