@hallokity123@hallokity123 - I'll tell you what, if you started playing guitar at age 10 and then got to tour with Tommy Emmanuel at age 11 I'll give a listen to your opinon, until then STFU. Anyone that Tommy claims was far better than Tommy was at that age can call himself anything he wants and should deserve our respect for his talent. What a boxer has anything to do with a guitarist I can only imagine.
@ravenrose89 If you are going to be in a contest for 250 fucking thousand dollars then you would never risk loosing by playing an original song. You need to play something that you know will be liked. If you want originality then listen his original music...
@sanman312 Well, Jack Vidgen decided to sing an original composition by himself for his final performance, and won it. I agree that its not entirely appropriate to compare these two young talented people, but watching a close copy (granted that some improvisations were made) of T.E's classical gas for a final performance seemed rather mediocre to me. Im not hating nor do I doubt his potential, but im just voicing my humble opinion.
@ravenrose89 Truthfully, I wish he'd made like It's Not Easy or Bergeson Fries before this. I firmly believe that a last performance should be created by that musician.
@CoolKateBass Haha, you don't play any instrument, do you? He is 16 - you have to start somewhere and Tommy Emmanuel's tunes are great to both learn and showcase your skills with. If you would have cared about his playing at all you would instantly have noticed that he have great own original music circling around here on youtube. And if you mean fingerstyle overall: It's as if you would have told John Petrucci to advande from distorted playing since Hendrix already had played it...
@salomon9595 Why would you make that accusation that i don't play an instrument? I'm actually bass guitar player studying performance at the Queensland Conservatorium, so don't you dare say i don't play an instrument. i wasn't saying he was bad, it's just all the most famous musos in the world are well known because they attempted something different...
@salomon9595 Dude i never wanted to talk to you in the first place! You started the freaking conversation! Maybe you should to except others opinions before stating you own. Btw i did check his "circlings" on youtube, and he has to EXACT same loud as tommy Emanual, musicians need to find there own style sound. i repeat he is a good player, but he could be even better if he maybe didn't play the exact same classical gas version.
@CoolKateBass I'd suggest you to listen to the interview on iconfetch[dot]com that's called like April 6th, 2011 - Joe Robinson. Sorry if I like made you mad or something, but you should expect some response if you comment on youtube :)
@CoolKateBass He's doing a fairly good job of finding his own sound actually. He's still growing up remember and everyone needs to start somewhere; he was 16 then, he's 20 now. Go to my channel and under my favorites I have a video favorited of him playing and singing from last month in New York. He's definitely branching off and starting to play his own thing.
see you wouldnt get this on britains got talent he's not singing a shit pop song with autotune and he's not dancing, thank god for this version of the show this is serious talent
@woody1182 Tommy and him are friends and they have even toured together. It's a great cover and he should certainly be allowed to play it to show his ability.
This wasn't a performance to know if he deserved to go to the Grand Final. This was a show, a gig like he says.

@leeandoly Normally when you play guitar you either only play the melody/solo part or you only play the rythm part. The guy in the video, Joe, plays fingerstyle guitar. He plays both the melody and rythm part at the same time. Plus a little percussion at some moments ^^
he is probably one of the finest young guitarists in the world and he has been invited to record with Lee Ritenour on his new album along with the likes of , Steve Lukather , Andu Mckee, and Guthrie Govan. He is a worthy comparison to the acoustic god that is Tommy Emmanuelle
in the Hollands got talent there also was a guy who did some tommy emmanuel stuff, he is a great fan of Tommy Emmanuel. Unfortunately, that guy did not win Hollands got talent, he became 2nd.
I´m glad that this kind of music does come in the 1st place somewhere in else in the world:P:)
@Mirco1121 i have read he practised four hours before and after school...don't get me wrong he has the talent and is probably the best in his age, but getting to this point where he stands needs a lot of work :)
I gotta admit I cringed a bit when I heard the blatent Tommy E. rip but I figured in these competitions who the heck are doing originals anyway? Nice transition into the classic Mason W. version at the end. This tune is a hit with me and I think he played the hell ou of it.
@clay2606 Oh, Tommy did in 1995 with Columbian records (part of Sony recordings) and Australian philharmonic orchestra. The CD had 12 tracks and was named "Classical Gas". This particular track was the only cover track, all others were written by Tommy.
To be honest -- and I am from Europe-- Australia should be proud to have produced a brilliant self-taught guitarist with exceptional skills and terrific musicality. Bloody brilliant. A real talent. Well done Australia and to him.
