Well, James Rocchi and A.O. Scott look like twins and Roger Ebert like their uncle. Same hair, glasses and all three wear suits. Which means they all have the same background and they all think this new movies sucks.
The only good movies I've seen that weren't screened for critics were Snakes on a Plane, Drive Angry and Immortals. Other than that, all not screened for critics movies were terrible.
Let's be honest, there will be reviews on it, they cannot stop that. So if anything, you should be encouraging people not to see it, not bashing the choice of the developers.
Althred hitchcock did not show screenings for psycho because he wanted everyone to experience it at a time so the critics will not reck the twist ending.
@animatedrewier666 Certainly there are great movies like Psyco that are chosen not to be screen, but the majoroty of the movies that dont screen are horrible man.
I completely agree and believe so. I've been looking at the trailers on tv and since then knew that The darkest hour is going to suck and probably go straight to dvd.
John - while I do understand your sentiments, I think there are times when it makes sense to not screen for critics. A prime example would be a movie with a great twist ending that really helps to make the movie and the studio is worried that critics may spill the beans and hamper sales prior to the movie coming out (i.e. how did The Usual Suspects end). It doesn't seem too moronic considering some of the leaks recently, such as the embargo being broken on Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
I'm still gonna see it..the movie could be total trash, but I go to a movie based on whether it looks interesting to me or not. The Darkest Hour looks like a real good time, could be stupid, but goofy fun. Your theory is probably right, but I'm still gonna have to check it.
What about The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo? It hasn't had any screenings yet and it comes out next week! But it's a David Fincher film so I don't think it's gonna suck!
@TiggahG The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo has been screened already. Someone actually broke the embargo (which is to end tomorrow) by posting a review last week.
@Mrcool210 WB is promoting 4 films that all open within 4 weeks of each other next month. I'm pretty they can promote the only film they have coming out in the next while. Plus... Summit Studios has nothing to do with Ghost Rider or Spider-Man... those are both Sony Pictures.
totally agree, though the problem i have is some are picking and choosing who they want leaving it impossible at times you already know who'll be going
Every film that I have seen, which did not allow critics to screen it, was consistently bad. To me it is an advertisement that the film is bad, and the studios know it.
maybe they have forgotten about it...like sometimes when you forget to to buy milk from the
supermarket..?

Don't you think it's odd that there won't be critics screenings for The Darkest Hour, but there are public screenings for the same film?
