  • Ohhhhh lord. I don't know how anyone can be around Miss Bates.

  • "mother loves the hind of pig best of all, (without a pause) her name is Ms. Augusta Hawkins" I love the implied connection between the two subjects in that statement.

  • Miss Bates is Jackie from Friday Night Dinner XD

  • Jane good for you; "As I'm in the room there is no need to recount the letter..." WOW!! No other version has Jane saying something like that to her Aunt. Can't blame Mr, Knightly for not saying anything; he was trying to spare feelings.

  • that is a fat ass horse

  • @stripyhouse lol i thought so too!

  • this is the best Ms Bates I have seen .....

  • miss bates reminds me of a sheep crossed with an awkwardly faced nicole kidman

  • Emma is the world's first fanshipper

  • **sigh** Mr. Knightley....how perfect you are.

  • Mr Knightly was so sweet and then Miss Bates went and ruined it all!

  • wow Miss bates really doesn't know how to shut up

  • shut up miss bates. SHUT UP!!! X(

  • I think Emma at this point established a different view and respect for Jane. Jane is a chill girl...nothing like her aunt.

  • Can someone give me names of titles like these films? I want to find more! I've seen all the other austen films. I want more! :D

  • @RetroNun Emma, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, Lost in Austen, Jane Eyre - those are my favorites...

  • @babyamom2004 Under the greenwood trees and Middlemarch too

  • @RetroNun Try I capture the castle, north and south, and jane eyre.

  • @RetroNun north and south, jane eyre, wives and daughters, wuthering heights, gone with the wind, the umbrellas of cherbourg

  • @RetroNun Persuasion is really good too.

  • So funny watching this Miss Bates remind me so much of my Aunt.

  • emma = olden day blair warldorf

  • @exohloveful tooootally disagree. I see where you're coming from, but no

  • This version of Jane Fairfax reminds me of Melanie from Gone With the Wind...and Emma does seem to share a few characteristics with Scarlett O'Hara. :)

  • @FieldHockeyStar I thought the same thing...

  • For a witless, nameless, unimportant girl, Harriet is a fine specimen of a forgiving and loving creature.

  • emma is so pompous

  • Whoever plays Jane Fairfax in this series, does not compare to Olivia Williams of 1996 tv adaptation that starred Kate Beckinsale.

  • The actress who plays Miss Bates doesn't seem right for the part. I think she was miscast.

  • Everyone is so down on Miss Bates, and I admit that she is EXTREMELY annoying, but if you think about it, most people would be in her situation. I mean, before Jane came back she was at home for YEARS basically ALONE. Her mother lost her voice shortly after Jane left, so she basically had no company and no one to talk to for over 15 years! Also, she's lost all of her money and lives in this tiny house with barely any room. She's still a good person, and it's not fair that Emma's so mean to her.

  • she must be very desperate to go to miss bates...

  • does anyone know who plays miss bates, because i feel like i recognize her from somewhere...any other roles shes played?

  • @BubblegumPopMusic13 Miss Bates is played by Tamsin Greig, who plays Fran Katzenjammer on the comedy series Black Books. :)

  • @elisonsidney i was thinking the same thing! but only at tiny moments because within the next second she wont look like nicole at all

  • I love this version of Emma!! thank you so much

  • Jane is pretty :)

  • "I wonder if Miss Bates is at home?" She must have been really desperate.

  • i love how Mr. Knightley sees Harriet and doesn't say the news of Mr. Elton. he is so kind! and then when he gives her his handkerchief!!

  • @rbain007 he is a true gentleman :)

  • omg, to shut Harriet up she went by Miss Bates? Great idea Emma

  • @sanitythroughmadness must have been desperate!

  • Does anyone else think that the actress that portrays Harriet can sometimes look like Nicole Kidman? Great adaptation! :)

  • @elisonsidney I thought Harriet looked like Bridget Fonda. Wonderful adaptation :)

  • Wow, Jane is beautiful! She has such a lovely, heart-shaped face. Very delicate.

  • This Jane is, I think, more true to the original character (beautiful and reserved). I like this one better than the Jane in the movie version.

  • Jane is portrayed so different in the book though! at least in the introduction of her, she is more calm and reserved, more in control! But I love this Emma, she is just the impersonation of the book character! :)

  • What I find interesting is how society has changed its views of parentage. Harriet Smith's social stigma is the fact she's a bastard. These days, with baby-daddies, and baby-mammas, nobody seems to care any more how a child gets born

  • I seriously gotta read this. I didnt like it before, because I saw trailers of Gwyneth and kate Beckinsale, but i Like this actress a lot.

  • love the bit where knightley comes in all excited about news for emma then stops awkwardly when he sees harriet! Love him!

  • Knightley's kerchief save = februarysong's heart melts.

  • Mr. Rivers from Fingersmith! :D 7:50

  • Does anyone know who plays Mr. Dickson? He looks very familiar.

  • who's the actress that portray's miss Fairfax?

  • Laura Pyper

  • thanks!

  • I like this Harriet better than 1996...that one was way too stupid and silly. This one is more simply sweet, a worthy friend for Emma.

  • Ummm...time to shut up now, Miss Bates.

  • Truly.

  • LOL to Knightley's facial expressions around 8:50 after Emma says "That is hardly news."

  • Jane looks miserable but tries hard not to say it. I haven't read the book yet (SHAME ON ME! WAH! T-T) so why is Jane Fairfax so uneasy? I've seen the 1996 Emma but that Jane Fairfax was so different...

  • @MusicalMaiden92 She's just very humble and modest....can't stand that her aunt rambles on about her...especially with her in the rooom

  • I would feel exactly the same way if my mum goes on and on about me when I am clearly in the same space!

  • I can't help but see Fran from Black Books everytime I see Miss Bates...

  • Poor Jane...

  • Okay, Miss Bates is officially annoying now. :^)

  • Why isn't there snow on the ground?

  • @brist0lgirl I'm not British, but I am not under the delusion that snow stays all winter long....even here in Illinois we have green Christmases once in a while and not a few thaws most winters....

  • @brist0lgirl also, later on in this clip we see that time has passed and it is now spring....flowers in the woods, etc.

  • because snow rarely stays on the ground for any length of time in England. This winter seems to be an exception.

  • Thank you so much ! <3 <3 <3 <3 <3
