  • This is the best review i've seen you do so far, very accurate and honest review

  • I'm just gonna say that this is one of my favourite albums ever. And I totally get where you're coming from, but really I see so few flaws in this album. I haven't grown tired of it yet and it has been my go-to album ever since it came out, but maybe it's just because I'm an 18 year old who likes corny, whiny and sort-of angry music. who knows.

  • i know they both came out in 2011, but please review shed by title fight and parrot flies by algernon cadwallader. two albums i really enjoy and i'd love to hear your opinion

  • 8.5, because I'm a whiny angry teenager in the body of a 25 year old.

  • I fucking love this album. It made me cry the first time I listened to it.

  • DEFEATER DEFEATER DEFEATER

  • Great album. Reminds me so much of In Pieces, whom I also love

  • if you do touche amore, la dispute, and pianos become the the teeth mine as well do the other 2 which is defeater and make do and mend

  • im pretty sure that the name is touché amoré not touche amore

  • dude wtf you didnt even say the name right?

  • i love this album 10/10

  • I found this album to be extremely honest and emotional. One of my favorite records of 2011. Definitely.

  • I love this album so so so much, easily my album of 2011. I love the lyrics, I love the vocals and I love all the tracks.

    /fanboy

  • Hey Antony, Recently got into La Dispute due to one of your reviews, then discovered these guys through them, great stuff. Wondering is there are any post-hardcore/melodic hardcore albums that you'd strongly recommend?

Also, do you like Devil Sold His Soul, if so then cool.

  • Review empty days and sleepless nights by defeater

  • please do a reveiw of La Dispute's new album wildfire

  • Stumbled across this video simply because of Touche Amore, only to find one of the most interesting, explanatory and genuine reviewers on youtube. Brilliant work sir!

  • YESSSS.

Today I was watching your videos and I was like, damn, I wish he did a review on Parting the Sea Between Brightness and me and alas, HERE IT IS

    score.

  • i love this band now, really reminds me of the sound my band are hitting

  • Do Empty Days and Sleepless Nights by Defeater!

  • @scumwillrise Favourite album of all time!

  • @scumwillrise YESSSSSSSS

  • I saw them at a basement show, I was up-front. Best day ever.

  • I strongly disagree that the album needs more harmonies. If it had more harmonies, it would lose that magic effect which this band has of keeping the melodies very sparse and then proceeding to bring in a melodic hook or line to create a very cathartic moment within the song at only the most precise and necessary instance.

  • personally i loved this album. and PLEASE review La Dispute's album "Wildlife" which comes out October 4. it is amazing melodic hardcore with great vocals

  • I agree, this album sometimes is really great, but also I grow weary of the stalemate vocals.

Please please review anything by La Dispute. They're the only melodic hardcore band I truly love. They have one LP which is phenomenal and they have a new one coming out October 4th.

  • Review Cleric - Regressions!

  • @theneedledrop you're spot on about how you think they play. they've actually been on tour pretty much continuously for about two years with something like one-week breaks in between. a good part of their shows are basement shows and everyone who attends always sings all the words. it's an amazing thing to see them play, you should do it.

  • You need to do a La Dispute cover. :) please?

  • @jacobrosskleinberg YES. LA FRIGGIN DISPUTE. I agree :D

  • Touche Amores music makes me feel like i'm understood and that they and other people have the same thoughts and views as i do and it makes me feel better. It makes me feel like i belong. Their music is everything to me and i love Jeremy's voice and i can see the differences in his voice in every song and i like that its just him i like that their are no harmonies because otherwise the songs wouldn't be as powerful. I don't know lol that's just what i think.

  • I think the album is fucking awesome.

  • i sent pitchfork an email telling them to review this and they totally shit on me

  • Touche amore is just amazing they are the most honest band and unique, their sound is epic and they are not POST-HARDCORE...i love this band and i will always support them

  • REVIEW THE HOLLOW BY MEMPHIS MAY FIRE.

i guarantee you will have nothing bad to say about it.

    do it i dare you.

  • learn to pronounce a band's name before you review their album.

  • @bigkdeezy yo, does it really matter?

  • only if you want to look professional and prepared. @MrSplatterPlatter

  • @bigkdeezy um...so everything else he says is pretty much null and void just because of a simple mispronunciation? I don't pronounce the band's name that way, alot of my friends don't either. Get your head out of your ass.

  • as if the accent on the end of amore wasn't a dead giveaway (do you know what an accent is, have you ever heard of an aigu?), before every live performance they say their name (the correct way). you're pronouncing a band's name wrong on purpose. you're an idiot. @MrSplatterPlatter

  • @bigkdeezy better to be an "idiot" by your tight definitions than a pretentious, piece of shit asshole like you. Grow the fuck up, it's a fucking band name, it's not the end of the goddamned world. Literally no one cares how you pronounce it but you, so just go the fuck away.

  • @bigkdeezy that's how i would have pronounced. stop being a dick.

  • review the " the weekend" record

  • Are your glasses prescription, or are they just for looks.

  • A 10. Sick Ass LP.

  • @PowerUpComms Right on.

  • I'd have to say for myself, that I personally enjoyed this album. I was just recently on a Two Door Cinema/Black Kids music binge and was recommend I listen to Pianos Become The Teeth, which led me to Touche Amore. Personally, I love the lead singers screams and guitar parts. Although, I'd actually stick with Bear Vs Shark for my emotional post hardcore stuff anyday of the week.

  • I love how he does the same movement with his hands ALL the time.

  • If you're willing to review another Post-Hardcore album, then i suggest:

    Fake History - Letlive.

  • do you get high when you listen to music in preparation for music,,casue when you review music it sounds like you can "feel" the music

  • ok. i'm really high and that whispering at the end freaked me out.

  • Damn Fantano, you sound a bit sick in this review. Get some Ginger Lemon tea and Get sum rest you crazy rockin roll junkie!!! LOL

  • Not for some people, beautiful to others.

  • If you like this you should listen to Defeater - Empty days & Sleepless nights

    Its a very emotional album

  • The lyrics on their freshman album "dead horse" are better. They continue that epicly encouraging anthem-like theme but are not as trite. The lyrics on this album seem forced. Unfortunately, the "dead horse" production isn't as good but I appreciate their collection so much more for it. I'm a big fan of these guys. They are very dedicated to putting on an intimate show and all members are great musicians.

  • two-shay-a-more

    favourite album of the year

    genre- emotional hardcore

  • =[ reviewed between brightness and me, but not the new between the buried and me

  • stupid hipster

  • you should review parrot files by algernon cadwallader

  • Comment removed

  • @bigbluehifi <---- knows what's up.

  • @crassisdead it would be the first algernon review on youtube EVER~~~

come on anthony, take the title!

  • @bigbluehifi Yeah, I'd really like to hear what he thinks of the new album, even if he's never heard them before.

  • Anthony, I do want you to give your view on today's hip hop, pros and cons, why you like it, why you don't, where we could improve, etc. Because I realize that you've done a lot of hip-hop reviews this year, so I'd like to hear your view on the genre in general. It might be a horrible idea, but whatever :3

  • Review the new PUNCH.

  • @cthulhupunxmusic I love their new album.

  • @PowerUpComms i whole heartedly agree

  • @2:13 Jeremy said in an interview they recorded it live in the studio.

  • hot dog ueatinbg vontext id ir ubt34dj9d

  • @Steven91188 oops

  • how hib dg ipey ][[]o hr6

  • balance and composure - seperation

just like this except with singing/screaming as opposed to strictly the latter

  • (continued) the first Young Livers album, which was only eight trackes, but ran a bit longer. Inanyways, I think it's worth emphasising that there's a lot of, if not originality then innovation, from the loudness of the vocals, to the mixture of sometimes Bridge And Tunnel like guitars with the vocals, as well as the drummer introducing the odd blast beat. All in all, I think it's well worth the 20 minutes a spin takes, and I'm really looking forward to screaming those words at Fest time!

  • Good review. All your points are valid. I've heard people complain about the lyrics a lot on this one, though nobody's really explained why as well as you have. I quite like them if i'm being honest, but I guess I'm a punk rock Jimmy Stewart. Also, your point about variety.... How much variety can you get out of 20 minutes? I see this more as an EP with lots of songs than an actual album - it has the number of tracks but not the length of a LONG PLAYER, sort of like a counterpoint to (continued)

  • Review Hang The Bastard - Hellfire Reign, I feel you'd actually enjoy that, a lot more than this.

  • Also, Touche Amore is not a screamo band at all.

  • this is one of my favorite albums of the year. top five. i listen to it every day

  • JEFF THE BROTHERHOOD-WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS

  • awesome band, awesome songs.

  • I think you reviewed this album as favorably as you did because you probably haven't heard their first album. The songs on their debut are much more together then the one's on this release, a lot of parts sound so haphazardly slammed into place. I find every time I listen to Parting the Sea I'd just rather put on anything else they've done.

  • @peaceorperil i agree. to the beat of a dead horse was a much better album. this album felt like they were just trying to do it again. their first record gave me goosebumps, this album feels more like i'm listening to one of 'those bands' if you will. not a big fan of that shit.

  • You know what, Anthony. Good review!

  • Yes yes yes finally some hardcore/emo/"skramz"/whatever! There are a shitload of amazing bands in this area, like Off Minor, Daitro, Killie, Kidcrash or more loosely Kickball, Des Ark, Lack, that are really worth the listen.

  • have you ever heard Grade's "Headfirst Straight to Hell"?

  • The second you said "screamo" I clicked off. Sorry.

  • @AvantKarma you're a cunt.

  • @am5395 You're nice.

  • SOOOO AWESOME

im glad u reviewed this fantastic album

  • Review Old Friends by Pygmy Lush. Ex-members of legendary hardcore band pg.99.

  • Review Prophets by Counterparts. Please.

  • Band is amazing live though.

  • And all the songs are too samey.

  • The vocals are mixed way to high, ruins it for me.

  • Although this style of music doesn't really appeal to me much, I can at least give credit to some of the guitar riffs and lyrics...the vocals were quite intense, but I kind of found them irritating. I'd have to be in the right mood to listen to this album.

  • Fucking THANK YOU please keep reviewing hardcore!!!

  • DEVIN TOWNSEND - REVIEW IT!!

  • what a total hack.

  • I'LL GO TO MORRISEY TO ANSWER MY QUESTIONS, CAUSE IAN CURTIS LEFT ME HANGING

  • this band is such a girlfriend band i cant take any of their words seriously just based on how cheesy their one liners come across, you should check out the new soul control ep though

  • @lSTAYHlGH The ideas that females are supposed to feel a certain way and listen to certain styles of music seperate than that of guys is one of the reasons that punk remains a non-inclusive little boys club.

  • @sethuberalles dude it was just an expression, go cry about it

  • @lSTAYHlGH I think the fact that it really is a part of common lexicon and that you used it so flippantly is part of the reason he was insulted by it. Subtle sexism like this pervades most of the culture. Defending it by saying "It's just an expression" is still defending it and you are now complicit in that sexism. "Nigger knife" is "just an experssion" too, but you're still a racist if you use it.

  • @johnhawks thats like saying i cant call blood for blood a "tough guy" band just because someone is tough dosent mean they like blood for blood. there are plenty of awesome bands with girls that i am totally into like punch and hatred surge so there is no way you can call me sexiest based on my statement. I merely made an observation that it is a band girls tend to like and some pretentious douchebag with a flashy vocab and a holier than thou attitude is not going to change my opnion

  • @lSTAYHlGH I wasn't attempting to imply that you, personally, were sexist. I was only trying to clarify why the other person was offended by your usage of the colloquialism. I didn't mean to offend you. Fact is fact: Generally, males and females enjoy different things. While the terms "girlfriend" and "tough guy" band maybe be generally apt, that kind of sweeping stereotyping of gender norms offends some people. That's all. (PS, words are useful and beautiful. Don't hate on vocabulary. :) )

  • @johnhawks

    Well I guess you're a racist then...

  • Review Join Us by They Might Be Giants

  • Yeah, the vocalist is, for me, the weakest link on this album, perhaps even this band as a whole. His screaming lacks strength and his lyrics are very corny. I've come to hate this style of "forced poetry" that also makes La Dispute a grating listen. The problem is that I have trouble taking anything that comes out of the mouths of lyricists like these seriously. The music was good, though. As he said, I certainly picked up on the fact that Anthony doesn't listen to this kind of music at all.

  • Kaiser Chiefs

  • I thought it was pronounced like, "Tooshay Amoray?"

  • @orfenandanarchy it is

  • @orfenandanarchy it is.

  • @orfenandanarchy thats because thats hows your supposed to pronounce it. mr fantano is wrong!!!

  • this was pretty gudd btw first time listened enjoi got to a point where i started feeling things changed around me but lets be honest everybody is a little fake no matter gudd or badd we all are lolz but for real not being fake i enjoied it :D

  • I'm not a fan of that emoish, hardcore, screamo sound at all. If it's dealing with metal in my opinion is a disgrace. But as long as someone is enjoying it... =(

  • This album was good i liked it

  • These guys were on my list for sxsw this past year but of course like so many other bands I missed them

  • Helms Alee - Weatherhead?

  • gonna see them in a couple of days in berlin with la dispute. its gonna be huge.

  • This is how post-hardcore should sound like

    Love it.

  • go check out Sene's Recess project....that's your next review, if you need a DL link message me

  • I thought you usually censor your language during your videos, Mr. Fantano.

  • that actually sounded good, and suprisingly creative

  • TITLE FIGHT.

If you enjoy the earlier post-hardcore stuff, their LP will definitely please you :)

  • stop smoking man

  • love this album

  • This is my AOTY along with Raein's album (italian screamo). By the way I'd like to hear your review on the new Prurient album, no more harsh noise, just crazy stuff.

  • Sorry that comment came from a mobile phone.. many typos. The song 'Stay True' was written for touche amore though.

  • Some of these things you say at the beginning of he review could easily apply to Thursday's No Devolution. Come on , that album is touche more in 3 albums ( of the evolve) In fact the last track on No Devo was written for touche more as sort of advice or counsel for the band. "but if I were them, I wouldn't listen to me" enough ! Review No Devolucion.

  • Sounds like La dispute but not quite as good

  • Amore is pronounced Amor-ay.

  • Finally got around to reviewing my current AOTY. Christ, it took you a while...

I want you to know that I appreciate you reviewing this despite not enjoying more recent post hardcore.

I really full heartedly agree with a lot of the stuff you're saying here as I watch this. Condolences is my favorite track on the album, and I know it definitely isn't yours, but I'm sure we can all agree that Wants/Needs is also just awesome.

Anyways, thanks again for reviewing it.

  • This is some of the best post- hardcore to come out since ModernLifeisWar which is what they remind me of. Good stuff.

    Listen to DEADRAMONES by ModernLifeisWar

  • Good review. I love this album and its definitely going to make my best of 2011 list.

  • *notices Queen album* High five! *holds up hand* :D

  • I was sure you were going to review Zomby - Dedication. Sadly, I was mistaken...

  • You should stop giving number reviews to your reviews. Causes bullshit on /mu/

  • did you just say touché A MORE?

  • Are you really The Internet's Busiest Music Nerd?

  • review Bowser by Jonwayne

really glad you reviewed this album. I like you, thought the lyrics were a bit much at some point. But its the same reason i love this album.......some good listens have, and will be had in the future. Its on my ipod so.......good stuff IMHO.

    thanks!

  • i didn't quite like this as much as To The Beat Of A Dead Horse. some lyrical moments are just so facepalm worthy

  • nvm hahaha

  • i request that you review the eleanor friedberger album. :)

  • you should review some Comadre too...

  • If you like hardcore, listen to fire and ice.

  • dint enjoy this too much:/ i could see right through those lyrics and the static vocals dint do it though the concepts were good

but i have a question. what are your favorite "screamo" bands?

also u should do an "essentials" series for those who don't lurk on that good ol' music board;P

  • what do i think? this album changed my life.

  • FINALLY
