  • How often do you wash your hair?

  • Hi LHDC2011.

First, I LOVE your videos. They are informative and inspired me to chop my hair down to the natural. My hair was relaxed and relatively healthy and quite long (around my arm pits) and it is about 4 inches right now.

Second, Vitacost is not a scam. I have been shopping there for years and never had a problem. As a matter of fact, I am waiting on an order from them right now :-)

I recommend people to vitacost.com all the time.

  • Finally a good braid washing tutorial with decent sound quality!!!

  • To those who may not know Dr. Bronner Bros. is sold at Target along with other favorites: Kinky Curly, Miss Jessies, etc.

  • how do u feel about msm powder?

  • @piecefulcenter

Tastes disgusting. I couldn't tolerate the taste long enough to see a difference.

  • @Longhairdontcare2011 wow ur the 1st person to say they actually taste it. u must have sensitive taste buds, lol!

  • it was your video that made me want to go natural Thanks!

  • how do you avoid frizziness? My hair comes out so frizzy after washing with the braids still in.

  • u should put some shampoo in a spray bottle with some water to better help you concentrate on your scalp

  • is your hair in little rubber bands to keep the braids from unraveling?

  • I kno u only shampoo the scalp but do you wet the scalp and the braids

  • my hair is shoulder length it will never grow that long.

  • @wishywashygirl19

No way, your hair CAN grow longer, unless you have a serious medical condition that affects your thyroid. I am rooting for you, anything you want in this world is YOURS, honey. You CAN grow 6 inches in a year and boom--that' some long hair, especially sine you already have shoulder length hair.

  • Hi

When your hair is loose and you wash it, do you only wash the scalp as you do with the braided hair? I'm sorry if you have been asked this before, I just haven't had the time to look at all of your videos (not yet, anyway : )

    thanks

  • Hi, when i wash my hair with braids i use a small hand sponge or a sponge used to bathe babies, to massage my scalp. lather the sponge and work it through. thanks for sharing

  • Sorry but whats the name of that soap?

  • You purchase at Trader Joe's for $8.99. Check their website to find one near you.

  • do you deep condition your braids as well? how offered do you wash your hair with the braids in?

  • ok so this is a little unrelated to the video. buttttt im going to ask anyway. whenever i wash my hair, or even just moisturize right after i wash, i get alot of hair loss. do u recommend anything?

  • @schante89

The 2 seem unrelated (but im not saying it's impossible). Try washing your hair and not moisturizing until a day or so after and see if it's a feasible link to breakage...or try a new moisturizer.

  • I order from vitacost all the time because they have the lowest costs on vitamins and soap I love, but I use their ebillme option. This allows me to pay at a local moneygram or cvs and do a one time payment of cash for my items. By the way, you have gorgeous hair!!!

  • if u got a whole foods store they should have it there

  • This soap is sold at Whole Foods as well. I actually love the tea tree soap by Dr. bronners for my Hair and Whole Body.

  • do you still scratch your scalp before washing with braids?

  • good question. No, because the space between the braids is so small that i'd snag the hair. I only scratch the scalp on loose hair sectioned in 4s. The tension isn't rough and should NOT cause pain or bleeding.

  • you a my hair inspiration. your hair is gorgeous

  • FYI for everyone wondering where to purchase this soap. I've seen it at Target, CVS, and Stop&Shop:)Hope this helps...

  • Wow, that's really interesting! And the crazy thing is, I'M planning on researching the ingredients in my hair products! But anyway, is there any place in Philly I can get this soap?

  • I am guessing that any health food store should have the soap. I am just a cheapo and trying to pay as little as possible for it lol. Shop around though if you do find it. I paid a lil over 10 bucks for 32 oz..so you can gauge an appropriate price to pay. The more popular something gets, the more it costs, so it might pay to pick up 2 lol.

  • I order from vitacost all the time. At the end of the ordering there is always a popup box, asking if you want a discount or free shipping. I think it's when people click on that without reading the terms, that they get charged. I heard abou tthat happening to a member at LHCF

  • You can purchase Dr. Bronner's Castille Soap from Target & Health Food Stores in NYC too!

  • Hey I do the same thing when I wash my braids. But if you dont mine me asking how do you keep your braids from shrinking up after rinsing? My hair always seems to shrink up!

  • I dont do anything ini particular, my hair is just that way for the most part. It is important to braid the hair tight enough though so that the braid doesnt puff up, thus adding to shrinkage and to braid the hair to the ends so there isn't a puff on the bottom of the braid.

    take care

  • hi...is it at all moisturizing? if not, do you think something could/should be added for moisture?

  • You can find Dr. Bronner's at Trader Joes. It is under $10 there. You are in NYC so you shouldn't be too far from it. That's where I purchased it from when I was in NY. I just moved a week ago. Don't substitute for the Trader Joe's brand castile soap because it's not as good.

  • you can purchase this castile soap at GNC as well.

  • So good to see this, especially for natural hair. I was breaking my hair everytime I washed it. Thanks for this. Washing in braids is key.

  • :D

    ty for watching!

  • I also use dr. bronners castille soap. You can purchase it at duane reade and a lot of beauty supply stores carry it as well.

  • UMMMM I just ordered the 16 oz bottle of his peppermint soap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for sharing. Judging by your info and what I've read, the bottle should last me until Jesus comes back, lol.

  • lmao! It lasts and lathers AMAZINGLY, but I find myself wasting it because it's so watery :(

I need to get a bottle for it.

    take care mcel :D

  • I use dr. bronners as well, you can purchase it at duane reade and also a lot of beauty supply stores sale it.

  • Love your vids... keep them coming!!! I also use the Dr Bronners castille soap (the almond just like you)... and I just love how it cleans my scalp!!! The only thing I do different is that I dilute it with water in a spray bottle. Some people may be shocked but I do a 1:10 ratio (if not more) and it still gets my scalp clean and it gives a nice lather!!! So even if I have the 16 oz bottle... it's going to last me a REALLY long time!!!

    Take care.

  • They sell Dr. Bronner's at Target now , they even sell Burt's Bee's products as well. GNC also carries it. Dr. Bronner's is good for everything. I wash my hair, body and face with it. It doesn't dry your hair or skin out and you use less lotion. I love it. It lasts for ever because it's concentrated. I love the peppermint, but Iam trying out the Rose scent right now.

  • They sell that in my corner store!!!

    I'll check the prices!!

  • Hey! Hey!

Once again good informative video. Thanks for posting and it's so nice to see that we're using the same product. Dr Bonner I mean :-)

  • really! I use Vitacost and haven't had problems. Do you know what the scam is?

  • A good alternative to applying the soap with your hands is to add it to a color applicator bottle or condiment bottle and dilute with a little water, apply to wet or dry hair or directly t scalp. It makes the process a little easier.

  • That's exactly what ill have to do! ty so much

    takecare

  • @JessicaDee1987 That is a great suggestion!

  • Aweseome. I plan on putting in some braids tonight, so this was very helpful. I'm also using Dr. Bronner's castille soap. However, I find that if I use it as a shampoo directly, my hair feels *slightly* dry (but not even close to the level of dryness I get with commercial shampoos). I usually find an old, empty shampoo bottle and dilute the castille soap with purified water.

  • great input thanks

  • How long have you been shampooing your braids like that? Have you ever shampooed your hair in the larger braids, like four large braids?

  • about 3 years

no.I have washed in 10 straight back braids, but it's never more effective than getting the hair clean from pollutants and such. It does almost nothing for teh scalp.

I prefer to wash in braids that give alot of scalp access.

  • Longhairdontcare201-1You know who you remind me of? Conya Doss. Check her out on youtube. She is beautiful. Natural haired as well. But I swear your features are similar to hers. Very. The nose, lips, and eyes. Your hair is longer though. But you look like her. Please check her out and tell me what you think.

  • aww that's sweet of you. She's a pretty woman :)

    take care

  • im going to wash my yarn braids tomorrow.. and since i also have some growth i can really use your tips!! thank you so much

  • Target also sells Dr. Bronner.

  • I think I knowwhat they're ta;king a/b there is a section when you're oredering if u don't read carefully u think u have to click to agree, but you don't. if u click it, u are agreeing to be part of like a discount thing that cost $15/mo, I almost clicked on it, but I read and just declined, that's all. I purchased from them and they have a lot of natural products 4 good prices, and they ship fast, but I will keep that in mind if any thing should arise. thanks!

  • Great vid! I've seen Dr. Bronners at Harris Teeter grocery store and Target in my area. I don't vitacost anymore either, after they told me they would have to charge me the CORRECT price for a product that was listed with the INCORRECT price. I canceled that order.

  • no way...wow! Yea, I can't see myself doing business with shady people even though all of my orders have been fine.

  • wow, I recently purchased from Vitacost and I didn't have a problem. I am wondering what the scam was?? But ever since I discovered the Dr. Bronners, that's what I use, I have Carol's D. but when that finishes I will continue using the Dr. Bronners. Trader Joe's sells the Dr. Bronners Peppermint 32 oz fro $8.99 if that helps, that way u dont have to get it from Vitacost.

  • HEY KHARYZMA!!

Ty! I'll have to go to trader joes and stock up in the next week or so!!

    take care

  • I love using Dr. Bronners to wash my scalp. Transfer it to a pump bottle or a plastic bottle with a tip applicator, it really helps with the application process. Great Video =)

  • @Yonnea- the tip applicator is best for shampoos! helps to distribute product to the scalp easier, great advice :)

  • American Apparel (dot) com also sells Dr. Bonners soap for $8.99 for a 16 oz

  • I HATE american apparel, their service and their nasty customer service reps!

I paid 10 and change for the 32 oz :(

Maybe I can make 1 last order from vitacost lol...jp

    ty for the info <3

  • GNC also sells Dr. Bronner's. I use the Peppermint Soap.

  • Does it tingle? I will pick up that one next :)

  • @Longhairdontcare2011

Yes it tingles, and I let everyone in my family use it. They love how their hair feels afterwards. I dilute it with water, and it lasts a long time.

  • how do you seal in moisture when you have cornrows in the winter?

  • KBB oils and creams. I show them and explain how I use them on my braids in other vids.

    Take care

  • How is vitacost scamming people specifically? I wanted to buy something from them but I guess not! From the bit of research I just did I found that they sell people's credit card info when you accept discount or coupon information, is that what you are referencing to? good vid by the way. you can find Dr. Bronner's castile soap if you have a Whole Foods or Vitamin Shoppe near you :)

  • I just placed the link in the more info from "epinions". That's exactly what i'm referring to. I also read that some of their products may be expired or not as fresh. I don't feel comfortable with that at all.

I saw it at whole foods, but it was about DOUBLE the price :(

  • @ longhairdontcare2011- yeah it's 14.99 at Whole Foods so 5 bucks more than what you paid online. it sucks, lol!

  • @jokermami24

I saw the peppermint on sale for 8.99 at WF but only peppermint :(

  • Is that all you hair or do you use fake hair to make the braids thicker and so it doesnt shrink or get curly after beeing wet?

  • its all her hair

  • Great Tutorial! I LOVE Dr Bronner's Peppermint Soap so I'll have to give the Almond a try as well. I usually put it in a spray bottle or an applicator bottle mixed with water (something like 1:3 ratio) and spray it in, massage, let it sit for a couple of mins and then rinse. It that worked well for me when I was in braids as well as washing loose hair.

I didn't know Vitacost had a scam going on. Thank you for letting us know! I'll cross them off my list of vendors.
