The "odd stuff" on the comb they're drawing is, in my commercial beekeeper opinion, typical of plastic foundation, black or white. Your positive expreience with the black Brushy Mtn foundation in the first hive is unusual in my experience. PerhapsBrushy Mtn just does a better job coating it than the suppliers I've used.
Good job on the videos. The instructions are simple and easy to follow. You have encouraged me to start beekeeping this spring. Do you have a problem with ants? If so, how do you keep them from the hive? I don't have the fire ants on my property but I have the small black ants. They call them sugar ants here in Alabama.
interesting video, but you should really fire the cameraman, i can't watch the whole thing, it gives me a headache with all the bouncing arounding and everything out of focus
@zyxwvutsrqponml12345 You see the "cameraman" quit after this video. All the big dollars we are making by putting these videos out you know, he wanted a raise and we just couldn't afford it..... Seriously guy, it's FREE. If you don't want to watch this free video we made with our own time and money then don't. If you want Spielberg effects, go PAY for the movies. Always one complainer in every couple hundred.
The reason the bees are draw the comb out disproportionately is because of a reaction to the plastic foundation, not the frame fit. I would suggest crimp wire wax foundation ALWAYS. Wood and wax baby.
ME TOO,cant beat it,i just don't trust Plastic,it also has chemicals in it,if God would have wanted Bees to make Plastic he would have given them the ability Produce it,right?.Also i feed my Bees Honey Water,i Keep enough saved to feed them through the winter or when there be a Lack of Honey,i think its called a Honey Dearth.sugar is a Poison just reserch on it and you will see,Beekeepers have Debated me about this for years, and now they see that i have been right all along,i am "Old Sch". :-)
Best time to start" BeeKeeping" is during the 1st week of April, and when you use "package Bees",trust me guys and gals ,buy the 2 boxes of "Bees",not he 1 box, there strength in Numbers,it will help your "Bees" get off to a good start during the "Fruit Bloom Season" which is during "April". I am a 20 yr BeeKeeper and i've learned from experience, the more "Bees" in the "Hive" the stronger the "Colony".If any of you have Questions on "Beekeeping" visit my YouTube site. Thanks, D. :-)
Depends on the area of the country one is in. We can get packages in March down here and by late April they are increased substantially. Sure you could put 2 packages in one hive (and 1 queen, not 2 queens) but that would be a waste of money IMO. Our nectar season starts in March, heck there is some blooms NOW. Depends a lot on what part of the country you are in. Good self promotion!
I would like to raise bees , but I am having a hard time convincing my husband. I think it would be great to get away from processed sugar and use only honey.
I know nothing about bees..3 questions. is it really necessary to completely pull the frames out to inspect them? 2) appears bees would get squished while sliding frames back in. how do you avoid that? 3) how many seasons are a colony good for? thx for these videos!
Just saw this comment, sorry for the lack of response:
If you want to really inspect the colony then yes, it's necessary to remove frames. VERY very few bees are harmed in that, you put it in slow and the bees move out of the way, there is "bee space" around each frame. Colonies don't "go bad" but their is a multitude of problems they can get including mites, wax moths, beetles, AFB, EFB, Nosema, etc. Watch the 11th one with the pests, it's heartbreaking.
You all are giving me the confidence to start my own hives. My goal is to have them this spring. We all must learn how to be self sufficient. Keep up the great work. Michael
It's definitely valid. There will be new videos on BOTH accounts. It's always been a cooperative effort. We just happened to find a digital video camera on sale recently ;) Thanks for sub'ing!

would these bees swarm and attack you if they were mad? What makes them mad?
melissacarl2002 2 years ago
Keeping watching the series, bees don't "swarm" cause they are mad.

Better health, better for your gardens, orchards, flowers, very relaxing hobby, some side cash.
. If he's a liberal try the "save the earth" routine. Liberals seem to be easily led by that slogan.

@OptikNerv1138 to answer Number 2 the frames dont extend all the way to the bottom so bees arent squished
