  • i wish i had it for real

  • This is clearly a CG animation.

    Why the bullshit?

  • Green Tie shots, Pink lasers, & Orange Light Sabers...

"They're Always After Me Lucky Charms!"

  • I've been planning on using this on a show I'll be working on and getting examples to show people and this is the BEST example I've seen, Amazing work dude.

  • @Shmulvey Thank you!

  • @KevinBul More than welcome. I'd love to pick your brain at some stage if that would be ok? I got something similar done a while back but it didn't have the dept that this does.

  • @Shmulvey Glad to help.

  • orange and purple lasers? FTW

  • @jokkevandessel - What orange & purple lasers? Do you mean Vaders light sabre and Han and Leia's blasters?

  • @KevinBul yea... werent they red and green or something?

  • @jokkevandessel - It's interesting that this keeps coming up. We have the licence to use this poster artwork. My guess is the artist painted this from a selection of still photos (possibly even black & white photos) without having seen the film. Lucas are very strict about their property and you can't change these things, even if it's just to correct them. However, I did take a liberty and make the blasts from the TIE fighter green instead of red!

  • @jokkevandessel - My big problem with this poster, and it hits me every time I look at the poster, is the hilt to Vader's saber. It is just wrong in every way! :)

  • Although not perfect (as somebody mentioned below lenticular 3D is only on horizontal axis), this poster is still really awesome!, Specially is you set a spot light right in front of it.

  • That's amazing! I want to see the movies in 3D!

  • @Timstuff StarWars Saga will be released in 3D starting in 2012 wit Phantom Menace, in 2013 Attack of the Clones, an so on cant wait till 2014,2015,2016 and 2017

maybe when we enter to the theaters to see Phantom Menace..

and the credits explaining the movie roll we get a surprise if Lucas decides to recall Phantom Menace episode IV meaning he will make a pre-prequel Saga :O,:O,:O, :O, :O

  • OMG IS THIS A REAL POSTA I WANT ONE

  • Is this an actual poster that can be hanged on a wall? I have never seen anything quite like this, amazing! Do you also take requests for future posters?

  • siiick

  • wow, when i looked at this video I thought, "why is everyone so fussed with polarized glasses when you can have something this smooth with lenticular print, but then I saw the comments.

Quick questions, how did you make such a smooth video of the same 3d image? and what is preventing people from making something this smooth with lenticular? Lastly, with HD tv, would it now be possible to make lenticular screens for 3d effect video.

  • "...but then I saw the comments"?

I made the video by animating the data(?)

The lenticular IS this smooth EXCEPT that it only moves in the horizontal plane. To move in both would not be possible because of the way the lenses make the 3D effect. It's a bit difficult to explain in such a small space.

HDtv with a lenticular lens is already available. Often called "autostereo" because you don't need glasses to view it.

  • dude...you probalby don't know POPIMS lenticules yet..... ;)

they uses spherical lenses ;) so..up down left and right is possible :D

  • Spherical lenticules require an image to be symmetrical in multiple planes. They are great for depp, repeating patterns but, sadly, not for pictures like this.

  • This is a complicated subject. Here's a brief answer.

Po;arised 3D allows your eyes to be parallel when they look at an item on the horizon; just like real life. Lenticular can't do that much discrepancy. It can simulate between 6" and 3' depth, depending on the quality of the lens. It can seem much deeper if the image is good.

Some companies are championing autostereo 3D tv. That is lenticular TV. I've had to edit this reply down to fit in the available characters. Visit my website for more.

  • woooow

  • I just got this poster in the mail and it is pretty cool. The 3d effect is not quite as smooth as depicted in the video. For example when viewing Luke you will see the picture jump from one angle to another (3 angles total). But when you walk past the poster it looks like Luke is tracking you with his blaster.

Is it just me or does it look like there is a small coffee stain to the left of Grand Moff Tarkin?

  • There are 20 angles total and you are seeing the sequence jump from the end to the start again as you move past the poster.

The "coffee stain" is the trail of smoke behind a shot tie fighter. It's on the original poster and it's here. You can see that it is "inside" the poster and gets further away the smaller it gets.

  • got this poster on my wall its defernatly been computerised that 1 tho lol no were near that 3d

  • Thanks. Have you seen the actual poster yet?

  • wow

  • Why Han-solo and Leia have a beam sword and luke (the jedi) have a handgun??

  • If you look closely you will see that Han Solo and Leia are holding blasters, not light sabers. Both weapons are being fired and you see the energy blast from them. Luke is holding the blaster he used in the film and that he held in all of the promotional photos for the film.

This artwork is the original artwork used in 1977 to promote the film in Europe. I have converted it to 3D but I have not changed it.

  • I think they are holding blasters ;p

  • A very impressive piece of work and I would encourage everyone to look at the website to checkout an anaglyph preview. I notice the video shows horizontal *and* vertical parallax (you can look above and below objects as well as looking round to see each side, neither of which you can do with a 3D cinema image). Is this poster really made with a spherical rather than cylindrical lenticular sheet? I hope so as it would make this poster even more unique. If not, does it show horizontal parallax?

  • No. The poster offers horizontal parallax (it's a lenticular poster). Our technique permits both and allows us to convert 2D to genuine 3D for any use people require (eg DVD menus, etc.) and the video shows off the details of that conversion.

  • Thats very cool. Not only is it a good presentation of your poster, but it's also a great way of showing that a 3D effect can be generated and shown on a 2D platform without the use of expensive end-user equipment such as projectors and glasses. Perfect for bringing a certain movie or 6 to the big screen in 3D...

  • Thanks WelcomeStranger.

I think it would make a good menu system for a DVD or Blu-Ray disc. You could zoom thru and around the original poster, or a scene from the movie.

  • Most definately! So could Synthetic Dimensions create the same 3D process from any 2D source?

  • Yes. We've done 2D to 3D conversion on Van Gogh paintings, sketches, photos and movie stills.

  • Where can I order one?

  • Hi, if you go to our website you can register. They should go on sale at the end of February.

  • BEYOND sexy! Where can I order one??
