  • As a BBC Micro using kid / electronics geek in the 80s - this was a real treat to watch back then, as it still is now, and what strikes me now is - er, compared with TV today, this was very intelligent stuff !

  • I used to love this show. It's was so innocent and simple.

  • used to love this show when I was a young 'un.

  • @sherston I quite fancied Charmian Gradwell who had lovely long hair.

  • Grandfather used to turn into an aspadistra. lol

  • I loved this as a kid. Especially the salamander, the alien plant pots and the vortex game!

  • the producer of this died of drugs in 1998

  • @vania1013 "died of drugs"? Wow. Informative.

  • this used to scare the shit out of me when I was young.

  • Gronda Gronda

  • Drogna Drogna

  • I loved the Adventure Game. It was naff as anything, but in an endearing BBC-ish way.

  • is this ferdinando caseulli

  • Good show that!

    Zip

  • For anyone interested in getting hold of the theme to this show, which I adored as a kid, the piece is called "Duo in G, Opus 34" and was performed for the show by Julian Bream and John Williams :) Readily available on the net!

  • teatime tedium come on look at it its shit! bbc2 arse fodder.

  • Here are Adventure Games too...

Mystic Castle 66 by MCS Consulting

  • god i remember this -i loved it when i was a kid !

  • OMG I LOVE YOU!!! My sister and I LOVED this show so much and always felt like we were in some weird shared dream or something because no one else remembers it!

  • Thank you sooooooooooooooo much would love to be able to watch this again x

  • this just looks....stupid.

  • hyperspae laser relays? Contradiction in terms lmao

  • @JonnyInfinite that is the geekiest comment ever sir!! congrats!

  • @JonnyInfinite Does your voice sound like the argon at the end lol

  • no, not ghey, its just before your time :)

  • Richard Stilgoe kicked ass on Adventure Game.

  • Yes! The vortex! and the pretty much impossible puzzles the contestants had to solve.

  • Love it love it love it! looks soooo dated! but i love it all the same! Come on BBC bring it back!!!!!!!

  • is the adventure game out on dvd or vhs ?

  • Yes,now that would be good if they released this on dvd,as I used to watch this when I was younger.

The best part I liked was when they had to cross the vortex.

  • I used to love this, but those Argons were devious bastards... :p

  • Perspicacity, that's one hell of a word for a kids program. Almost all of the TV I used to watch had a very dark feel about it during this era, no wonder I had so many nightmares.

  • Don't upset the aspedistra! Gronda, gronda, rangdo

  • Being an 80's techno-kid i would have loved this show, i didn't see much of them, adventure-brain shows, smart kid shows which were all coming along with the advent of the home computer, all lovely & good :)

  • "Hyper-space laser relays!" Hahaha!

  • Arg-o-vision can now be found on sky channel 258.

  • For all seasons but the second this may have been theme tune. I happened to see the second one with Grieg's Norwegian Dance as the theme.

  • didnt it have a talking plant that use to squirt water?

and aniseed sweets on that puzzle game

  • Doogy rev, Doogy rev!

  • doogy rev !! i forgot about that. that was a bloke that cd 'only' speak backwards but that's all he could actually say

  • I bet this show stretched the BBC's special effects budget to the full limit of £4.50.

  • joohnny and zoe, fuck, whose the most irritating i dont know

  • johnny ball & 2 A N others

  • Incase anyone is wondering, the theme tune is;

    Rondo. Duo in G, Op34

    by Ferdinando Carulli.

    It can be found on;

    Julian Bream & John Williams

    Together

    The Ultimate Collection.

  • john williams and julian bream !!

  • carulli!!

  • omg , i remeber this lol : i feel old

  • I used to whatch this on BBC2,Can anyone remmember in 1986 when this was on and they interupted the program to show you the challenger shuttle blowing up?

That plant used to kill me LOL.

    Drogna!!!

  • It was one of those programmes on BBC2 you had to turn over to after watching Blue Peter and the wombles or whatever on BBC1. I guess therefore it started at either 5.40pm or 6pm, depending when they moved the BBC Evening news. I hope this helps!

  • spot on mate,i was young but i've got a good memory,lol

  • @rpitwood Was aired at 6pm on BBC2... so usual routine was Paddington or whatever at 1735, BBC1 news at 1740, switch over to BBC2 for Adventure Game while Nationwide was on BBC1...

  • I loved this programme as a kid none of my friends remember it.I thought i was going mad and had imagined it.the vortex was scary as a kid.wish i could get hold of a whole episode to show my boys.

  • Ahhh I loved this when I was a kid. Great TV

  • Bring it Back!

  • Gronda gronda, my lord!

  • The end with the vortex terrified me as a child.

This show has a slight 'Hitchhikers Guide' vibe n'est pas?

  • Doogy REV :]

  • Loofy Liss!

  • very good

  • Ahhh superb! Loved this when I was a kid - great stuff.

  • BEWARE THE VORTEX!!!!!!! Its alright though, everyone else can see it...

  • I think I remember this! God! Who was the narrator at the beginning?

  • i used to love watching this on bbc2,friday nights at 6 if i remember, does anyone remember the guy who always use to turn up talking backwards? And the king who was a plant who if you didnt give him the right gift he sprayed water at you!!

  • you mean uncle!didnt he turn into a teapot in a later series!

  • Classic telly, brings back lots of memories thanks for uploading this! They would never make a show like this these days, it would never get past the merchandising planners and marketing focus groups.

  • I remember this. I used to watch it as a boy in the 1980s.

  • Haven't seen this in years! I remember it had a very Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy feel about it. The host with the talking plant called Uncle reminded me of the William Hartnell doctor who. This show was the forerunner of "The Crystal Maze".

  • memories. i lived for this show (and tomorrows world, blakes 7 etc etc)

  • thanks for sharing, i mentioned this video in one of my vids and wanted to show people what i was on about.

    thanks again!

    *****

  • I have never seen a better TV series which employed the talents of a moving aspidistra. classic.

  • The early series was better, without the extras playing dress-up. They kind of had the same effect as the pantomime horse did on Rentaghost...

  • The amount of times i have tried to explain this show and people didnt believe it existed. im gonna show them this. thanks for posting. x

  • Quality

  • My dad was in an episode of this and would love to see it, so would be great to know where to a copy!

  • i loved this program, i remeber the vortex, which changed in the 2nd series, and the drogma coins they used to use.

  • Fabulous, what a lovely trip down memory lane. Thank you for posting.

  • is this the series with the plant that used to growl and vibrate??? thanks for posting

  • timeless!! This was my childhood years and i remember this so well... How time flies...

  • This was absolutely my favourite programme. Loved it.

  • You mean the "Vortex" ! lol, remember the plant that used to move when they walked into the room and they would all jump !

  • i used to love this as a kid, used to creep me out a bit though...especially that hex grid at the end with that invisible robot thing trying to get them. Good stuff.

  • Yes I can't find the episodes either!?

Does anybody know what happened to them, or where I can view the full episodes online?

  • I strongly suspect that they were removed due to terms of use violation, as another lot of vids- namely blakes7 episodes were removed and the users account suspended around the same time. (I have since discovered this.) If the user gets back online, Im sure he may be kind enough to send them as a private vid if he is added as a friend. Youtube shouldn't have a problem with that ( not that a twenty-odd yr old show- not even released should have caused a problem anyway)

  • giz a shout if you find a source will you please?

  • One of my favourite TV shows EVER. Thanks for sharing this. It brings back lots of good memories.

  • aaaargh! Somebody had posted lots of episodes of the adventure game on u tube and they have recently dissapeared!! I cant even remember the name of the user so I can't ask why, and where have they gone. Can anyone shed any light on the subject! I'm desperate to catch them!

  • DOOGY REV! How I loved this programme! Original, quirky, witty... I adored the interplay between the Argons and all those knotty problems...

High time for an official DVD release by Auntie Beeb. Thanks for uploading!

  • Second series used a different theme; according to Wikipedia, it was Norwegian Dance Opus 35, by Edvard Grieg.

FWIW, the second series was (I've just figured out) the first I saw, so I always thought of that as the "original" theme.

  • ...and the one heard here (used in series 1, 3 and 4) to be the "new" theme. I really missed the (not) "original" music when the third series came on. :-(

Wonder why they changed it then changed it back again. Oh well, I really like this theme now :-)

  • This used to be repeated on Challenge TV, absolutely hilarious and Moira Stuart as an Alien - priceless. We should get the Drogna instead of the Euro... ;)

  • I love it. Remember it well. I want to see the Vortex in action though. I remember the plant was called 'Grandad' and used to communicate by shaking it's leaves

  • omg! this used to freak me out but I loved it.

When i was a kid all my friends watched this, we used to play our own version of "The Vortex" using paving slab cracks, and blindfolds!

    god, do I sound old..

  • i wish they would repeat this it was brilliant!

  • Message to MisterWill9066 - No, Johnny Ball did not survive the Vortex and was indeed evaporated. The other two were Barbara Lott (who was in sitcom Sorry) and Liz Hobbs (who was a champion waterskier). All got evaporated - Johnny first, then Barbara and finally Liz. I have the episode in full but cant post it due it being a strange video format - sorry!

  • This thing used to really scare me - one wrong step on the vortex and they're vaporised.

  • wheres uncle??

  • We should have more quiz programmes today that include the word 'perspicacity' in the spoken intro.

  • thank you, me and my sister watched this a long time ago in a galaxy far far away

  • Where is Uncle?

  • FANTASTIC!!! Do you have ANY more clips at all? I always loved the theme and didnt ever realise it was John Williams until well after my classical guitar studying and I accidentally ran into the DUo in G on Williams-Bream soundtrack.

I especially loved the plant and the vortex at the end. I have never been able to find anyone who know this show, and Im glad I didnt dream it! Johnny Ball - did he survive the Vortex? Please please if you can assist me to find more I would give everything!

  • Thankyou indeed! Many fond memories of this show. Watching this, I felt 3 feet tall again :)

  • Classic show - about time our licence fee went on one decent repeat - Doogy rev indeed!

  • gronda gronda rangdo!

  • Doogy rev!

  • Wonderful, thanks

  • You are very welcome, glad you enjoyed! I loved this programme when I was a kid.
