Brilliant. My favorite TV show of all time. Has anything even come close to matching it since? This scene is a perfect example of how well the show mixed style with substance. Great song by the way...
Brilliant. No TV show made such synthesis between MTV vids and movie narration. Have you noticed the clock needle which moves exactly on the drum beat at 0:30 s ? The story is synchronised to the music. Even for the incidental music played by Jan Hammer who played and recorded in live conditions in its studio creating its music while discovering the new shots sent by the production. This level of fusion between image story and music is unique. Actors acted like movie stars too, not TV stars.
This is such a great scene. And a great episode overall. And the guy that says "back off!" in the end is Clay Morrow from Sons of Anarchy! Which btw is a series every Miami Vice fan should watch as it has some of the same elements that made Miami Vice such a delight to watch.
@webmatros Yeah, there are defintitely similaraties like a good blend of action, drama and music. Zobelle even reminds me a bit of J.J. Johnston from "The Prodigal Son". By the way, there is a fan based initiative to get Miami Vice back on the air. If you'r interested, google "Miami Vice 2 screenplay" for the script of a reunion movie with the original cast. The script was written by a fan who hopes this tv movie could be the stepping stone for a new generation of Vice series.
@jaybloke100a I doubt Miami Vice will ever go back on the air with new episodes, and it'd almost certainly never be comparable to the old episodes. Anyway, Prodigal Son is one of my favourite episodes, really good, watched it over and over;-)
Liked the show when it was on the air, lost interest when Crockett went off the reservation. Looking back, the tactical situations were ridiculous. Spent more money on each episode than Miami PD's yearly budget. Still it bears the unmistakable Micheal Mann touches.
i agree with you guys with everything. i have and always love this series, it was a great era for great music as well. what a blend, great tracks and a great show what more can you ask for eh guys?! tim
Lt. Castilo goes into a corrupt prison with armed guards as if he's just going into a grocery store. He's definitely the most cool and chilled out character in the show XD
That's 70 years since the Frog- Faced Mason patronised us Brits and Canadians, Asians, New Zealanders, Aussies, West Indians, South Africans and Rhodesians et al in order to make sure Teutonic rope wasn't put round HIS neck.
Wake up to the bullshit. They're all the fukkin same...
the only mistake that movie version made (in my opinion) was not bringing back Olmos as Castillo...Olmos's age now would have fit the movie perfectly but Mann probably couldn't get him because of BSG
Never really liked this episode,boring,anti-climactic.Once the plot is revealed your looking at the clock, waiting for the predictible rescue.Season 3's best are ''shadow in the dark ''el viejo''''forgive us our debts'' and ''lend me an ear''.Red tape and streetwise are pretty entertaining, with clever, and bleak storylines.Though it can be tough to ignore lou diamond phillips and bill paxton always hamming it up.
@jcfbell3001 : no joke my friend. Shooting while lying on the back was a regular part of sniping on the English Bisley range in the 1900`s where many sniping techniques were developed.
Awesome vice soundtrack, one of my favorites along with the first episode (Phil Collins of course) and Little Miss Dangerous (Order of Death by Public Image)
yeah i saw that but it's weak, no 360 awareness. me being picky or knowing more. who cares im nostalgia trippin cos i have these ost on tapes in a box. just the other day i got vibes to look up on u tube. as this world stands now lives in the balance is still true. from gulf war 1990-1 i have thought about this. today here is your enemy, tomorow here is your enemy. wait a faakin minute. it doesnt work like that. unless the enemy is the politician. what do i know? check my page please
a six shot .357 magnum. The seventh shot was typical hollywood firearm ignorance. If you notice, during many gunfights on Miami Vice, the semi-auto firearms are stuck in the open slide position as if they are empty after one or two shots. This is due to the insufficient power of blank cartridges to operate the slide properly. I like guns alot, does it show?
This is the best MV episode together with Shadow in the dark from the same season. There is another segment earlier in this episode with the same song when Tubbs is set up to go into prison under cover to get the bad guards. MV what a great series. Never before or after MV has so many guest stars gone onto be super stars on their own. Larry Fishburne, Bruce Willis, Julia Roberts, Kyra Sedgwick, Liam Neeson, Benicio del Toro, Anette Bening, Viggo Mortensen, Helena Bonham Carter. Unbeatable
This song made such an impression on me when I heard it for the first time on Miami Vice that I spent the next 10 years trying to track it down. Finally somebody listed all the songs for MV on the Internet and I was able to identify it. The chords, the lyrics, the drumming, the guitars -- it's just a brilliant song.
zeker aan te bevelen de hele dvdbox en eventueel alle vinylplaten cq cd.s van alle muziek uit de serie, alle muziek klopt ook bij alle fragmenten, topserie met nog betere geselecteerde muziek.....
Such a great episode worked around a great song! My only gripe is Castillo shooting his 6 shot .357 magnum 7 times but that is a small gripe. They should have shown him reloading his weapon once and crazy gun freaks like me would be satisfied!! I miss this great show.
HEY HEY! Thanks for posting this gem from vice season 3! One of my favorite scenes from the series. It showcases Castillo which always gives the series a extra edge.LUV it!!!!!!!!
