  • Even if Apple tried, it could not completely wipe windows because more than 50% of windows is used by IT and Business people. Apple is targeting consumers!

  • this guy (Not Leo) is trying to compare this to Ipad, Its a full OS compare it to Mac os or Linux. not IOS, web os or Palm

  • Apple does hardware and software, Microsoft only does software, so there is need to compare.

  • @musicman1163 Well not really, Apple does not do hardware, apart from A4 chips.. Apple uses the same hardware a PC does..

  • Win8 + Kinect = good times

  • This show needs editing down. One hour, 44 minutes to listen to Paul moan (get him some anti-depression meds) about how the upcoming Windows OS is shaping up to be the best Windows ever, just like these hosts said about Vista and Windows 7. Great Windows 8 features would be: the ability to move programs around from folder to folder like I used to on the Mac and the ability for the OS to refresh its self every few months. "Really" Paul,? You've been playing too much MW!!

    Leo, please help Paul

  • @tron23058 Help Paul do what? Be as subjective & biased as 90 percent of the rest of TWiT? No, thanks. I think the fact that he'll welcome Apple developers on his show proves that Paul doesn't need any help.

  • I'm still rocking XP!!!! If my PC doesn't crap out I'll hold out for Windows 8!!!

  • @Edel99, You will have to upgrade when they stop supporting XP maybe in 2015

  • @loveinthespace XP is getting long in the tooth!! But, if Windows 8 is coming next year, I'll wait! I also want to buy a tablet but I want one running Windows 8!

  • @loveinthespace Yeah, im pretty sure 2014 they are stopping with the XP support. im not too sure though. lol.

  • @harley22x, Yes, you're right. I meant in 2014-2015.

  • @loveinthespace Haha, i moved from XP to Windows 7 when it came out, and i tried going back to XP the other day, and its definatly not the same as i remember =P seems to work a lot different, and i find myself trying to use snap even though i know it doesnt exist. LOL.

  • they would have to come up with some kind of kinect device instead of a touchscreen, because there's no way i'm going to clean my desktopscreen of fingerprints every few hours... I love the UI though. Tiles are much better than the (outdated?) desktop icons imo. good work MSFT

  • they should release it in 2013. 2012 is too early

  • I wish technology would just skip a generation and get to VR. Moving 2D images on a 2D surface has never appealed to me.

  • Waterwold is a frikkin classic!

  • Around 52%. I guess businesses are still using it mostly.

  • @brhendriks and schools.

  • Anyone know how much market share XP still has?

  • great podcast as always! Always love listening/watching to these!

  • I don't want to touch my monitors (3x24") cause it would be hard to drag something from one to the other but for single monitors or the "average/basic/grandma/parents" user, it would be great.

  • What I am not sure about is that why do we need a touchscreen UI for a desktop computer? Desktop users still use the keyboard very much, and most of them don't want to touch their big screen.

That's why I like KDE (primarily a Linux UI), it has a strong, flexible base, but you can use it for many forms. It has a normal desktop interface, a netbook interface and they are working on a touch base interface, called Plasma Active.

Interesting move by Microsoft to show us what W8'll look like.

  • @evenorbertvilaga I'm sorry, but do you have anything to back up your claims about PC users not wanting to touch their screens, or are you just peaking for yourself and speculating about everyone else? Please provide some data from a reputable polling firm that backs up your claims.

  • @evenorbertvilaga I am a windows desktop user and I would very much love the idea of a touchscreen on my desktop.

  • My question: did they just "Palm" themselves? Remember when Palm came out at that CES? It was so cool. Everyone was excited. Then it shipped after Apple came out with something new and everyone forgot about it. Next week will we remember Windows 8? I guess we'll see.

  • @Scobleizer LOL! Yeah, Apple and it's OS are really threatening Windows with it's 7% market share. Windows controls 90% of the desktops on the planet. So your comparison is stupid beyond belief.

  • i cant wrap My head around how this could possibly work on a desktop. tablet sure, But Desktop? i am not sold on this yet. although that animated weather screen would make a great screensaver :-)

  • Cant wait to see what Windows 8 is going to look like.

  • @ms18ins Did you watch the video?
