thanks so much for the video man, i found this right when i was real frustrated and discouraged and it really helped motivate me. also, i was wondering if you had any tips or techniques on coordinating your hands while using a double bass pedal.
so I'm just starting drumming, and I'm doing the basic rock beat (hat, snare, hat, snare), and my foot gets tired really quickly, even though it's only playing on every other beat. Also, the bass drum doesn't seem loud enough. Any advice?
@Sucklessguitarvids if you are just starting out then its probably that, but also if your heel is on the pedal at all times it will get your lower leg muscles tired, if you raise your heel you will have louder volume with less effort, the upper leg will get tired at first but its easier to control rather than the lower leg
@Sucklessguitarvids i have been through those stages as well and now that i am starting double bass again i am also repeating those stages with my other foot. the whole thing you want to look out for is that your muscle are continuously developing so it might take a while to get to the level you want to be at. a good exercise i found was to start slow like 80 bpm and play for 30 seconds, then take a small break and continuously bump up the tempo. try that and see what goes
Very well done. I have been trying to really get my feet together. I play single bass. I practice mostly heel down because I feel lik I have more control. Do you think its possible to gain power and speed with heel down. I have been playing a long time and I am kind of torn between what to practice.
you were saying that 200bpm your foot/leg motion transitions ,i use leg at really low tempos 120bpm down (breakdowns and such) and use ankle motin all the way to about 190 then from 190 up to 230bpm(my max) i swivel but sadly i quit playing for all winter so im back to learning my teq agian and regaining my peed
You know what man, I've seen A LOT of videos about bass drum techniques but trust me, this is the first video I've found so far that I can say it helped me A LOT, not only because of the little practice you teach on your video, but also for some of the things you said at the very beginning of the video. You're so f*cking right my friend haha, thanks a lot!!! You're amazing!!

Hi, i kinda got the ankle motion and i go rly fast. But the thing is that it isen't that loud. Im using axis a longboards spring bit above the middle, VDL bit above middle. If you got any idea of improving my strengt please message me :D Great vid btw!
@morganix007 that's still a lot of leg motion, and unfortunatly you must do lot of exercises ^^ there is no way to learn from 0 to 150 bpm in one day, just do single stroke rolls with metronome at a comfortably speed FOR YOU and add 5 or 10 bpm at time.By the way,it'n not even that hard ;)
what is this technique called? flat foot? also what about rapid transitions between different speeds would it still work? also approx. how long it would take to go from 155 bpm to 185 bpm by training this exercises 1-2 hrs per day? cheerz
i agree with kollias there is no "flatfoot technique." foot is flat however it's still ankle motion. yes it works for speeds over 180-190bpm. watch the video again as this is the point. the bpms dictate the motion just like hand technique. as tempos get faster a different motion is necessary. watch the 3 different motions from slow to fast. 155 will take more of a leg motion as its slower than 185. work on 100, 150, then 200 bpms. you'll see how these tempos effect your motion
awesome video but how come when your talking you rock back and forth, also it just sounds like people should pick up georges dvd cos your just saying the same stuff except he has more detail but awesome video and thanks for the tips
oh sweet, nvr noticed that there's less power the faster you go and if ur faster, most of the speed is from the wrist(for the hands) and bottom feet(for playing bass drum), nice video and great tips, but do direct drive and belt drive pedals feel the same? cuz i know tht chains and belt "feel" completely different, what about belts and direct drives?
great vid man, some really helpful tips. I'd never really understood how to push into that next level of speed with the bass drum, and having watched your technique and seen the movements to get to that speed i tried it on my kit and found out that my bass drum pedal was a bit to tight and loosening made all the difference. cheers mate
@pottersfield13 Great vid dude! Any tips for control of the new foot? because i've just got a double bass pedal and the control of my left foot is so bad its unreal, hope you can get back to me thanks
duuuudee, i've been triying to get more speed in my pedals i have arround 3 months with my evolution pedals, iknow they suck, but it's all i can get, you really helped me 4:54 i didn't know that!! i didn't realize it, i was getting kind of desesperated :/ it's being really really hard to me specially with the kind of pedals i have :/ economic pedals, anyway you really helped me thanks a lot man!! :)
you looked quite funny though..hahaha...hey u chek it out again...my goodness how u stairing...its like u kinda masturbating or something like that ..ur face is stiff and ur hands moving...damn....hey kidding...
I've got mad respect for you E! There's too many arrogant drummers who, for what ever reason, don't share their techniques with a beginner or give you the brush-off. I agree with you; talent is meant to shared, not horded. You're the man!
Nice vid Erik, i like your philosophy on Double Bass, similar to Georges "If someone can play it, You can play it". Great exercise too, im going to try it out soon. Good Job!
Really good video. I see you are very experienced drummer. :) Have you tried to swivel technique? That's really useful technique but that can take a while to learn..
thanks so much for this. through all your videos you have been SO much help to me! i cant thank you enough, i am going to try this technique it seems to be perfect! you are a great drummer!

So when I make a double bass transition from a sing pedal I will have to train my secondary foot for consistency er how does it work?
