Thats what there made for and that is what they do best, but if you just use a diesel truck as a daily commuter and never tow or haul anything it will still run great as long as you do the proper maintence. It would be a waste kinda, but it would run fine. Any mechanic that tells you otherwise either is not being literal or is a complete moron. Diesel cars never tow and yet they last forever and run superbly. Ex. Mercedes-Benz, VW, BMW, etc diesel cars.

Dude, I own two cummins ram trucks.

I don't tow anything with them. I just drive them from job to job. I have 214,000 original miles on my 2004 5.9 cummins and I have 177,000 orininal miles on my 2007 6.7 cummins. These engines go strong whether you tow or not. Cummins engines are totally built to run for a long, long time! I simply own these trucks because they run forever and the resale value is strong with these engines when you have high miles.

That doesn't mean you "need" to tow or drive highways with them. I know TONS of people here in alberta that use their cummins for everyday driving, drag racing, sled pulling, towing, and the general consensus is....its the best diesel motor hands down! How so iv talked to many people who said they have had many issues with the 6.7L Cummins. Faulty turbos, injectors. Yes the 5.9L cummins is good but many people with 07,08 cummins said they had many issues.

Maybe when it was just released in 07, the 6.7 had issues, but thats kinda the way it is when you release a "new" motor. Like the 5.7 hemi (when it was first offered), had a shit storm of problems, or the 6.0L ford in 2003.5 (which is the worst diesel out there)...I mean thats just the way it is. Cummins corrected the problems and NOW the 6.7 is a half decent engine.

Your theory (or this mechanics theory) that diesels "NEED" to be worked is false. They are designed to work, but dont NEED to be.

I had a 93 Mustang, 05 Taurus, 97 F150, 00 Mustang, and now a 88 Mustang GT. Out of all of them, the Taurus was a nice comfortable ride, the F150 was the best one I've owned. Never gave me any problems. Neither did the Taurus, but I love sitting up high so thats what gave it the extra point in my book lol Who knows what my next one will be. Maybe a suv or smaller pickup.

Dodge needs to update the interior design. I put wood trim in mine. They should offer a 12 speed transmission-6-speed with auxillary. I like the Jake break- not a fan of blue tec emissions control, we can do without that. I am going to run a straight pipe also,. Mopar rules.

Dodge has the best line of reliable engines out there, period. Fords uses cheap parts and are hard to work on. and GM trucks are pussy

i agree with you on ford being hard to work on. my friend has a 94 ranger. when his water pump went out, the had to take everything off of the front of the engine (a/c, alt, p.s, fan, belts, a bunch of brackets)

when the pump when out on my sonoma, the only things that had to come off were the fan and the belts.

I would Get the Dodge Ram, If your going for the Half-Ton, get the 5.7 HEMI, If your Going for the 2500 3/4 Ton, No point in getting the HEMI, when you can get it with a Cummin's which has More Power, and Better Gas Milage. Same with the 1 Ton 3500.

Ford Diesels are, and always have been the crappiest Diesels when Compared to Dodge or Chevy.

We can look at it this way: when catalytic converters first came out, they were horribly restrictive and killed mileage, but today have almost to no effect on mileage. The same will probably happen with diesel emissions equipment.

Me I prefer the old school diesels. The 12 valve and 24 valve cummins and the old 7.3 powerstroke. Loud, smelly, and can roll the smoke! The way a diesel should be ;)

The 6.7 does get significantly worse mileage than the 5.9, as does the LMM duramax over the LBZ, and the 6.4 PSD over the 6.0.

All the new clean diesels seem to have so much emissions control equipment on them that it just kills the mileage. I actually know a few people who have taken off the DPF (diesel particulate filter, highly illegal BTW, but I would do it if I had a new diesel) and are experiencing mileage almost comparable to the 5.9.

It all depend on how you use the truck, if your hauling heavy loads on the freeway get the diesel, or driving around town and getting grocerys get the hemi either way your only going to get 15 mpg max.

for 2010 the hd's will be redesigned, im surprised they updated the brakes this year since their will be an all new ram hd next year. Dammit I guess I should have waited to get the 09 model. Oh well the brakes on mine work damn good anyways. As far as the cummins goes I doubt you will see a change until after 2011, since the current 6.7 meets 2010 emissions anyways, even though its a pos system.
