We have a Hawaii version of the 12 days of Christmas too! He he.
I'm pretty sure the "a" in lords a-leaping is short hand for are. So it'll be lords are leaping. I may be wrong though.

amazing, you learned full-contact Karate! for several years
combat sports became very popular also with women in Japan.
(honestly i hope Japanese women not to be strong anymore..they are
strong enough without learning somethingXD) so i'd like to request
some of topics about combat sports. sorry if it was already done.

I talked with another linguist and we think that the a-swimming, a-laying, etc is two things: 1) A form of a-[a gerund form of a verb] 2) A Poetic Form.
