I never imagined their voices would be THAT perfect together. As for who is best, don't even DARE to add Celine's name to that list. She ruined this song like she does with everything. I HATE her voice!
@ajr0988@2mules1 Definitely Cyndi and Celine, with Orbison a distant third. I like his clear voice and have several CDs, but he's not expressive, dramatic nor has a powerful voice. Drama is important for these lyrics and melody. About the most dramatic thing Orbison can do is his signature growl. Even his live performances of this song lacks conviction; he just stares expressionless. For some songs, his limited voice is perfectly adequate and very pleasant, but this isn't one of them.
@lgbtTV4 Roy Orbinson a distant thrid??? There is NO ONE that can sing this song better than Roy. In the words of Bruce Springsteen, "He had a voice like an angel and he sang rock and roll."
@Rockit8 I like his voice but what does have to do with the INTERPRETATION of this song? I listed my reasons in my original post, i.e. being expressive. When I studied voice, I was told to understand each word and line, and express them through voice. Where does Orbison do that? Can you quote a line he sings expressively? The best singers can express a mood even when the lyrics are in a language one doesn't understand. Orbison never does that in this song. Please read my post again.
@lgbtTV4 YOU FORGOT TO MENTION YOU STUDIED VOICE AT A SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF......Trying to explain to you that Roy Orbison's voice is the ultimate expressive singing .... is like trying to explain color to the profoundly blind........You know not, that you know not......
Definitely Roy! There was NObody like Roy! I couldn't finish listening to this one. She was flat. His singing was lovely, though. He wasn't pushing and his voice just floated, at least it was when I could hear it.
Celine's version is lovely as well, but again, there's nobody like Roy!
AWESOME!!!! Thanks for sharing. :)
