  • Pan Am and Mad Men are two great shows set in the greatest decade. Classy shows. I love the music in both.

  • Just heard this on Mad Men Season 2. Great song.

  • TNT for sure!

  • This style of music is unreal and heartfelt. There isn't one minute in the day where I don't wish I was born in this era.

  • So sexy!

  • i would like to sing this song with my buddy keith on karoke night love you keith

  • This song was out in the best years of the USA. It will never be the same again

  • America, why you stopped making this type of music for god sake?

  • @Ziadalabbady good question

  • @Ziadalabbady A good good question!!!

  • young black teenager here who loves hip-hop but this song also -_-

  • From a time back when Nashville kicked butt! Everything from here sucks now!

  • This is music thats all that needs to be said

  • alikah1 linda was not singing in the 60s,,she started in the 70s or 80s i think

  • brenda lee no # 1,,,,, no# 2 lesley gore,,no# 3 connie francis,,,no# 4 skeeter davis,,,no#5 pasty cline,,,, my top five female singer of this[my] era

  • @09bnunez What? No room for Linda Ronstadt on that list?

  • I have always loved Brenda's voice through the decades. She has a tonal quality that conveys so much emotion whether it is "Rockin' around the Christmas Tree", "Sweet Nothings" or this song that digs so deeply into her soul, and mine. Her phrasing is like no other performer of years ago or today and stands with the very best like Judy Garland, Sarah Vaughn, Patsy Cline, Dolly Parton and Etta James. I just heard it on Pan Am On Demand, and recognized her voice. It is totally unique.

  • The Little Girl with the Big Voice

  • Met Brenda in 1958. I was 10 and she was 14. Lived in Atlanta and neighbors were connected to the Nashville music industry. Only about 4' 10" but what a voice. Remember she wore the shirtwaist dresses with full skirts and always had on ballarina slippers. Real name was Brenda Mae Tarpley. Was fortunate enough to spend some time around her in those days. Known as the "one take wonder". Thanks to the creators of PAN AM for jaring our souls. Talent like this is lost and needs to be remembered

  • Hey, those dislike "victims" go buy new speakers or a surround sound does wonders!

  • The best song I've heard in awhile!

  • That was such an emotional scene on Pan Am :'( Love these type of songs tho!!! <3

  • Pan Am Brought me here!!

  • I heard this too on Pan Am...Best Show on TV right now. I wrote the name of song down, went to sleep....woke up and had to run to you tube to listen to this beautiful song.

  • @LindaW48 guess im in the same boat

  • Brenda Lee had a great version here, but Juice Newton really made the song in 1982!

  • 3 dislikes? i guess someones audio software has some glitches in it.

  • @sunmanpatoo LOL That's about right! It's nice to hear a song that we can understand the lyrics ,and not only that,we can "feel" them too.I absolutely love that you posted this one! Thank you from my heart ♥♥

  • Heard this on PanAm last night, and remembered the good old music we used to have on American Bandstand....I wanna go back in time.Women dressed like women & men didn't wear their pants hanging half off! LOL!!! Anyway, love this song and the old days ways! ♥♥♥ Thanks for this post! ♥♥♥

  • Nagy Kedvencem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Still a great song

  • What a classic by a classy gal. Thanks for this one!

  • A wonderful recording --- laid back piano backing by Floyd Cramer helps makes this a gem.

  • Anybody got a lead sheet or even a tab they'll share?

  • She is the best love her songs, her voice.......I regret not be part of that music on the 60's when everything was romantic......God Bless her and thanks for her music.....love you Brenda!!!!!

  • mad men... couldn't let that song slip through my fingers

  • best lyrics are from this lady... listening to all her songs today, and i never realized.

  • I've grew up on HER music. I sure miss those days. Her music never dies for a sensative hearts.

  • Knew Brenda Mae Tarpley aka Brenda Lee in the late 50s early 60s. I was just a kid of 10 and she was about 14. Always remember how she was a one take wonder. Walked in the studio made the recording and said " I think thats as good as its gonna get boys" and went home. She was always as good as it gets. Thanks for the memories

  • Great sound. Very clear, even on my computer speakers.. Thanks for posting.

  • just discovered this song yesturday (although i`m sure one of the girls sang this on X-factor last year)

  • Thumbs up if Mad Men brought you here!!

  • @spamala12345 and i thought she was black! LoL

  • @spamala12345 I'm a huge Mad Men fan and when I heard this right after Don & Betts had the confrontation, this song was perfect for that situation.

  • Screw that stupid ass svengaligraves. I'm of the young generation and I LOVE old songs, including this one. Compared to shit today, these songs really are "oldies but goodies"

  • Back in the early 80's Morgan Brittany appeared on a tv show and she sang this song. She blew me away with her rendition of this song. If anyone out there happens to have this recording please post it so we all can hear her version. She is not only beautiful, she can sing. Just like Linda Carter. I did not know that she could also sing. Beauty and voice. What great assets!!!!!!!

  • @svengaligraves, blow it out ur young ass dickhead, this music is too cool

  • Yes very good but I much prefer Juice Newton's remake, nothing against Brenda.

  • Brenda's a legend in my books!

  • @svengaligraves13 SHAME on YOU

  • @svengaligraves13 lol I bet U are only 13, shit iam 30 and i dig this music,,,music with class,,,one of many things lost today,,sux.your post's shows that. What a waste. How much U have to learn about life,,dont think iam a goodie goodie,i have played with gg allin and other punk rock bands and still do,, as well as other styles,,open your mind.

  • I've heard this song before, but I really listened to it for the first time sitting at McDonald's this morning. WOW!!!!!!! Don't know much about 60's or 70's, but this is one powerful song.....REALLY!!!!

    kdfatman02

  • Ahhhh my Dad's favorite singer....miss you Dad♥

  • It's at the end of Mad Men, Season 2, Episode 7, "The Gold Violin". Very pretty. The Brenda Lee song I remember best is "I'm Sorry"---love that one.

  • Yes, the 50s and 60s were wonderful unless you were a woman or anything other then a white man. The songs may be great but we have a much better life now - let's not forget that. Romance isn't dead, be thankful we have computers where we can listen to these wonderful songs right at our fingertips.

  • @ellechick13 I couldn't agree more - it's easy to remember only the good parts of the past, or if you weren't alive, then to romanticize the past. I bet folks in the 50's looked back wistfully to the 30's.

  • oh what a hit ...a decade when romancin was a tender xpression...too bad is not applied to the fullest now days.

  • how great is that?? thank you so much for the REAL GOOD stuff. jg

  • she was a fantastic singer, those were the days when all singers could only make it when they really had a great voice. these times now seem "tempi pasati",

  • Cyndi Lauper, eat your heart out! Not really- love you 2, Cyndi! Just not quite the same. Sure as heck sound alike, though.

  • Sounds as good as ever - Brenda's voice is stirring!

  • Sounds as good as ever - Brenda's voice is stirring.

  • GREAT ARTIST !!

  • she speaks to me

  • brenda brenda brenda you are so so fabulous.just beautiful as always. much appreciation and thanks.

  • how can 3 thumbs be turned down? must have dozed and tapped in their sleep. but thanks for this great 2:39 i'll be back to hear this again. jg

  • Brenda had a voice. We wore out her 45s on the jukeboxes. They would have to replace them they got played so much.

  • Morgan Brittany appeared in a TV show in the mid-80s and she sang this song. She was excellent in the performance of this song. I think I recorded the show in a VHS tape but I can,t find it. I have it somewhere in my house. If anyone has this recording please upload so we all can hear her magnificent version. I am looking for it and if I can upload it you will see and hear what I'm talking about.

  • the one, the only, the original Brenda Lee. She was a pint sized powerhouse vocalist with so much soul!! Amazing. Miss those times.

  • this song was like playing when I was getting dumped.

  • everbody says that juice newton sing this brenda lee classic better than she does r u... kidding? ........brenda is the best ..........brenda lee is the best heart to heart singer ever........no 1 FAN RIGHT HERE...........

  • fiftyroc53 she sings with her heart not her vocal cords loves all her songs. have her hits on casette, many people make me offer to buy it noooooo way big fan ...long live brenda

  • CHRISTINA AGUILERA SINGING THIS AT 9 YEARS OLD IS MUCH BETTER VOCALLY.

  • @jdiego000 come on. no one matches brenda lee. and when others try to copy her style they cannot. especially vocaly.

  • Comment removed

  • i have sung this fabulous song Joice Newton also does a fabulous version of this wonderful brenda lee song thanks for posting :)

  • to my wulf, love you so much, and hope you enjoy this beautiful song as much as I have what a voice, what a performer. There is no one like her......Hope she keeps on singing such beautiful songs for us..........

  • this is such a beautiful song, heard it by other singers and no one compares to brenda lee , she is awesome.

  • i have heard this by many other singers, and there is no one that sings it like brenda lee what a awesome voice, and she puts it across so well you could almost cry.

  • I miss the simpler life back in the fifties and early sixties when songs like this were all the rage and romance was still alive in the hearts of lovers. Brenda Lee touched our hearts and spoke our feelings back then.

  • @dennismcquinn good comment.

  • @dennismcquinn You said it all

  • @dennismcquinn If I might ask how old are you sir?

  • @dennismcquinn Great comments i agree with you i think she is still

currant today if only the young one listened ??? wonderful voice

  • @dennismcquinn yes.... April 1959 thru summer of 1961... my first and love of my life... then I lost him..

  • @dennismcquinn Just finding out who Brena Lee is after 5 years, Finished watching a good episode of Mad Men tonight where this ended the show. Wonderful.

  • @georgebrown91 I thought I'd seen every episode, one of my favorite shows, but HOW did I miss this if Brenda was singing this song at end of episode? You are talking of season that ended 3 months ago? Your post says you posted comment 2 wks ago, I've noticed that YTube doesn't seem as accurate on time of postings as used to be.

  • Life was definitely simpler, but the emotions were the same.

  • @dennismcquinn Dennis, you are so right. You description fits so well. And Brenda is forever!

  • @dennismcquinn i agree!

  • @dennismcquinn I miss those days too, and I was only a kid during that time.

  • @dennismcquinn I totally agree

  • @dennismcquinn I have to agree, it was a simpler time, simpler life style. Although at the time it didn't seem so. Especially with matters of the heart. Hindsight is always 20/20!

  • One great voice, never to be duplicated.

  • Perfect song .

  • Love you Brenda !!!! Brilliant voice and performance ! Thank you for sharing

  • Heard this in Mad Men and couldn't think of a better track to match the scene.

  • Brenda still has an incredible voice all the years later. That quality in her voice makes you know it is her trademark sound. This song is fantastic!

  • YES! YES! YES! Thanx for posting:)

  • love this song also...

  • I'd bang her in her prime. She was hot.

  • WOW! how great was that? thanks so much. jg

  • Juice Newton!!!

  • I just love this song <3

  • Just watched an episode of Mad Men and this song played. It was such a perfect ending! Ah! I love this song so much.

  • This one powerful song and singer. I have not heard anyone sing it like she did.

  • I'm a 20 year old male and I LOVE this song. It's just amazing. Might not be 'cool' but this song is really really good

  • @JoshuaUK I'm 23, female, but still. It's music like this, that I wish was still played and recorded. The oldies will always be the best, by far. It's nice to see someone else who is young and loves this song as much as I do. :)

  • There's NO voice like Brenda's.

  • My teenaged (at one time) heart is still in love with Brenda Lee. I listened to her thousands of times and loved this distinctly Nashville/Owen Bradley sound. She was an icon in the earliest 60s and loved by many boys like I was. I had her pix on my b.r. wall, and her songs on a tape loop in my head. I would still love to meet her just to say, "Thanks, Brenda". I learned to sing some high notes before my voice changed, singing your LPs and hit singles. You deserve the best...

  • "if you must take your love take it gradually..." what a heart piercing song... i don't think anyone else can sing this song with such emotional fury as she did.

  • That voice is incredible.

  • nice voice&music

  • Semper Fi to all you groundpounders. I came to the US alone as a teenager in 1960 from Scotland. My parents had been

killed in Ireland fighting the Brits. I became a citizen and joined up in '67.

I served in Nam from Dec. '67 to Jul. 70

when I was hit the 3rd time and sent home. Here's to all that have served and are serving now. You guys come home safe.

  • great lady. Semper Fi here also....love to hear the oldies...thanks for sharing.

  • I love Breda Lee. She is so great , but we don't hear her songs very often.

I'm from Uruguay South America and I saw her in 1959 in Montevideo.

We need to more songs sung by her

  • Xmas eve 1962 my dad danced with her on stage at the USO Club in Naples Italy

  • She is a very talented Lady ! Have always been a fan . I bet your dad was in Heaven in those moments ! I support the USO since I was helped there once .

  • @Tejano44 He said he was and also said he had to beat out about a dozen other sailors trying to make it to the stage!

  • Marines and Sailors are friendly rivals , I guess it's a Macho stuff . Semper Fi .

  • Semper Fi! My Dad went ashore with the "Jarheads" all the time and had wished he joined the Marines (like my brother did) instead of the Navy.

  • All branches of the Armed Forces have a job to do and in the end be help each other . Some Marine pilots , truck drivers , cooks ect. wish they were grunts and vice versa and I tell them we all are a team . I Have upmost respect for all . I appreciate the Corpsmen a lot . Most people appreciate the defenders of this Great Nation and they tell me so ever so often . Semer Fi .

  • Brenda would be a great judge on American Idol. I would like to see more mature judges on the show. Ladies like Darlene Love, Carly Simon and Joni Mitchell could really help newcomers today and show them how to use there voices to sing great songs not just the fluff we seem to get today..

  • Awesome post. Thanks a lot

  • Linda Ronstadt did not do this song. It wouldn't suit her anyway. Like sunmanpatoo said, Juice Newton made a big hit out of it by pretty much copying Brenda's style.

  • The only women today that come even close with pure heart and live vocals is Christina Aquilera and Carrie Underwood in my opinion. You will never hear the likes of Patsy and Brenda again. Voice of a life time that can make you laugh or cry.

  • @skipper8257 AMEN shipper You do not hear voices like them anymore but Carrie is good and Chirstina also, but this will never be found again!!!!!!!!

  • @skipper8257 I would add Martina McBride to that list :) Brenda is still #1 in my book!

  • I love when MADMEN used this during the closing credts on one of the episodes :)

  • sunmanpatoo, darling, do you have this same gem of a song only with linda ronstad? urgent reply needed.

  • sorry @aghnifrid i don't have the song

  • @aghnifrid I don't recall Linda R. ever doing the song but Juice Newton did a smashing rendition of it...

  • you put me in doubt, now, sandylovett, let me recall,in the 90's I had a CD with linda Ronstad,it was blue bayou, you're not good,a smashing cover, and yes, break it to me gently, I am 99% sure now.where can we find out, sandylovett?

  • Hey there now You've got me thinking!!! so I googled the album you were talking about (which by the way is another one of my fav female artists) this is what I've come up with. I will continue searching 1. Blue Bayou 2. Heartbeats Accelerating 3. How Do I Make You 4. I've Got A Crush On You 5. It Doesn't Matter Anymore 6. Lo Siento Mi Vida 7. Love Has No Pride 8. Many Rivers To Cross 9. Ooh Baby Baby 10. Tracks Of My Tears 11. Tumbling Dice
  • o.k.sandylovett,me too. have a happy new year!

  • go to google & type in the name of the song & put "download" in quotes next to it, the link will come up

  • Thanks,sunmanpatoo,i'll do that.

  • @aghnifrid Did she sing this?

  • Girls like Brenda, Darlene Love, Tina, and Timi Yuro were the kind of girls who had to deliver in there day. There was no digital enhancements etc, what you got was the real thing and I miss that in todays singers. I don't think many of them could cut it like these girls..

  • Good God!! I love this song.......reminds me of my Husband that passed away and the day they told me....it has been over 7 years and I still love him....sad eh!! But I love this song...and I will never love again either

  • It's a great song, but what I'm really liking now is finally finding out who the band backing her is. The piano, and especially the bass, with that cool slapping sound, has always caught my ear on Patsy Cline's recordings. It seems like the style then was to 'over produce' the sound, in my opinion, with just a bit too much of the backing vocals and echo effect. But with such terrific vocalists and band, they really shine through. Thanks for the info and wonderful clip.

  • I actually think the echo is one of the defining features of that time and works in tandem with their voices to make it that much more distinctive and moving.

  • one of the graetest singer ever

  • Who IS the piano player? Adds such nice sparkle to Miss Brenda's phrasing. Beautiful.
