What a great engineered design, Wow it's awsome. Are you planning to add chip wipers to protect the linear bearing slides? Also love your tool changer. A total great job you have done and thank you for sharing .
Hey, here's something to consider. You should probably try putting something over the X and Z guides. Those rubber folding guards would be good enough. Just a thought.
I agree, this is a good job. I would like to know what you use to lock the turret. Is it a brake? What is the lead on the screw?

Brilliant job. It'd be safer to have a door on the machine though.

I have been looking for a small lathe for some time. This one is awesome for turning delrin or UHMW. Will you be selling them?

Nice build, but you need some protection for the screws.
A skirt, or bellow.

Man all you need is a tailbody/subspindle and a tool eye and milling in the toolposts :)... Look alot like a mini Mazak or something :)

No live center? Looks like you could cut some pretty long parts if it had one.

Extremely impressive. Have you documented the build on a website? I'd love to see some more videos or read about the build & design.
You are very talented.

I have a real shop with several real CNC machines, so I am not a machine shop -hobbiest-. And I want to say
that this is a super accomplishment and it looks absolutely professional. Fantastic job!

Nothing short of amazing. How well does it work turning steel?
cffellows 3 years ago
It cuts steel fine with light passes of .010-.020 per side, I haven't pushed it more than that. I cut about 95% Delrin anyway.

I don't know how that would be possible without hydraulics and tools on collets.

Does it have to go all the way out to change tools?
ryobiguy 3 years ago
No, it'll change tools anywhere you tell it to. It's a good habit to let it move back to home for safety.
