Unless you haters can back your comments up with a performance of your own, a reality check is in order. This woman is amazing, this performance is stunning. You = nothing. :P
288 people must be racist/misogynist, as I can't think of any other reason to dislike one of the great performances of one of the most technically difficult and most brilliant compositions in all of musical history. This was incredible.
i can notice her timing at some parts vary from the standard piece. mainly more of a pause at times. a few mistakes also, but she has still attained jedi level with the piano. the force is strong with this one. And as far as the comment, "瀬田さん、どういう方か存じませんが、超絶技巧ですね。
@CE750 Not so! can you play it? it also depends on what you define as true perfection. She does a very good job. Wilhelm did an excellent job, but was not that articulate as she is in some of the passages.
@almskaya Lacking emotion? LOL! did you even watch the damn video? I've never seen more emotion in a video. The third movement Is rather fast and this is loosely accurate. I'm going to assume you thought you were watching the first or second movement.
@almskaya way to fast? how would you even have the faintest idea regarding the tempo of the piece? would you know how Beethoven wanted the piece to be played in terms of interpretation, expression or tempo? You wouldn't know if this is exactly how Beethoven wanted the piece, maybe you should think about what you think this piece is meant to convey to the audience, then match it with this interpretation.
@Redfield67 No Sir..I'm not here to point out mistakes, I'm too musically illiterate to even criticize such a great performance of a great musician , It's just sth that my ear caught and wanted to know if I am right or what I heard was simply no mistake.. Otherwise I visited this page to enjoy a piece of music that I really love and appreciate, so stop acting as if we're all retards and u're the only person here who appreciates Major music ok?
@ne77s - agreed! i watched a recording of myself playing piano, i was gonna upload it to ye olde youtube but it was music porn, I daren't show it to my kids lol
@Tsadey So I'm not the only one who has thought the same! I believe it's because of how different pianists have interpreted this fantastic piece. IMO, this very fact is a clear example of the extent of the composer's musical genius... And of the extent of some people narrow-mindedness >_>
Here's why I like Seta's version better than Kempff's: 1) She separates the two cantabile voices very clearly. 2) Unique: She inserts a pause (tempo rubato) just long enough to allow the sound-board to ring-down or dampen between the "forte" and "pianissimo" phrases -- so they don't collect in the soundboard as a muddy pool. The academic tendency of modern pianists is to push the phrases to fast, to tightly end to end, and it overloads the pure wood. Kempff is a superbly trained pianist.
@pipe99chumby Why dont you read some comments and find out that what i wrote is actually correct. And for a 22 year old, people expect more than a respectless comment sounding like a 10 yr old whining.
@pipe99chumby Good job, again proving that your "knowledge" of piano music is at zero. There are no problem learning this song, but it takes lots of time that i would rather spend on other songs. Anyway, have fun acting up to other people, as you will yet again will fail to do.
@Bananayoghurt1000 The movement's name is "Presto Agitato" -- she set a tempo slightly beyond her hands' capability at the time, but this movement is intended fast. Kempff has more disciplined fingers, but he muddles the dynamics by pushing the phrases into the wood faster time, physics & instrument design allow them to dampen or clear. She can separate the melodies, and Kempff does not.
A lot of you get this twisted. Kempf plays with wonderful feeling and I agree to it but his tempo lacks. She plays this as it is intended to be played. Kempf cannot possibly match this speed or else he would have done so. This movement of the sonata sounds as if it is intended to be a showpiece. So if there is to be feeling over technicality, it should be expressed in the first two movements and the third should have attention mainly on technical performance and some on feeling.
@thelizardking887 This is a fabulous rendition of the third movement, but by no means does the speed make it "played as intended" If all you're interested in is speed my friend. I've got some incredible Black Metal for you to try out or you could give Valentina Lisitsa's rendition a listen. Either way Whether it be Kempff, Atsuko or Lisitsa. This is a marvelous movement.
@ExNihilMetal I too feel her rendition has a ton of feeling. Kempf is much like Segovia in his older age paying more attention to feeling. I was simply stating that this part of the piece is meant to showcase technicality OVER feeling, not to say that feeling be overlooked.
Given that I would pay to be able to play as fast as this girl, I must say that this is not the style I would ever play Beethoven. I agree with many previous comments: listen to Kempff and you will discover a completely different music.
It's all in deciding if you want just to exhibit yourself or you want to really 'play Beethoven': Kempff does the latter.
sorry I don't know english well. this words is 100% right : if Mozart, Haidni and Beethoven would not be in our world, the music will not existence!!!
@Fastallesversteher Agree. The japanese (and chinese) always seem to focus more on speed and flashy movements. It's like having sex; Kempff caresses you and tells you that he loves you and puts his soul into it. Seta just wants to get it over with as fast and hard as possible. No orgasm :'(
She is ninja! My ears can barely keep up with her fingers.
