  • Bunch of fucking whiners here. Oooh, these guys suck..., Microsoft should die... Apple blows....

Get your heads out of your asses. You don't like Bill Gates' vision of computing? Come up with something better. That's the whole point of this piece. Here's an industry that rewards original thinking and innovation. The only downside to the computer revolution is that it's spawned a generation of instant-gratification losers who don't deserve the great technology that they have.

    RIP, Steve Jobs.

  • Rest in Peace Steve Jobs - historical figure without a doubt!

  • What a whopping mistake. The first PC KIT was by Ed Roberts and the first PC as we know it today is Apple I By Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak. Actually Gate and Allen worked for Ed Roberts.

  • how can someone go to a fat doctor?

i mean if someone doesn't know how to take care of his own health, how can such a man even take care of others health?

  • @PornobrillenAli there's a wisdom in your words. But also we can find talented fashion designers or architects or painters, who knows the cost of style and beauty, but looks like a beggar with dirty hair. Paradox.

  • the best feeling ever is when your computer has a serious problem and nothing seems to work and you attack it with a bass ball bat....for me that was a thrill like no other lol

  • I watched this show on PBS a couple years ago. And I'll repeat what I said then: Although this is an interesting documentary about Mr. Cringley's view of the world, there's a LOT of stuff missing. For example, why does it appear as if Apple was the only computer company making 8-bit computers? The words "Commodore" and "MOS" (makers of the 6502 processor on which the first Apple computers were based) aren't even mentioned, for example. I understand there are time limits, but it smells like bias.

  • Jobs, and especially Wozniak, seem like nice guys in this. Why is it that I hate Apple now? At what point did they become an arrogant company people hate?

  • @TokyoStreetReport Big money came into play and Jobs in particular is used to stocks and bonds now vs flower power. Today they do what they blamed Microsoft for in the past, stealing other people's ideas for their products without giving them credit for it. The latest is Incase's Convertible Magazine Jacket, otherwise known as Apple's "Smart Cover".

  • "i never did it for the money ...." "but keep buying a new iphone every year for double the price of the competition please"

  • RIP Ed Roberts

  • Isn't there another documentary with the same title that covers the Internet boom of the late 90s? I remember the narrator interviewing the founders of Excite.com.

  • @Malocosa Nerds 2.0.1: A Brief History of the Internet.

  • That first shot of the narrator sure lives up to his name: "Cringley"

  • Thanks for uploading this Crackmate. Very cool. I'll check out Part Two tomorrow.

  • International Business Machine. Man, they made ugly (manual) typewriters! But boy, were they a force with computers.

  • "i never did it for the money"

    **snicker, snicker** riiiiiight

  • @stendulker2

he probably believes the bullshit he is spewing out his mouth.

  • Les Paul in the back.

    Fuck yeah.

  • "apple had emerged as the top fungus".....XD

  • Hang on, did that say Channel Four? What THE Channel Four? Margaret Thatcher's dysfunctional teenage kid, Channel Four?

  • Cool, thanks for uploading. Very interesting!!

  • Why were they so furry?

  • At that time, men were very formal and wore suits and ties and had short neat haircuts. But the younger generation wanted to do their own thing and rebel against their parents/bosses/teachers. So as part of their rebellion, they let their hair grow long and didn't shave.

  • Are programs like c++, c , Basic, etc. used to make software.

  • yeah... basic isnt really used anymore... c, c++, vb, java etc r used a LOT!

  • well you have banks still running cobol, you have autocad using lisp, a train shedule software company i worked for develop in lisp, i'm sure there's still a comercial basic app running somewhere on this world :)

  • Fortran is very popular among phycisists... too much for may taste.. I prefer C or Objective C.

  • @nagarjun424 But BASIC is the best programming language to learn when you are 10. It will give you a better understanding of others.

  • @tutorialconr It's great because it's easy to grasp, but more important than the actual code learned it's often the first real introduction a person gets into learning how to visualize and break a larger problem or idea into pieces that can be tackled in a logical manner.

  • @nagarjun424 Well, vb is "Visual Basic". Although it has left its predecessor's form for an object oriented language, it still holds to its name for a reason :)

  • they are languages which are used to write software

  • @rockingmasterofnerd I use C (almost daily) and C++. On rare occasions I use assembly.

  • @rockingmasterofnerd C++, C, and BASIC aren't programs, they are programming languages, which are used to make programs.

  • @rockingmasterofnerd yeay, they're Programming Languages & these days Basic is more commonly used as Visual Basic...

  • Are programs Like c++, c, BASIC, etc. used to make software.

  • How did Bill gates make windows. Did he just write a version of BASIC? Please tell me. I really want to know.

  • He had many programmers working on windows. It first came out in 1985 as Windows 1.1, but didn't really become popular till 1990 with the release of Windows 3. Apple and Microsoft went through trial after trial because the look and feel of Windows was getting extremely close to the Mac OS. The Look and Feel are not trademark-able, but they are copyrightable. Apple lost and Windows 3 sold over 30,000,000 copies the first year making it the dominate OS in the market.

  • Thanks alot. Now I get it.

  • Wozniak Rules !

  • What were the fundings anyway? I forget. All I remember is 3Com.

  • Any fundings?

  • It's actually the Altair 8080 not the 8800 has you stated in the bio to the movie clip.

  • Isn't 8080 just the name of the Intel processor inside the Altair 8800?

  • where's the story about IBM?

  • In part two of three.
