Actually, there's a program called Steam which allows you to run games on a mac by using the steam engine. You can play far more games than 6. The best part is that I can also play older adventure games.
Most the 3D animations in PC games are rendered by Macs, if not all. Ironically you can't play most of them on the Mac. I don't play games, but seriously that's just fucked up.
@warandmorewar A number of newer game engines are being created to use both OpenGL and Direct3D. D3D was the limiting factor on so many games not being available for Mac (most engines being rewritten from scratch), not .net or XNA.
@dissforlife My wife's MacBook Pro has a GeForce 9600 GT-M (high-powered for something from late 2008) and my new iMac has a Radeon 6970 with 2GB of video memory (that yes, I agree, I totally overpaid for, but the only single-chip solution with more power isn't an option). While you can get Macs with weak graphics (GeForce 9400 IGP, GeForce 320 IGP, and anything that says Intel integrated graphics), not every Mac is on the short end of the graphics horsepower stick.
I really must disagree with you. A GeForce 9600 is very, very old, even by 2008's standards. Most good laptops from that time period were utilizing GT200-series architecture. As for the newest Macs, they still underperform in the graphics department, but it's worse due to the low (and slow) amounts of RAM. A computer will bottleneck somewhere if all the components aren't up to snuff. There's nothing wrong with those Macs per say, but the price tag? Unjustifiable.
@dissforlife Dude shut the fuck up, if go to any video game studio like EA or Bioware. You'll see the art design department using Mac Pros with Maya and 3d Studio Max installed. not every game on steam is mac ready, though really it was funny how stupid some mac users were about steam when it was released w/ free portal for macs.
@rourin you could enjoy games on Emulators, (for instance my FAV, Super mario 64 on an N64 emulator) or you could use crossover to run windows games on your mac, and that existed on that point of time. you'r up
@ergerq All you mentioned and a ton more can be played on a PC. ;) Mac and Linux people can't really argue Windows users with games in mind. Sure, most modern games can be emulated at half arsed speeds, but truth is that most releases and newest graphics drivers are released for Windows and not Mac. And if you use bootcamp to dualboot with Windows you just lose the point of having a Mac in the first place.

If the hardware has ever been better can always be debated, PPC vs x86 was the fuel of debate for a very long time, but eventually Apple went over to x86 architecture and are now using the same as PC. Only difference is that Mac uses EFI and Open Firmware instead of BIOS. The fact that BIOS has been used on PC's for as long as it have is a joke, but UEFI is taking over.

@rourin you could enjoy games on Emulators, (for instance my FAV, Super mario 64 on an N64 emulator) or you could use crossover to run windows games on your mac, and that existed on that point of time. you'r up

@ergerq All you mentioned and a ton more can be played on a PC. ;) Mac and Linux people can't really argue Windows users with games in mind. Sure, most modern games can be emulated at half arsed speeds, but truth is that most releases and newest graphics drivers are released for Windows and not Mac. And if you use bootcamp to dualboot with Windows you just lose the point of having a Mac in the first place.

@rourin i didn't say mac has more games than windows, i said mac have a lot of games, enough for the average gamer, and if you wan't to run even more games you can install bootcamp, you say you loose the point of having a mac but you don't, cuz the mac hardware is sop much better than any PC hardware, (mainly cuz apple makes their own hardware) the materials are recycled, the design is INSANELY much cooler, and for all your average tasks you have mac, then for gaming, switch to bootcamp windows!

@ergerq The Mac hardware is the exact same as the PC hardware, and Apple doesn't manufacture their own hardware. If the hardware has ever been better can always be debated, PPC vs x86 was the fuel of debate for a very long time, but eventually Apple went over to x86 architecture and are now using the same as PC. Only difference is that Mac uses EFI and Open Firmware instead of BIOS. The fact that BIOS has been used on PC's for as long as it have is a joke, but UEFI is taking over.

@xXJeReMiAhXx99 Mac is better at EVERYTHING but gaming, and since it does gaming good enough for the average gamer, then PC can suck Microsofts tiny, ancient, outdated balls! i don't really play games on my Laptop at ALL, i play on my PS3, my Macbook is for all the other shit you do on your computer, but before i got a PS3 on my room i played a lot of games on my macbook, and i worked fine for me, now i just play L4D2, TF2, GTA SA and N.O.V.A. 2 on my Mac, the rest i play on PS3!

@musicnrd well lets see CoD 4 is alright I guess, better than the recent CoDs, L4D is pretty obsolete, L4D2 is almost dead, Both Portals have very little to no replayability, Hat Fortress 2 is well...Hat Fortress 2...Garry's Mod would probably be dead by now and the Half-Life series suffer from the same problem as Portal.
Wow, you really got some great gaming there, should last you a couple of days...That's if you don't get sick of the Source engine.
