Flagdue, you've read too much water propaganda. First of all, what is "tap water"? The source is either surface water (lakes, rivers, reservoirs, etc.) or ground water (wells, springs, etc.).

If it's municipal tap water, it's chlorinated to kill germs, filtered through a sand bed to remove debris, and usually has fluoride added. Nothing is done to remove chemicals, cysts, or metals.

If the tap water comes from a private well, the only treatment it receives is by the home owner.

I've read in several sources that trace amounts of every kind of drug imaginable are found in public water systems all over the world. Pain killers, blood thinners, anti-depressants, hormone treatments, you name it.

Who knows what the long term effects will be. Carbon filters remove over 99% of pharmaceuticals.

Flagdue (part 3): so, to say that bottled water is no different than tap water is simply not true. I would bet my house that Aquafina or Desani bottled water is far purer than municipal tap water. At the very least, all the chlorine is removed from Aquafina and Desani.

However, Aquafina and Desani use reverse osmosis as part of their filtration, which removes healthy minerals along with the bad solids.

I use a carbon water filtration system that removes the bad things but leaves in minerals.

H2O is H2O, anywhere on Earth. The only difference is what's also in that H2O. Sure, contaminant levels are USUALLY tiny in "tap water", and USUALLY pose no short or even medium term health risk, but they could pose long term risks.

A good water filter only costs 10 cents or less per gallon to operate, will remove 95 - 99+% of most contaminants, and improve the taste, so why not use one?

Anyway there are many ways of filtering ones water as well as many ways to distill water. Distilled would be the cleanest but it would be lacking some minerals and so it might not be the best to drink in large quantities

Oh I didn not know that. I thought distilling would evaporate the water and leave behind everything. So really, the only way to go (within reason) is the decent reverse osmosis setups.

btw. My parents had an electricy powered water distiller (I think it was a GE brand) and after about 10 gallons, you'd open it up and on its very fine stainless steel mesh filter, there was the nastiest smelling brown/black sludge. Basically smelled like a sewer. Thats why I assumed it worked so well :)

I do not know about sources in English, but an extensive double-blind study of fluoridation was done in China and village children who were given fluoridated water for 1 year scored several points of IQ lower than the batch that didn't.

Hence China has banned water fluoridation completely due to its toxicity. It is generally cumulative in quantity and adverse effect.

Water purified by reverse osmosis will pull the fluoride out of your water.

that's mostly true, but some reverse osmosis filters do not take all of the fluoride out. The fluoride is only 80% removed.

On the other hand, I do not believe that the mineralization is absolutely necessary.

The showers should be filtered, but then I don't want to pay for a reverse osmosis filter to get fluoride out of my shower water.

The bottom line is that there is no complete escape until you stop the government from the fluoride dumping.
