If you think that there are 500 billion barrels of oil in the Bakken formation, you've been reading too many chain e-mails. Currently, the oilfields there yield about 500k bbl daily. There may be another 800 million bbl in oil shale, which he tells me they are working on. More to the point, there's no such thing as "our" oil. The market is international.

If you think that there are 500 billion barrels of oil in the Bakken formation, you've been reading too many chain e-mails. Currently, the oilfields there yield about 500k bbl daily. There may be another 800 million bbl in oil shale, which he tells me they are working on. More to the point, there's no such thing as "our" oil. The market is international.

It depends on who you trust: I put more trust in my father-in-law, who's a Republican, BTW, and the CIA world factbook, more than one AP article from 2006 that's been included in a chain e-mail that has been thoroughly debunked. If there really was that much oil in the Bakken formation, you can bet ExxonMobil would be on it like white on rice.

When President Bush first started talking about relaxing motitotiums on offshore drilling in 2008, gas went down from over $4.00/gal to under $2.00. This will be good for the country. You can go ahead and contact the researchers themselves if you want to know more. The point I want to make is that we understand so little about the balance of the ecosystem and our effects to it. The Valdez impact is over. The town that was affected is back up and running full steam, so are the fisherman. The wild life is back. There is some residual oil UNDERGROUND. Unless you dig it is not noticable.

I want jobs as well. I see more long term job opportunity in clean energy investment and implementation than I do in dirty oil- thousands of gallons of which are bombarding the louisiana shoreline as we speak.
That alone ought to spur us to go green.

@tristramshandy3 The herring are the only fish that have not returned. I am sure there is some enviromental whacko website that lists all kinds of damage that don't exist. If I spill a quart of oil in my driveway they would claim a disaster.
I never ate herring before they left and I don't miss them now. Of course I still see herring available in this store. There must be some somewhere.

@gordonbloyershow yes, those environmental whackos who want clean air, drinkable water, and sustainable living practices- what a bunch of crazies! LOL.
FACT- oil is a dirty fuel with environmental and national security implications.
I don't understand- do you work for BP? Why do you care if we go from dirty fossil fuels to clean alternative energies? I don't understand why this is something you would resist.
Again, do you work for Shell or BP?
