I think she tells him to think of her when he is in a foreign land because she cannot go with him because she is still bond to her father and I am guessing that if he is let go he will have to leave for one reason or another. Still unclear about the "quit the land" part though.

Does anyone have a description of what actually happens in this song? I get that the judge put it to the girl to say if Jamie was guilty or not, and that she and her father argued about this in front of him... But what I don't understand is a)Why does the Father saying he will quit the land act as a threat? and b) It sounds like in the last verse she frees Jamie but doesn't go with him and takes back all her jewelry except for one token he is to keep on his right hand. Is this all correct?
