Everytime I read the bible, I feel encouraged by God's words. This marriage of the church with the Roman Government led to the formation of the Roman Catholic Church. Doctrine was defined and developed in a way that best served the purpose of the Roman government. The Reformation in the 16th C. challenged these false teachings with biblical Christianity from Holy writ and thousands were martyred for their opposition. Roman church is HUGE!

Osteen did not deny Jesus at all as the only way. He agreed with the caller just as he said. Christians need to listen ( for once ) and that is good enough. Did he have to speak louder for you? His statement, "I agree with her..." is enough. The critics who are on the right who are born again are still yet ignorant of Osteen being used by God. Therein lies the problem. Osteen's gift is evident yet Christian critics refuse to be mature enough to see this.
There are 2 kinds of preachers: those who preach the things of the earth (success, prosperity, anointing, etc.) and those who teach the things from above. The first ones call on their followers to seek first at things from below while the second ones teach that men should seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and thus the things from below will also be given over to them. Discern to which category any preacher belongs to and make the choice to listen to them or not.

I've been a Christian all my life. My father was a Senior pastor for over 30 yrs. I am very skeptical about MANY preachers& I was particularly about Joel until I went to one of his rallies almost forced. There was an incredible presence of the Holy Spirit in that place. While his style may not be my no.1 preference, while I listen to his worship teams productions more than his preachings, I've seen the fruit of his teachings transform the lives of many people despite my own skeptic thinking.

Yes, I can tell by the language and outbursts of wrath from followers like you. Listen, the Catholic church leads people to Christ- that doesn't mean they're not preaching false doctrine. The real issue is that no one leads anyone to Christ, but God Himself, and He can use dishonest men to do so. This is why Paul said: "But what does it matter? The important thing is that in every way, whether from false motives or true, Christ is preached. And because of this I rejoice."

I listened to Osteen in his "church", and he gave a false assurance of salvation to everyone there that mumbled a prayer, without any discussion of sin, repentance, needing a Savior,..... and when he quoted Scripture, (it was very rare) it was misquoted and turned on it's head. These people don't read their Bibles, and think that Osteen is preaching the Gospel. He isn't. It saddens me how many he is leading astray not showing them they are condemned already without Christ. For Joel to discuss these things would reveal the ramification of physical, spiritual, and eternal death that leads not only to separation of body, soul, and spirit from God, but to hopeless separation in eternal torment. I am not understanding how you can claim Joel Osteen is teaching Christless Christianity when he speaks of God all the time. God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit make up the Holy Trinity, they are all one. In his sermons, he preaches straight from the Bible. Perhaps you should do more research before bashing someone. I listen to him every week and have 2 of his books. A message isn't "Bible-based" because it uses 2 verses out of context--satan uses some truth to hide lies. If Osteen said, "Don't worry about want God wants--focus more on success & tell yourself sin doesn't matter," no one would listen. This IS what he convinces people to do - they just don't see the slight-of-hand & we're not to be judgmental, but we're also not to be BLIND.
In a era where people don't feel good about themselves it is encouraging that someone would make them feel good about themselves and be God based. Yes, hell is real but God is a good of love and just like Jabez it is ok for us to want the best with our lives. Joel along with a bible based bible class and bible based sermon is ok by me. I've been troubled by "evangelists" like Osteen and others of his type. I haven't been able to articulate clearly what is wrong with them aside from a few points.
This video quite clearly articulated many of the areas that troubled me and even pointed out some new ones I hadn't thought of. Now I understand my own beliefs that much better.
So how are these people going to keep the smile on their faces during the Tribulation and especially the Great Tribulation?? How is Joel going to explain "their worst life" during this period? They've been really really bad??
It is sooooo easy for me to see who is speaking truth and who is deceptive. I just read through the comment section and I find Lane to be an honest, straightforward, truth seeker. I found those debating him to be misleading, shifty, side stepping, and obfuscating. How much more do we need to see? I'd be willing to bet that if Lane was shown scripture that illustrated his error, he would simply correct it, and say thanks. Lane stands in the light and I thank God for him-a fine tool in His belt.

He's taken the gospel of Jesus Christ & turned it into a new age pop christianity with no commitment, no sacrifice (even of Jesus) no sins being attoned for - just like they said - it's cotton candy. No substance, rotten teeth.
I studied with a local scholar in houston and even he has some reservations about osteen. I think anyone who is sucked in to this decadent so called ministry needs to get some perspective. I have a neighbor who literally moved here simply to go to his church and I truly fear for her vunerability. The main red flag is tons of pep me ups with little sound scriptural guidance. If you're a christian than you need to know first (stressed by an orthodox priest once) that you can trust no one but God!
It's very easy to sincerly get sucked into the "God wants you to prosper" message, which has it's place. But the problem with such messaGes is that it takes the focus off GOD and unto ourselves and the hedonistic life "God" can give us. Everytime I read the bible, I feel encouraged by God's words. There are so many Christians around the world who do not think they are good enough - who do not have enough faith that they can do all things "through Christ who strengtheneth them" - says the bible. The bible can be interpreted in a Joel Olsteen way and the way these critics of Joel preach.
These critics also misquote or pick and choose biblical verses as does Joel.
For example there are promises of abundance and prosperity AS BLESSINGS OF GOD throughout many parts of the bible - as Joel quotes. Of course wealth can be misused and lead to sin - but it isnt sin in itself - wealth and abundance is used as a sign of the Lords blessing and as a warning

This marriage of the church with the Roman Government led to the formation of the Roman Catholic Church. Doctrine was defined and developed in a way that best served the purpose of the Roman government. The Reformation in the 16th C. challenged these false teachings with biblical Christianity from Holy writ and thousands were martyred for their opposition. Roman church is HUGE!

Osteen did not deny Jesus at all as the only way. He agreed with the caller just as he said. Christians need to listen ( for once ) and that is good enough. Did he have to speak louder for you? His statement, "I agree with her..." is enough. The critics who are on the right who are born again are still yet ignorant of Osteen being used by God. Therein lies the problem. Osteen's gift is evident yet Christian critics refuse to be mature enough to see this.

There are 2 kinds of preachers: those who preach the things of the earth (success, prosperity, anointing, etc.) and those who teach the things from above. The first ones call on their followers to seek first at things from below while the second ones teach that men should seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and thus the things from below will also be given over to them. Discern to which category any preacher belongs to and make the choice to listen to them or not.

It's so different to just listen to this transcript of what Joel has preached. He's so nice and charming when I am watching him on TV but to just hear the words with my eyes closed, I can hear the deception in there! Joel is USING Jesus. He's a motivational speaker but he represents that he has a church therefore he is exempt from a lot of taxes!!!! Shameful. Do other motivational speakers get those same tax-breaks? No. But God can open anyones ears, sometimes I just gotta close my eyes!!

Salvation is by the grace of God through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Does Joel forget that Judgment is quickly apporaching. That the day of the Lord is a fixed date on God's calender? God is love but God is also righteous and Holy He will not let sin pass ALL sin will be punished. Sin will either be punished in the Lord Jesus Christ (for those that accept the atonement of Christ) or it will be punished in a person for all eternity in hell. This is the reality!!! NOT cars happiness and wealth

The Bible says Jesus will be the Judge He was once a Lamb of God on the cross but at the Great White Throne Judgment Jesus will become like a Lion from the tribe of Judah!!! I've been a Christian all my life. My father was a Senior pastor for over 30 yrs. I am very skeptical about MANY preachers& I was particularly about Joel until I went to one of his rallies almost forced. There was an incredible presence of the Holy Spirit in that place. While his style may not be my no.1 preference, while I listen to his worship teams productions more than his preachings, I've seen the fruit of his teachings transform the lives of many people despite my own skeptic thinking.

The real issue is that no one leads anyone to Christ, but God Himself, and He can use dishonest men to do so. This is why Paul said: "But what does it matter? But, even with that being said, when Joel goes on TV and refuses to say Jesus is the only way to the Father, not only is he not preaching Christ, but he's implying Jesus and the gospel are lies. Now, anyone whose only exposure to the gospel was that broadcast is going to be turned away from getting saved by what Joel said.

You are right about Joel Osteen being too positive about God. But God is a good God. If God is this mean god, why would you want to go to be with him? Joel put his trust in Jesus for salvation and he invite his audiance to do the same at each service. He is not trying to earn his salvation like some people. I turely think Joel got it. I listened to Osteen in his "church", and he gave a false assurance of salvation to everyone there that mumbled a prayer, without any discussion of sin, repentance, needing a Savior,..... and when he quoted Scripture, (it was very rare) it was misquoted and turned on it's head. These people don't read their Bibles, and think that Osteen is preaching the Gospel. He isn't. It saddens me how many he is leading astray not showing them they are condemned already without Christ. What a sham.

For Joel to discuss these things would reveal the ramification of physical, spiritual, and eternal death that leads not only to separation of body, soul, and spirit from God, but to hopeless separation in eternal torment. However, how is public criticism of Joel fulfilling the Word of God.
Doesn't the Word say we should talk to a brother in error BEFORE publicly denouncing him? Have these men talked to Joel personally?
Why do many "Christians" have to have someone to hate? to criticize? to compare themselves to and say "hey, I'm better than he"?

I am not understanding how you can claim Joel Osteen is teaching Christless Christianity when he speaks of God all the time. God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit make up the Holy Trinity, they are all one. In his sermons, he preaches straight from the Bible. Perhaps you should do more research before bashing someone. I listen to him every week and have 2 of his books. Never mind the fact that the Bible itself states that ONLY God can judge. That may be the book you might want to concentrate on.

Please read the first 5 verses in 2 Timothy.Christ Jesus judges the living and the dead. Also it says that we will seek teachers to suit our own passions, and that we will turn away from the truth. Most of what Joel teaches sounds great and makes you feel good, but I am afraid it is spreading a very shallow faith. I hope that he begins to read and understand the scriptures. Jesus did the work.

In these 4 videos they don't bash JO, they simply point out the things he says and match them up with scripture and biblical teaching showing how they don't reflect each other. Simply mentioning "g-o-d" doesn't automatically make your preaching christ-centered. And JO said himself that he doesn't like to use much scripture.
And no one is judging. You can know a tree by it's fruit. Is it wrong to use scripture to examine a person's teachings? Absolutely not.

You are correct. The thing is, why does everybody get into this "OHHHH WE CAN'T JUDGE PEOPLE" mode? by saying that so and so is judgemental is in fact a judgement in itself. Christ says if we are to judge, then judge rightiously. Does that sound like we cannot judge people? Don't use the verse that says, judge not lest ye be judged if you don't know the context. It is simply saying that if you judge people, you had better not be a hypocrite because you will be judged by the same standard.

Christian teaching is not just speaking about 'God'. Event the gnostics and other heretics did use the word 'God' to justify their false teachings.
His feel-good theology is potentially dangerous and misleading. It not about feeling good but being good through Jesus Christ!

Yes, God wants us to be better parents, children, siblings, etc. BUT, first-and-foremost, God wants to accept His Son, Jesus Christ, as LORD and Savior!
THEN, he wants to be better Christians - which would make us better parents, children, siblings, etc. - not because we have to but because we will want to be so that we can lead others to Christ too!

In a era where people don't feel good about themselves it is encouraging that someone would make them feel good about themselves and be God based. Yes, hell is real but God is a good of love and just like Jabez it is ok for us to want the best with our lives. Joel along with a bible based bible class and bible based sermon is ok by me. I've been troubled by "evangelists" like Osteen and others of his type. I haven't been able to articulate clearly what is wrong with them aside from a few points.
This video quite clearly articulated many of the areas that troubled me and even pointed out some new ones I hadn't thought of. Now I understand my own beliefs that much better.

It is sooooo easy for me to see who is speaking truth and who is deceptive. I just read through the comment section and I find Lane to be an honest, straightforward, truth seeker. I found those debating him to be misleading, shifty, side stepping, and obfuscating. How much more do we need to see? I'd be willing to bet that if Lane was shown scripture that illustrated his error, he would simply correct it, and say thanks. Lane stands in the light and I thank God for him-a fine tool in His belt.

I agree and don't agree with the blessing message. I believe it is GOD's will for us to be blessed so we can bless others. Not pour it on ourselves. I find Osteen very unbalanced...where is the Cross, the Blood, the Ressurection, Eternal life,etc....
my question is for myself is how do I become balanced..I bounce from "bless me" to complete legalism...I seem to be at an extreme one way or the other..how do I balance that?

I studied with a local scholar in houston and even he has some reservations about osteen. I think anyone who is sucked in to this decadent so called ministry needs to get some perspective. I have a neighbor who literally moved here simply to go to his church and I truly fear for her vunerability. The main red flag is tons of pep me ups with little sound scriptural guidance. If you're a christian than you need to know first (stressed by an orthodox priest once) that you can trust no one but God!

It's very easy to sincerly get sucked into the "God wants you to prosper" message, which has it's place. But the problem with such messaGes is that it takes the focus off GOD and unto ourselves and the hedonistic life "God" can give us. Thinking like that turn God into cosmic genieit and our Bibles into a magic lamp, and we forget about sin,redemption or walking according to THE BIBLE.

I see a host of criticism against modern day pastors. The question is, are they all imposters trying to woo a generation into their way of thinking or have they all drunk from the same corrupted source? It's difficult to say that all these pastors as well as many others are dishonest with their profession. I do believe You do know what invite Jesus into your heart is ... you just want to find fault with this man.... and so you will continue to.
If you dont know listen to Joel he defines it at the end of his sermons.

I never claimed to not know what it means nor do I disavow knowledge of the thousands if not millions of people that "prayer" has given a false assurance to. So again, my question, my request is "Find me a verse in Scripture that supports asking Jesus to come into your heart." I find fault with fault and something that isn't Biblical that's asserted as being Biblical is fault regardless if it's Joel Osteen, James White, Paul Washer, or Winnie the Pooh.

LaneCh, how do you know people aren't coming to Christ? All a person must do is what Pastor Osteen enourages them to do at the end of his sermon. "If your not saved, invite Jesus into your heart, get in a good Bible based church." Yes, it's that simple, growth as a Christian is another thing but that happens day by day, or one day at a time by reading the Bible and asking God to show them how they should live daily. Why do people have to make it so hard??

I agree. "Your best life now" Could be your worst life later. Joel is not preacher sent by God.

Yeah! Joel takes sin and hell out of his message. If you take out sin, there's no need for the cross, if you take away the cross then you might as well take away Christianity!

We need to do more than just invite Jesus into our heart,what good is that if Jesus is not active in our life,do we invite Him into our lives just to put a lid on Him and render Him powerless to act in our lives?NO,we need to be living our lives according to the ENTIRE Word of God,not just the parts that make us feel good about ourselves,we dont just 'tac' God onto the end of our 'self gospel'except Jesus in full OR dont bother at all,Jesus never minced words,so anyone who does is not IN CHRIST

@Terri3210 I dont want to appear sarcastic or anything i am a newborn in christ, a babe if you figure. But to be honest with you I have not come across the passage of inviting jesus into my heart. I don't see it anywhere nor any implications but the more i read his word and believe it and do it...... I have seen changes in my attitude, love towards him and a shift of how i see this world and the things in ti.

The god Osteen preaches bears little resemblence to the high and holy God of the Bible. I think Ken said it best; low view of God and sin. Plus no grace whatsoever. Scary stuff. Repulsive.

Even Satan can transform himself into an angel of light. (2Cor 11:14) Joel doesn't preach against sin. You have to ask the question... would Satan? Would one of them who works for Satan or is controlled by Spirits of his even if the man wasn't aware of it? As Christians, we are commanded to protect the flock by exercises biblical discernment. Joel fails.

What he's preaching is fine, for WORLDLY benefit. . . there's nothing wrong with having confidence. . . i think.
However, this man is claiming that believing in YOU will get you into heaven, and everything will be fine. After all, we're all GOOD PEOPLE.
Wrong. you will not get into heaven because you are GOOD, you will however get into heaven because God is good and forgives those who believes that they are saved through christ.
