i to love these old cartoons, i could spend all day saturday watching things like this. thanks for posting this. you are real cool in my book my friend
Underdog, wow, my youth. Along with Bullwinkle, Speed Racer and all the smaller cartoons that made up those shows it truly was a golden age for cartoons. An age free of 247 Nickelodeon crap like Hannah Montana. Our Hanna had a Barbera attached to it. I remember Saturday mornings eating Cap'n Crunch and clued in front of the TV for hours. Honestly, watching that brought a tear to my eye.
I know what you mean, altough I'm a child of the 90's I was into older cartoons; Astro Boy, Speed Racer, the Amazing 3. Kimba, Wacky Races, and Penelope Pitstop.
@23kyp Any decade before the 1990s had the best cartoons. I don't know what the deuce they are doing with cartoons these days.
There's no need to fear, underdog is here. If sweet polly is in trouble then I must not delay...it's up up and away. The first rhyming superhero...at least as far as I can remember.
I watched this way back in my childhood in the 1960s but at that time, although Simon bar Sinister scared me and I loved Underdog and Sweet Polly, I did not then realize theta the creator of this cartoon was totally awake to the Talmudic jew conspiracy, led by Simon and his ilk, to take over the entire earth, which in 2010 is nearly complete. At least I did finally awake to the truth and I married Sweet Polly, too!
I used to catch this on satellite back in the early 90's, one of those HUGE satellite dishes and could pick up WSBK out of Boston. This used to come on afternoons after school. I used to love the winter afternoons with a fire crackling in the fireplace and being half-asleep on the couch in a blanket watching this show. After this was Rocky N Bullwinkle and then Deputy Dawg. Now THAT was a great cartoon line-up..
Man, this brings back memories. I'm old enough to have seen these cartoons when they first came out. And on the only color television set in the neighborhood.
This cartoon is so scientifically inaccurate! Simon should know that water is a compound from grade school, so there are no "atoms of water". Then, how to condense molecules without destroying matter? Finally, if the water were dried up, then the planet would become impossibly hot and cold without water vapor to moderate the temperature. Then again, who ever heard of a dog hero? Is this a mockery of superman or mighty mouse?
Did anyone notice that the colonel looks like Theodore Roosevelt?
so great to see these again...Allen Swift voiced Simon Barsinister, but he was intentionally modeled after Lionel Barrymore...and btw, "Bar sinister" is another word for "bastard"...cartoonists had their in-jokes back in the day too...
but i missed it...how much water was his machine going to suck up?
that is lionel barrymore, drew barrymore's grandfather from what I understand as the mad scientist. My brother told me. I'd watch this everyday at lunch time when I was in preschool, after preschool. They should show reruns of this again!
So how on earth can this be cited in my American Studies class as politically incorrect? The Gophers always prove themselves more capable, more wily, and more practical than the Union soldiers sent to "tame" them....hmmm, I seem to be going to the wrong school.
Omg, underdog was the show, from my childhood.I remember saturday mornings watching cartoons then go outside all day and climb trees, make forts, play kick ball in the streets, ride our bikes and skate boards, and roller skates, kids were out all day instead of the kids today.they watch tv and play finger games all day. Cartoons used to be on just saturdays. What memories
@99realz I am one of those kids, and the real reason of why we don't go out and play baseball in the street is 1) The streets aren't as safe and people don't know all of their neighbors. 2) The internet and "finger games" let us talk to our friends without doing anything.
This was before they called them native Americans I suppose. As stupid as the gophers were though they were still smarter than the dogs. what does that say?

Ah, the evil, mad jew scientist Simon Bar Sinister, Underdog the white superhero dog, and the lovely Sweet Polly Purebred. Nothings changed since my childhood except that I married Sweet Polly. I am still fighting the evil jews who have taken over the world. Prophetic, that cartoon
WRONG! LIONEL BARRYMORE was not the voice of Simon. However the character was based on Lionel Barrymore. Just like Sweet Polly was based on Marilyn Monroe. I know this because the original producers said so on the DVD interviews
@acla9000 There is a book out called "Created and Produced By Total Television Productions" that tells the story of the company that did Underdog and other cartoons. Get it on Amazon.
WOW This takes me back a few years. I used to watch Underdog with my younger bro.He would put a towel on his back collar and pretend to be Underdog.LOL
I have been reading these various comments on Race and I don't see what it has to do with this Cartoon. I am a African-American and "Underdog" was one of my favorite Saturday morning Cartoon. See the cartoon as we did in the 60's as just a show for innocent kids eating Cereal wating on Underdog to capture those various Villians and have a good laugh.
@Disciple127 You are so right, your comment describes me to a tee on a Saturday morning when I was a kid, eating cereal and watching my favorite cartoons. There will never be cartoons like the ones we watched in the 60's (we had the best), too bad we can't go home again, huh?
@Disciple127 I don't think it's Underdog that has people complaining about race. It's most likely that "Go Go Gophers" segment. I mean, the way Native Americans are depicted in that cartoon is rather...stereotypical...
@Disciple127 Thing's were rough for us in the 60's but even worse now in a way.Somebody always trying to read something into something that's not there. They can never just enjoy something that's simple.
Your racism does'nt even deserve a response, but every war since the civil war African Americans have fought and died for this country, so please find something constructive to do!! God help you!!!
Does the skin color matter? What country are you from?
However, this gives me an idea. I should go find a Doug video and complain about how there's too many strangely colored people and not enough white people. I mean, would it have killed them to make Roger white instead of green?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm so tired of you young people who've been conditioned like Pavlov's dog to attack people like me. You've been trained well to not think, and laugh at any notion of White homogeneity. What's wrong with the old days, when Whites made TV shows for other Whites, and had White people in those shows? What have you got against Whites having something for themselves? That's the way all your ancestors were, for thousands of years.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
And, that "Doug" cartoon is a prime example of conditioning. Notice, no one is worried that Africans aren't "diverse". Or Chinese, Japanese, Mexicans, etc, etc, etc...only Whites must include EVERYBODY in EVERYTHING. Why is that?
you're right...and the next time that in a diverse nation like america, if one of the asian, blacks or mexicans cultures make up over 80% of the media, then we'll make them even it out, until then, we'll focus on the one ethnicity that is making up over 80% of media...i forgot...which one is that again?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
It sure as hell isn't the White one. My TV shows non-stop darkies, including plenty of White women with black and brown babies. I don't know what cable you're getting.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The US is not diverse, it's a formerly White country becoming non-White. We were 90% White in 1960, now it's below 66%. There's no such thing as diversity, there's just one group replacing another when one gives up.
last time i checked if a percentage was around 60% its a MAAAJOOORITY. oh...and by the way, if you didn't want a diversity of people coming to america, maybe your great "ole White country" forefathers shouldn't have put in that whole "bring me your poor huddled masses" thing for all to see. what, you think that only applied to europeans?
Yes, it did only apply to Whites. George Washington signed the 1795 Naturalization Act which reserved naturalization for WHITES ONLY. And give us "the wretched refuse of your teeming shores"?? I don't think so! lol
Besides, that was just a dumb poem, written by a JEW, and has nothing to do with the way people have lived for thousands of years, they are racist. That poem is idiotic for anyone trying to have a developed country.
Holy crap is that the voice of Mr. Potter, from It's a Wonderful Life? No way!! Does anyone know what year this show aired?

@Disciple127 , Glad to read your comments, as I loved watching Underdog all those years ago. Take care and God Bless.

I don't know how you can get into ethnic diversity issues from an Underdog cartoon, but people can find a way on youtube I guess.
I like the cartoons of the Rocky and Bullwinkle style. They feature not so much great animation, but hilarious dialogue and character voices.
The South Park cartoons of recent times is of that same spirit, but the social commentary it satires truly is controversial.

Does the skin color matter? What country are you from?
However, this gives me an idea. I should go find a Doug video and complain about how there's too many strangely colored people and not enough white people. I mean, would it have killed them to make Roger white instead of green?
Okay, sarcasm over now.

And, that "Doug" cartoon is a prime example of conditioning. Notice, no one is worried that Africans aren't "diverse". Or Chinese, Japanese, Mexicans, etc, etc, etc...only Whites must include EVERYBODY in EVERYTHING. Why is that?
johnnyharpe 3 years ago
you're right...and the next time that in a diverse nation like america, if one of the asian, blacks or mexicans cultures make up over 80% of the media, then we'll make them even it out, until then, we'll focus on the one ethnicity that is making up over 80% of media...i forgot...which one is that again?

It sure as hell isn't the White one. My TV shows non-stop darkies, including plenty of White women with black and brown babies. I don't know what cable you're getting.

The US is not diverse, it's a formerly White country becoming non-White. We were 90% White in 1960, now it's below 66%. There's no such thing as diversity, there's just one group replacing another when one gives up.
johnnyharpe 2 years ago
last time i checked if a percentage was around 60% its a MAAAJOOORITY. oh...and by the way, if you didn't want a diversity of people coming to america, maybe your great "ole White country" forefathers shouldn't have put in that whole "bring me your poor huddled masses" thing for all to see. what, you think that only applied to europeans?
gr33nl4nt3rn 2 years ago
Yes, it did only apply to Whites. George Washington signed the 1795 Naturalization Act which reserved naturalization for WHITES ONLY. And give us "the wretched refuse of your teeming shores"?? I don't think so! lol
johnnyharpe 2 years ago
Besides, that was just a dumb poem, written by a JEW, and has nothing to do with the way people have lived for thousands of years, they are racist. That poem is idiotic for anyone trying to have a developed country.
